The clarinet player tho, like...
"Here, let me pop into your band for a sec. Wait this needs a painting"
Yessss
"and then lemme SHATTER YOUR EARDRUMS"
i didn t realised he was there until the 5 th time i looked at the video XD
Agreed
i think he was drunk look where he starts 0:09
Pretty sure this is playing at a shady nightclub somewhere in Gotham right about now.
youtube is a dumb bitch and won't let me like your comment so here i am commenting instead
Right..took forever to like.. Kingpin is got this locked

This entire channel is half a jazz band with a costume fetish and a revolving door of singers.
And I am HERE FOR IT.
A.M. Right on !
For sure.
Amen to that!
And... I'm subbing, you sold me
agreed. oh and btw, my thumbs up just rolled you to an even 1k. Hope you are well out there, A.M.
The dude on the clarinet is honesty such a mood
Kris Watson what. I-
What.
Why-
Stop.
@Kris Watson what?
What does that mean?
This song really translates well into this kind of cover.
Same thing I was thinking but didn't know how to word it♥
🤠🤠🤠
I find the chorus very weak, especialy compared with the original
@@t1bbe boooo
Yes
The guy in the back putting up paintings is clearly having the best time out of everyone in this video
Maybe but drummer looks be diggin it to.
She was definitely the right person for this cover. I can't be sure it's not just that my poor audio equipment that can't take how loud I want to listen to this at, but she's got that kind of raspiness in her vocals that just hits it perfect.
Thats how her voice is. I remember seeing her on American Idol and she killed it, her voice is so cool
Ear phones.
@@seldonwright4345 I have a few sets. They are even more inadequate for the task, sadly.
Volume really agrees with Joey, this is massively better turned up to 11.
@@veleriphon You need better headphones.
My dad died recently this was one of his favorite songs he was 71 years old and turned me on to this band thanks dad I miss you
I'm sorry. What a beautiful way to remember.
For some strange reason, I can't stop watching this. Her voice is extremely captivating.
Random Dude I’m on auto replay and listen over and over!
@@johnrokosky are you the reason for strict dress code?
...and she's cuter than a bug!
Check out all her other PMJ performances and look up Joey Cook....she was on American Idol and has brilliant music of her own. Awesome woman. Ive had this song on repeat since finding PMJ last week. The "virus" quarantine and shut down allowed me to find this amazing channel...so many awesome performances!
Her voice is indeed captivating, but it's the whole package. She is so adorable and quirky. And singing that song, barefoot in that dress? Fuggitaboutit.
[Borderlands intensifies]
DiggingUpGraves love me some borderlands
DiggingUpGraves wait was this really in borderlands? was it the first one, cuz thats the only one i didnt play
I believe it was the intro song for the first game.
OMG! i would have never imagined to hear THIS awesome song here :D i'm happy as fuck :3
the joy of hearing this song is like finding a pearl in the first game.
This is one of those rare covers where I like it as much as the original. Both versions are perfect in their own way.
The best covers make the song their own with a different style.
@Kris Watson w h a t ?
Yes I fart on my face would be just fine right now I don’t even dare me in the morning!
I even like it better than the original!
@@mymo_on4722 lo
This is amazing. Can you just imagine a time traveler opening a swing jazz club with modern music?
Like that movie they made where the Beatles never existed and a dude takes on showing what the world missed in his eyes? That would be awesome.
They did something like that in Bioshock Infinite
I'm watching this eyeball deep in the COVID 19 isolation while bored AF!! And that is an amazing idea you got there, Lester T. Jester!! 💜💜💜
Did you ever watch The Moderns? There is a brief second or two when in a Jazz Club in Paris the movie switches from black and white to color, and from a jazz trio to a punk band. Then it goes back to the 1930s. You almost think you imagined it.
To all of you in the comments criticizing the vibe of the video and the movements of the singer..... Have you ever seen a Cage the Elephant performance? Cause you're missing out
I literally scrolled down to comment on how Matt Shultz her movements were.
Literally nobody is doing that?
Creature Of Havoc well i mean the comment was two years ago. the comments are gonna be different for you than they were two years ago
I saw them in concert (cage the elephant, not pmjb) and he walked to the grass section (it was an outside amphitheater) and he said "bring me to the beer!" And people carried him to the beer stand, and everyone in the back flipped!! It was so fun!
Joe Cocker
She has the perfect voice for this song. Great cover.
Rebelwheels NYC Dammit, two likes too many
Rebelwheels NYC I agree fantastic cover
perfect style too
Yea she sounds like Matt Schultz. Makes sense her voice is good for this song.
the song works perfectly in this style woah
and her movements are just like matt shultz’s i love that
Man I thought the lyrics in the original had an impact but this cover really brings them to a whole other level of real.
Kinda Mack the Knife 🔪!!
gosh. her voice is wicked.
So wicked it ain't got no rest?
@thedog556 I mean I love Amy to fucking death but even she was trying to emulate her favorites
@thedog556 I've seen enough of her videos to conclude that's kust how she sings naturally and she's not trying to be anybody.
0:08 couch man emerging from his hibernation
Cage the Elephant needs to cover more jazz songs
I see what you did there.
Don't know why but I feel like she could do a killer Harley Quinn voiceover.
holy shit yeah
Yes! But can she act?
@@rowynnecrowley1689 maybe voice act.
What about Jax, too? She did the Teenage Dirtbag cover
And Addie Hamilton (Heart of Glass)?
It the subtle vocal fry
Her voice isn't just amazing.. it's much more than that!
БΞΛТ ТłMΞ Not the best voice out there, but it has a ton of personality
Like Christopher Walken meets Billie Holiday.
Flarebear
I know, but it is special on its own way
Exactly my thoughts! Hints of Christopher Walken in there :P
Even though
I wish I coULD
Say what you want about her voice, but there's no denying that it's perfect for this style of music and just sounds right.
that's part of the PMJ style. they have so many GREAT vocalists, they can pick and choose for each song
Matthew E I love it...😎
Yes!
Nope.
It is so great and not Swift'
The clarinet player was so entertaining, dude stole the show nearly.
Clarinet player be like “hmmm something’s missing”
Is he trying to be the next "Tambourne " guy? LOL
He jazzed it up
I was looking for a comment on the clarinet player
Borderlands for the win!
I love watching the clarinetist in the background doing random stuff when he's not playing 😂😂
That woman has the very best jazz hands ever and her voice is perfection.
the singer has great expression honestly it really feels like she's telling you a story she's really into
it's nice that they were able to get Heisenberg to play the drums on this song
lol
He... is the one who drums
I love how they even copy the manerisms of Matt Shultz.
Thank you for saying that, I'm scrolling thru comments like, did anyone else see this!
It was perfect Shultz jitters!
@@blackhairbitch6972 ???
Her voice is so crispy and wicked and perfect for this song!!! but tbh that clainet player stole the the show😂
The clarinet player just doing stuff when he's not playing cracks me up.
Lol I love how he hung the painting up in the middle of the song 🤣
I saw it and was like *tf is bro doin* 💀
this makes me want a steampunk re-make of borderlands
borderlandsxbioshock
True
Chris The Viola Player This isn’t steampunk though. This is like 1940s style.
@@wuh-huw9950 yeah but it's the same kind of music you would hear in something steampunky
@@wuh-huw9950 I think you're confusing the jazz age with the big band era which stemmed from the jazz age which ended in 1929, jazz has still been around just not as hugely as it was post WW1 up til 1929, hope this helps clear things up a bit💜
PMJ Is one of the greatest contributions to art in the 21st century.
The clarinet player stealing the hat off the cello, and then proceeding to steal a bunch of stuff between chords made this for me.
Of course she nails the song. Everyone has already said that, but the thing that put this over the top for was her stage presence. If you've ever watched CTE perform this song, she absolutely nails the feel that Matt Schultz has while still making it seem appropriate for the "era". Even her look.
I've just been watching the clarinet player the whole time
Liquid Bromide what is he doing? It’s like a goofy act taking attention from the singer and his clarinet playing.
and then toward the end hes straight up like "lemme put up this painting"
It's a joke. Usually, PMJ videos have a background character doing something fun. Like check out their cover of nsync's bye bye bye and try to focus on anything other than the tambourine guy for more than a few seconds. It's a running gag. And it's funny as all heck.
That and her Cute Dress! Such a great song for them to cover!!
Joey Cook was born for this music style

She's got the singing story telling talents.
Nice. ..!
I love your channel as well as the concept of playing modern songs in a vintage style.
HOWEVER, I CHALLENGE YOU GUYS TO DO THE OPPOSITE:
Perform a '2017 version' of a 40's hit song.
If I understood your comment correctly, I think it deserves an 'LOL'...
Matt Apparently you're living under a rock (where they still play 'What A Wonderful World' or 'Can't Help Falling In Love'...), Cause if you turn on a radio one of these days you'll hear the kind of shit they call music in modern times...
I'm pretty sure what Matthew meant was that most of the songs that were popular in the 1940's were covers of older songs.
Matthew Eric was I wrong?
Also, why did you delete your comment?
WOW...
A. Writing 'an' wasn't wrong since I was using 'lol' as a noun (El-Oh-El).
B. I'm sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean to talk down...
C. The term 'Pop Music' can refer to one of two genres. It either means popular music in general, or a specific style of music that was popular in the 50's and 60's.
D. Popular music has most certainly changed beyond recognition. (If you think otherwise, reread my previous comment.)
E. Pop Music (which in the 50's and 60's was also 'Popular Music'), did not change, however, it is no longer popular and is completely irrelevant.
F. Never have I mentioned the word 'pop'... All I said was that the 'hits' of the 40's are radically different than those of the 2010's
And also, all the incoherent rambling (about copyright/royalties/licensing) is completely irrelevant to this conversation...
This idea makes no sense. What makes PMJ great is their ability to take a simple pop song and make it musically complex. It's not a challenge to dumb down music.
gives me both bioshock and borderlands vibes all at the same time
My new favorite song. Absolutely perfect vocals, and great music behind. Postmodern Jukebox is great, as are the speakeasy three, the swing ninjas, the speakeasy swing band and so many more electro-swing bands. Plus, Joey Cook "emotes" perfectly, I like the attitude she projects.
Her sassy idgaf attitude makes this so cool

Could you possibly do 'My Shot' from Hamilton? I heard a mini cover someone did vintage style and I would love to hear a full version.
Kate Davis and Aubrey Logan together please! Bass&Trombone (and the one and only Tambourine guy, why not?)
Currently a bestseller on Amazon as well. Congrats!
PostmodernJukebox I love you Joey,
Getting some Prohibition era vibes from this and I love it lol
Seriously, the genre matches this song REALLY well :)
Clicked on this out of sheer curiosity and my jaw almost instantly dropped. I wasn't expecting this to be this good.
A new PMJ video with Jacob in it is my favourite PMJ video.
This might be the most fitting genre change you've done. Joey sounds so good in this and the song fits so well, awesome as always guys.
The clarinet is just spot on for this song!
Clap, clap, clap, clap...what? Just spreading the clap. Great job!
Joey Cook!!!
I guess you could say this cover was Legendary. Scott looked Handsome as always. Also, the singer sounds like an Angel. I'm so glad I had the Opportunity to see this.
I see what you did there :D
The only flaw here is 2 of those references were only introduced in BL2... Nice attempt anyways.
She got a voice like a SIREN making me going all PSYCHO for her.
I can totally see Lucifer Morningstar playing this at Lux.
Atraxus Wraithe would be great!!
I think he was listening to this song in the pilot
he would do that 100%
New season lots of music
Right?
FANTASTIC PERFORMACE ALL AROUND!!!! I've always heard the expression "No rest for the wicked". This song is actually contemporary, but it sounds like it was written in the 1920's. Joey Cook really knows how to deliver it as if Clara Bow, the 1920's "It Girl", was singing it. The band is also incredible.
My friend today said she didn't like this one because her voice was "nasally" so I had to patiently explain it was a STYLE. Amazing cover.
Welcome again to PMJ, my dear Joey Cook!
I feel like I'm back in time back to those days I wish we could
You know, I gotta respect Mr. Clarinet; he doesn't let a spontaneous gig get in the way of his previously scheduled redecorating, but neither does he half-heart his performance. Who knew it was possible to give 100% to two different things at the same time? xD srsly tho I
Do Feel Good Inc! (Or any Gorrilaz song, really)
I add Melancholy Hill to that.
Zane Peavy Clint Eastwood?
Zane Peavy OMG Every Planet We Reach Is Dead would be PERFECT for this channel. The paino solo at the end would be more at the frog of the mix. Oh please please please let them do that one! Also El manana
you're lucky! one of their singers did a cover of Clint Eastwood in this style in her channel

JOEY COOK HAS MAGNIFICENT PIPES. YOU GO GIRL!
"Cou-ywl-d"
I love it.
THAT'S MY FRIEND, JOEY! ❤
Joey Cook and sweet borderlands nostalgia, this is perfect!
This is fantastic! Though her fidgeting has that "been in high heels half an hour too long and now dealing with blisters" thing. Which is entirely appropriate.
It's intentional. Watch the official video of the original version of the song and you will see why she is moving like that.
The clarinetist is a hoot with his antics.
Go on with it,make it yours. Love It!!!
This arrangement makes it seem like this is the original version, copied from an obscure Louis Armstrong recording. The PMJ covers are always good, but once in a while they far surpass the originals.
Just listened to the Cage the Elephant version and can't believe how much more I liked Joey Cook's.😎
This is in my top 3 favorite PMJ songs. Gotta come here every so often to watch this and just remember how much I love it. Thanks folks.
Exceptional in its simplicity. Great song and vibes.
Sweet ... well done Joey!
NO WAY! i love you, guys! that song is amazing!!
WHOA. This whole time I thought she was wearing really gaudy glasses. That’s GLITTER! 🤣
Thanx. Ah 2 wuz mystified. But it doesn't matter much. What a voice of true grit. Good God almighty! That is some MIGHT.
Love her stage presence.
I was walking down the street
When out the corner of my eye
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me
She said, I've never seen a man
Who looks so all alone
Uh, could you use a little company?
If you pay the right price
Your evening will be nice
And you can go and send me on my way
I said, "You're such a sweet young thing
Why'd you do this to yourself?"
She looked at me and this is what she said
"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know I can't slow down
I can't hold back
Though you know
I wish I could
Oh, no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good"
Not even 15 minutes later
I'm still walking down the street
When I saw the shadow of a man creep out of sight
And then he swept up from behind
He put a gun up to my head
He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight
He said, "Give me all you've got
I want your money not your life
But if you try to make a move, I won't think twice"
I told him, "You can have my cash
But first you know I got to ask
What made you want to live this kind of life?"
He said, "There ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know I can't slow down
I can't hold back
Though you know, I wish I could
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good"
Yeah
You know it
He was a-
You know it
He was a-
Well, now a couple hours passed
And I was sitting at my house
The day was winding down and coming to an end
And so I turned on the TV
And flipped it over to the news
And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend
I saw a preacher man in cuffs
He'd taken money from the church
He'd stuffed his bank account with righteous dollar bills
But even still I can't say much
Because I know we're all the same
Oh yes, we all seek out to satisfy those thrills
You know there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
We got bills to pay
We got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know we can't slow down
We can't hold back, though you know, we wish we could
Oh no, there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good
This is one of my favorite PMJ covers! Love Joey Cook singing in this style.
Joey cook is fantastic and makes this song hers. I can not imagine another one singing this song. After seeing this video about twenty times I notice the guy with the clarinet, Joey cook catches my attention every time, amazing voice, and the way she moves... simply perfect.

This is just a great, fun, wonderful performance. Joey, you are just perfection here. This is also a great example of how Scott's choice of arrangements often manages to unlock the true essence of a song, and let the brilliance of the writing shine. This is why we love PMJ!
