    Au revoir, dear Maestro -- the musical world will miss you! Thank you so much for all the delight and deep joy you spread through your work. I hope you're playing, chatting and laughing with all the other wonderful artists who have undoubtedly welcomed you warmly into the Great Beyond ... R.I.P....

    It's the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Harnoncourt loved to work with them.
    They are very special, one of the best orchestras ever.

      +TheMbader I totally agree with you - marvellous bunch of young musicians, and they and Harnoncourt made a terrific team! So sorry to hear of his death today...

    09:40 - 10:18 These lines are so important, for they relativise our common notions about music. Harnoncourt sees the influence of tradition, current fashion, habits etc. on our understanding of new things, showing consequently how that ,new, doesn't have the power we usually think it has, it's always context dependent.

    He was the last conductor I expected to hear make his points to the orchestra through images. Delightful surprise.

    For me (this is not meant to be absolute) their recordings of the Beethoven Symphonies are the best, because they are maybe the closest to what Beethoven intended them to sound. And just let me state this: it does fit those symphonies greatly. check out their recordings.

    No podríamos decir que las ideas del maestro Nikolaus no funcionaban para él mismo,para los músicos baio su dirección y para su búsqueda pero, ante semejante crítica al trabajo de Karajan y la rutina, no puedo evitar pensar que la belleza, la grandeza artística puede llegar no sólo por medios diversos, sino incluso, contrarios. Es evidente que esa "rutina" que tanto despreciaba Harnoncourt,le funcionó al maestro Karajan. Ambos ,gigantes de la dirección.

    If you aren't handicapped at your hands, there is no reason not to use baton for clear signs and signals to help musicians to get perfection you want.

    • @aeroplano111
      @aeroplano111 9 лет назад +4

      pega17pl It's certainly personal opinion, but nevertheless, I disagree with you. Without the baton, expression can be maximized, and the tiniest of nuances shown. The stick is hindering, quite frankly.

    • @pega17pl
      @pega17pl 9 лет назад +1

      Kyle Aufderhar Strange because baton was introduced to avoid unclear signs and signals.

    • @aeroplano111
      @aeroplano111 9 лет назад +7

      pega17pl The matter of clarity really falls to the conductor. Some are very clear without the baton (Boulez) and some are very unclear with it; and vice versa.

      Das kommt doch ganz auf den Dirigenten an ... Karajan hätte keinen Taktstock gebraucht, der sah ja eher aus, wie eine rückwärts fliegende Fledermaus, wenn er dirigierte, später zumindest, bei Kleiber zum Beispiel wäre aber ohne den Taktstock einiges gar nicht entstanden, man muss nur seine sehr feinen BEwegungen damit sehen. Und Thielemann bräuchte auch keinen, so wie der dirigiert ...

    • @pega17pl
      @pega17pl 7 лет назад +1

      +Johann Schneider
      Es sind die Musiker der hinteren Reihen, die "keinen Taktstock" als Beleidigung seitens des Dirigenten empfinden.
