Delightful, gentle video, thank you. I lived in Cerne Abbas in the 1960’s as a little boy and loved it so much. Your walk brought back many memories for me of a happy, idyllic time when the world was a slower, kinder place than it is now. God bless you.
Thank you Dave, another great walk, fantastic scenery & information. Cerne Abbas has a connection to me as my 3xG Grandfather Samuel Hooper died at the Poor Union there in June 1860 from Paralysis (Stroke). He was a Sawyer by trade and a bit of a character, lived at Pulham from the 1830s, but had moved about from Puckington & Yeovil in Som, through Castleton, Sherborne, Buckland Newton & Wooton Glanville.
I enjoyed memories of CERNE abbas, used to play poostix wlv Spencer Churchill wen he stayed wiv the Digby's in summer hols, I lived in cuckoo cottage next to the pond by cemetery, my grandparents lived by. The pub, then we all moved to nethercerne, the mid 50s were very 😊 for me, Janet Parmenter who lived with aunt&uncle Harris who i called mummy&daddy, such fond memories, and there all here 😘
Wow.. what lovely memories for you Janet. It is such a charming place. I hope to do some more walks in Dorset during 2021....when the restrictions on travel are relaxed.
@@DaveFord oh brill, wen u do go up playing field opposite school to river at top go 👉 and you will find mill cottage keep going then you be at Digby's home etc, a great shortcut ☺.
Hi Dave, Just back from the Cerne Abbas walk. It was a lovely day for it although a bit muddy underfoot at times. We did a very similar walk last year walking as far as Minterne Magna but was happy to do a slightly shorter walk today as I’m waiting for a knee replacement. Tess (our Springer spaniel) loved the walk as most of it was off the lead with plenty pheasants to chase. Returning to Cerne Abbas we popped in the village shop as we were a bit late for the pub. What an array of local beers! I just had to bring a few home. Currently sipping Watercress Warrior from the Cerne Abbas brewery - the shop told me it was their best seller. So if anyone is doing this walk, don’t miss the local shop for cheese, beer and anything else you could ask for. Thanks again for the inspiration Dave. John, Sally and Tess.
Glad you had a great walk. It is a challenge avoiding mud at the moment! I will have to make a visit to that village shop - purely for research purposes only!
New follower here. Love your videos. Some fantastic walking routes to check out. This is a very familiar walk for myself though as my home was in the video. I live in one of the thatched cottages you passed in Upcerne. What a wonderful part of the world Cerne Abbas is.
Thank you & indeed welcome to the channel! What a lovely part of Dorset you live in. I hope that you enjoy the future videos in the series. Thanks for watching.
Wonderful walk Dave & Logan! Cerne Abbas had some really lovely old buildings- inns & hotels, & the grain store. Beautiful pastoral land all throughout. Loved Up Cerne & all of the charming thatched cottages. They were absolutely gorgeous! Thanks again for so much history & information of the area!😁👍
@@DaveFord he certainly was! I've seen pictures before, but this is the 1st time I think I've seen video w/ any of you walking up so close to it! Some rather incredible ancient history there, thats for sure!
A very informative and enjoyable video yet again the detail of the information is superb the videos just keep getting better i do enjoy the longer videos with all the history of the area the weather was just right a really good day to do a walk
Very nice Dave. I'm enjoying these from Vancouver Is. Canada where we too have some impressive scenery, albeit quite different from Sussex/Hampshire. The fields and hills are superb but I also very much enjoy the visits to the village churches. Please give Logan a pat for me.
Thanks Robert. Yes, there is always that fine line between having the sun in front of the camera but also keeping the shadow of the microphone /camera out! My camera doesn't have a front screen which doesn't help either! Hopefully I have gained a little more experience over time & am much more aware of the issue now. Thank you for watching.
Have done a few walks that include chalk figures so will be adding this to the list shortly, thanks for another great video with informative commentary. 😊
Thank you for the history lesson. I really enjoyed walking with you and your beautiful Whippet Logan. Will look for more of your videos. I know ancient Scotland inside and out but not England as well as I intend to know it. I know the ancient English monarchs really well but not the countryside. Elizabeth I is my favorite along with Harold II Godwinson. And of course there is King Alfred. Do you have any favorite history books on England? Also, do you know any families by the name of Isles, Ruthven/Ruffin, or Quertermous? I am American with British ancestors. Can I answer any questions you may have about our beautiful country? I grew up in Southern California along the ocean near Malibu and Santa Monica but moved to Idaho 1 1/2 yrs ago. I've done a lot of traveling in the states and in Western Europe including the British Isles. Best wishes.😊
Thank you Sandra. I d not know any families that you have mentioned. I often refer to books written by Arthur Mee in his "The King's England" series (especially the one on Dorset) published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1939 (reprinted 1951). I hope that you get to enjoy future videos on the channel. Thanks for watching.
I don’t believe I’ve ever been to Cerne Abbas. What a picturesque village it is and so much history. We will make it our destination one day in the summer. Lovely views from that hill as well. I’ve seen many pictures of the Cerne Giant and the only story I know about it is.. ..... If a married woman was having problems conceiving a child, she would have to go to the giant and sit on a certain part of his anatomy. This was supposed to help. You probably knew that.
Thoroughly enjoyed "walking" with you. Perhaps you might like to "walk" with us. Us being myself, my wife Hazel and our dogs Pepper and her daughter Peanut. You can watch us, and hopefully subscribe here...her RUclips name is Madam Pango.
Thank you Dave and Logan. Lovely to join you on another fab walk in my fav county of Dorset
Thank you Jerry. :)
Thank you for videoing and narrating this and uploading it for me.
Thank you Joanne. :)

Thanks Dave. We are lucky to have such a variety of landscapes & buildings in the South of England for sure.
Very well done. I got a nice intimate feel for the area. I did find the camera shadow slightly distracting but that was minimal. Thanks.

Thank you Ann. A walk for the Summer months - I reckon it gets a bit "slippy" on those narrow chalk paths on the hill during the Winter!

A very pretty village with a choice of pubs....when they are open again!
Great video , lots of good information. I’m going to walk the Cerne Vally way next month so it’s great to get a bit of insight 👍
Thank you Don. It will look great in April.
Great video Dave. I've just been to Cerne Abbas too 😀 You went much further afield than we did. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Rob. There are some great views there, that is for sure. Lovely part of Dorset.
