Not sure how some of these low selling radios are "most popular". Oh wait it is a commercial trying to get commision. Waste of time and a subscription.
I bought that 2980R about 3 years ago from DX engineering and I installed it in my truck soon after it arrived. For that price 80 watts is alot of power. Best 2-meter only rig out there IMO.
Love the 2980R. The receiver is superb, I used it a bit for joining some simplex nets and it's streets ahead of all the other Yaesu dual band mobiles. Ears for days. Gets screaming hot very quickly in a full power ragchew, even at 25W extended usage they get uncomfortably hot. With a little cooling air though it'll run 25W continuously, nice clean Tx and no PLL horrors on keyup. If it had the Yaesu data jack on it then it'd be my favourite 2m FM rig ever, and if the scan speed wasn't so horrid it'd be the best 2m rig ever.
This is what happens in the States when they change your clocks back an hour, were up thinking about buying Radios when the sun comes up, great video, tnx Man!
I've got the G90 and it's a quite decent HF radio. Made a contact on 10m from Washington state to Michigan on the east coast last week, about 2700 mi/4345 km. But it could use an AM broadcast filter which I've added inline to the antenna. With so many big AM broadcast stations out there it's kind of a mystery to me why they didn't add a couple bucks worth of caps and core windings to the board?🤔
@timothysampson49944: Just wondering, what made you choose the "qt60" instead of the "qt40" or the "qt80"? Do you have it set up as a base station or a mobile? What are you using for an antenna(s). Thanks in advance & 73s, Norman.
Yaesu FT-2980R Had that one for years. Nice mobile. And BAOFENG UV-5G. Bought a 6 pack about the same time. Comes in handy to just hand the kids a radio and off they go.
I bought an AT-5888UV several years ago when I needed a Part 90 (Commercial) approved mobile radio. (Yes, I have that license, too.) Given its low price, I wasn't expecting much from it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a good budget rig.
Thanks for the video Hayden! Unfortunately we can't seem to get radios shipped here to zl from nearly anywhere anymore due to some numptys messing with emergency services using a baofeng a few years ago.
@@HamRadioDX Yep, you need a special license to import, and have to report monthly even if you haven't brought anything in. Due to the hassle, most places like Aliexpress, banggood, and Amazon won't even show ham radios or show "this item isn't available in your country" on the sites. There is one guy that I'm aware of that brings in (a very limited range) of handhelds, puts the price up 200+% and sells them locally. He's currently selling a Quansheng for $95 and a UV5-r for $87. Forget about finding a Yeasu radio new here at all. It's very depressing.
@@HamRadioDX I'm sure there are some get get through, but they are very strict. There's an icom dealer, but they are online only. I actually had a listing removed from Trademe (our ebay) for an Allstar Node because they thought I needed a license to sell that even though it was a kit. I started looking for a new rig as my G90 is having some issues, and have been looking towards Australia. Unfortunately it seems StrictlyHam is going out, and I couldn't find many other shops there that say they ship here. I'm lucky in that I'm American so I just wait till I go back home, but it also means no warranty or anything like that. There are a few other retailers in the US that will ship here, but the shipping is crazy high and then they toss on their own duty tax. I don't know what others do for their rigs, but finding a handheld here is either get it from the one guy that imports them, or find a way to have a buddy overseas send it and hope it makes it through I guess. Trademe even removes listings for people trying to sell their handhelds here so it's pretty much facebook I guess (I don't use facebook personaly) or within the clubs.
@@Dusty_Ham I have bought my two UV-K5(8) for about 25$ total and I'm honestly shocked by what happened in your country. Hope it can get better some day.
Radioddity qt80 aka anytone 6666 pro is an amazing radio. It does do cw. U can use the mic as a keyer or easily adapt a keyer. Also covers 21-30 quite well. Lots of contacts on 10-11-12-and even 15m on it
Thank you for this great video Haydn, these can take a lot of time with all of the research. I am pretty sure this is the first review like this that I have seen that leads off with a Yaesu. Glad to see that.
You need to get your hands on the vgc-n76, or radioddity ga-5wb, or btech uv-pro hands down best ht for value now having KISS support and aprs gps built in
Does anyone make a ham radio that doesnt look like it has to be fitted into a truck? Do they make them that style that just plug into a mains outlet for sitting on a desk?
You are describing a BASE STATION radio. Hayden's list is for hand held or mobile radio. See Yaesu FTdx101D as an example of a mains powered base station radio fir desk use.
To all the negative comments...He clearly states MOST POPULAR ON AMAZON. Meaning these were the ones with highest sales and review ratings on that platform. As for it being a commercial to make money, why would he not use an affiliate link? It cost the buyer no more money and gains him a little bit of commission to be able to buy more equipment to review.
Hayden your videos are always very informative. Thanks! I have both the Quansheng UV-K5 and K6 and they're awesome. I love that you can modify them, tho I don't have the modification skills to solder boards and such. I'm thinking of retiring my Baofeng BF-F8HP (8 watt hand held, it's about 10 years old) for a set of those Talkpods, or maybe the Anytone...gotta watch the videos. :) Would love your input.
Hey mate, OK on the Baofeng BF-F8HP. I've never owned one of those. The Talkpods are fine - the MAX version is the spectrally compliant one and does 8W. I found they had decent audio and airband AM reception was pretty decent for the price - with a few little niggly issues. Check out my review on it, you can search Talkpod on my channel to find them.
Im using the QT 80 in my ute just the right size even with that heat sink , Cyan is a great color in the dark, you can also go from channel mode to VFO . Using it in conjunction with the CBL 561 mobile antenna . It does have CW mode but no key jack

Great resource list of radios. Thanks for the effort. Black Friday is coming up in the USA, so I expect even more and better sales coming soon.
Except just about all of them are less expensive if you order from a dedicated ham radio source instead of scamazon..

Nice video mate! Wich one will u consider to by for yourself, take in consideration long range distances, please.
I have 4 of those on the list.
I really like the FT-4x, but Yaesu never bothered with a USB charging port, so it would not be much good in a SHTF situation of any length.
Thank You Hayden!
Thanks Freddie Mac!
What does the TD H3 have over the Quangsheng K6?
You should check out the President Washington radio. You can use it as a repeater on 10 meters. 😮
I've seen the President line... I used to have an old President HR2510... but I'm not familiar with the Washington - I'll check it out!

The TIDRadio H3 does not transmit on the 220 band. Only 2m/70cm.

Why as an Australian do you make these videos specifically for the U.S?
54% of my audience is from the US. In addition, Amazon AU has about 5% of what Amazon US has..

$105 at HRO. All Yaesu radios are significantly cheaper on HRO. FT5DR is $150 cheaper.
