    It works great! I don't have a 3d printer but just used cardboard cutouts and a plexiglass top spray painted black over vinyl number stickers. Then I peeled the stickers off and the light shows through the numbers. Thanks for making it easy for us!

      Neat, took a second to visualize that. I bet it looks great. At least you can tell what Leds represent the hours. I have a wood clock dial from Hobby Lobby with the numbers cut thru so put Leds behind with a defuse. So far thinking of white pump handles from Softsoap, and soap bottles, cut off. Still have to figure out 60 for the M and S, I don't have addressable strips.

    What would have been a neat little extra (but not too sure how well it would have worked out) to add a cutout off the number the `block` is representing, so when the light shines through the back on the wall it would project the number on the wall. Again, dont know how well it would work in practice, but in theory it sure is a cool lil extra

    • @justinhummel5613
      @justinhummel5613 2 года назад

      @James Cotter my guess is that something that the code is referencing has changed... like one of the libraries if you’re using arduino. It will take a lot of digging to make it work, but it should work. That’s why once I get a project working with the libraries it references, I never update them. I’ve spent lots of hours fixing code that worked the day before and now it doesn’t because a library updated.

    • @over00lordunknown12

      (I learned how to read an analogue clock from my mother) When I was in 3rd grade here in the US, they BRIEFLY touched on the topic and then moved on, and we only ever had a few worksheets and one quiz, so it's not like we were drilled on it, and the rest of the stuff we look at is all digital clocks, so it's not really a necessary skill these days... Some analog wrist watches even have the number on them, so it's reasonable that a wall clock could have the same.

Is there a way to have it auto-determine when to change the clock based on the daylight saving time for a certain area? Also, where I am at, my timezone is -5 or -6, but that wasn't working with your code, I had to change the timeZone from an unsigned long to a signed long so that the date and time would be correct. Great Job! Can ESP8266 control 3 different LED ring? One for only second, one for only minutes and last for hour. Thanks

    Thanks for the project. just had a nodemcu lolin v3 and exactly that led strip lying here around. so i started to print it yesterday and today i have a working clock. But i'm just thinking about the connection from the holders, have you glued them or just used double sided tape?

      Hi Frank, awesome you've made the clock. I've used double sided tape for the holders.

      @@LeonvandenBeukel HI Leon, thanks.. did the same.. now i just need some 5V USB power supply (i cannot connect my lab power supply to every project :-) ).. Again.. good work!

    hey! thanks for sharing!
    can u explain to me why u don't need to power the led's externally? is it because u just power 3 led's at one time?

    • @LeonvandenBeukel
      @LeonvandenBeukel  5 лет назад

      It is powered with a 5v 2A power supply. If you would turn on all the LEDs at once it wouldn't be enough power but with 3 LEDs it's enough indeed.

    Arduino IDE error message 'D6' was not declared in this scope... What can i do to fix the problem

    • @LeonvandenBeukel
      @LeonvandenBeukel  4 года назад

      Hi Stephan, then you probably don't use a WeMOS ESP board (or you did'nt set it in the Arduino IDE). If you are using another type of ESP board you can also set DATA_PIN to 6 instead of D6 (or any other pin). Check the documentation for that board to be sure.

    Well done broo 🙏
    Btw, what if i make it for offline? I mean without the wifi modul? What i should have to do?

    • @LeonvandenBeukel
      @LeonvandenBeukel  5 лет назад

      Thanks. If you want an offline clock you will need an RTC (real time clock) module. Check out some of my other clock videos for that. But keep in mind you would need to change quite some code.

    Is there option to share also Fusion 360 file? Or could you create stl with thicker outer wall (ed 2mm)?

    Update: Discovered that the night() subroutine didn't work as I could see that the clock never resulted in enabling the night time field (between 10 PM and 8 AM). The debug code always shows the night time field as '0'. As a result, the LED brightness feature never works during the night time period. When I attempt to manually toggle the value, I noticed that I can get the brightness to change, but it also results in random LEDs blinking. So, the lesser of the two problems is to just forget about the brightness feature, and live with the one brightness. Too bad, this project was close...

      I've just tried the code and found it would not compile, the solution was adding the else return(0) statement that you described, you can sort the night time mode never setting by changing the "and" operator to "or" in the night subroutine

    Is that LED strip made to work LED by LED?
    I know LED strip has 4 wires and every wire controls a color, RGB; just one is for the positive voltage...

    HI Leon, thanks for your project. I have one question: LED no. 1 is at 6. I want to connect the clock at 12, flip it 180 degrees. How can I change the code? Do you have any hints for me? Greetings
