I remember being at a bar watching Notre dame vs Purdue and this was on the TV next to me and out of the corner of my eye I kept seeing this kid I never heard of Making all types of plays
Thanks for posting this. It reminded me how close the game was and how fast that Florida defense is. If you watch the games against Ole Miss or Miss State, JM is running circles around them.
wow what a year that was. Didn't realize that was the year with Williams, Michael AND Melina at running back. And not to mention, the 2 offensive tackles that were both first round picks in the NFL draft.
I’m from Tyler, Tx and I remember watching this game on tv and hearing his name and thinking wtf I know this guys family. I call my sister and ask her does Paul his dad have a son that plays QB at Texas A&M. Johnny came out of nowhere to be what he was back then.
I agree. It's really too early to start talking about him and the NFL. We need to see how 2013 plays out and we'll have an idea if this kid really has it or not.
There are people calling him a top 10 lock but I don't see it right now. There's no recogonition of blitzes, no reading through progressions, it's just a simplified do what the coach tells him offense and wing it. So many easy yards at times. I know he was a redshirt freshman but we need to see something besides just running in circles trying to be more athletic than the defense. Very raw.
Good adjustments by Florida. They really shut him down late. He's green here, and progressed as the season went along. Curious to see how he'll respond after losing a few key players.
He did great in my opinion. I mean just think if all these youtube critics tried to play against that defense their first year in not only College, but the S.E.C LOL
The way Johnny runs reminded me of Mike Vick back at VT, JF is 10 times the passer Vick was in college but they both move around in the pocket almost like all american tailbacks. very fun to watch
JF is a better passer much more accurate particularly in college. The Texas A&M offense doesn't require you to truly read a defense, which is why most spread offense QB struggle in the NFL. I will admit Vick would've been a super beast had he played for school like Oregon who runs a lot from the spread, but he wasn't the most accurate guy in the pocket.
+Nicky_Projectz ahhh idk...I'm watching Vick games now. his accuracy looks way better than Johnnys..but he making some bad throws ! it's on point with velocity. but a lot of staring down receivers
SO true and i don't like how every one has this misconception that Manziel has a big time arm either it's Avarage at best he also lacks basic fundimantals that nfl qbs have from nfl wither it's the way he holds the ball on drop back throws he yet to be asked to win a game from the pocket i know every going to say Russell Wilson and RG3 both those guys running is a plus the there best skill set passing the ball is there best skill set unlike Manziel.
Just remember this is his 1st game and its against 1 of the best Defenses in College Football. Im not saying he is a high level prospect but some leeway needs to be afforded because of the situation
Florida would have had tape on him, though. Seeing how Muschamp made adjustments at halftime and shut him down, I am not sure TAMU would have won if FL has 1-2 weeks to prepare. It still would have been close IMO.
U can see him on his tippy toes trying to get s better view downfield. I hope he grows another 2 inches because he's barely 6 feet tall, regardless of his 6'1 listing.
9/10 would of failed if this was there first game against Florida in their first game in the SEC. Even if Florida didn't have tape on Manziel, his high school background had him as a dual threat.
Same old crap about being Johnny's first game........Florida wasn't even sure who their QB was and they were at A&M, It is what it is, they lost. Same could be said about the A&M vs Bama, 9 out of 10 Bama would win but that's not what happened. Live with it!
Manziel vs Florida. He gets a 3.5/10. Too many short conservative passes and he doesn't let his reads progress. The scrambles he does are usually a benefit of his offensive line and won't be able to translate to the NFL because of pure speed and strength. Bridgewater got a 7/10 for at least throwing downfield, recognizing the blitz etc.
Which Bridgewater game are you talking about? If your talking about a single game, this is literally manziel's first college game. He looked like a different player a full 18 months later.

Absolutely. If we (Florida) had played A&M later in the year we would've lost to them.

Coach never got enough credit for Manziel's success. Had to have the right coach over Manziel.

As a Browns fan I was excited u were picked. That excitement quickly faded when the whole world realized what a DB he is
Jeezus...Johnny took a freaking pounding this game. Say what you will about JFF, kid was tough as nails
This kid is a sensation. This kid will be a top ten pick just on ticket sales and merchandise alone!
I kinda like this Manzeel kid. May even have a pro career if he plays his cards right. Seems like a humble guy, good luck
Johnny took some nasty hits this game

no...Vick was a way better passer and a huge arm and accuracy. neither could read defenses but Vick didn't play in a spread offense

+Nicky_Projectz well I'm watching Vick NFL games so that's different too
1:45 was the moment I knew he was gonna be great
It was a flag for illegal pass.

hence the 'its too early to start talking about him and the NFL" comment
Ahhh yes, the year that I wish Bortelet was NOT on this roster.
1:47 if he doesn't cross the line that's a touchdown and an insane one at that
Jared Ashdown yea but he was 2 yards past the line which forced the defenders to sell out and go after him
Just remember this is his 1st game and its against 1 of the best Defenses in College Football. Im not saying he is a high level prospect but some leeway needs to be afforded because of the situation
It’s craZy to think where Johnny is now

So why was the first touchdown not called a touchdown
May want to watch the blue line
like bama had tape on him?

to bad the faced Pre Johnny Football cause if they wud face him now I see them losing lol

Johnny cowboy
This guy is real energetic but needs to stay in college for few years.
9/10 freshman* see below comment
Texas A&M's defense is "trash" along with their big mouth QB
Florida's offense is TRASH
