Thanks for this! Always interesting to see who CS Lewis surrounded himself with. Great to see some solid theology we can rely on and build upon - thanks for drawing our attention to him!
I clicked on this specifically to see if there was something on Farrer’s commentary on Revelation, which I want to track down and read for myself. I wasn’t disappointed! Thanks for the tips! Eugene Peterson also praises Farrer’s commentary in the preface of his book on Revelation, Reversed Thunder. Another little book of Farrer’s I love is The Crown of the Year. It’s a collection on one-paragraph length sermonettes for midweek Eucharists at a college where Farrer was Chaplain. They correspond with the ancient lectionary (Collects, Epistles, and Gospels assigned for each Sunday of the year). It’s the only lectionary that has ever been truly ecumenical because its origins reach back to the undivided Church, but hardly anyone follows it now except Anglicans who follow the Prayer Book and some traditionalist Lutherans. What a loss! But Farrer’s short sermons, are just about the most direct way in to the logic of the ancient lectionary.
Pastor, in systematic theology, we can break your 30 year rule, especially if they’re seminal thinkers like Austin Farrar! I have enjoyed his earlier, more thematic study of Revelation: The Rebirth of Images.

Thank you Reverend. Haven’t read anything by Farrer, but appreciate knowing about him

It is great to hear from someone who appreciates Farrer! I don't have crown of the year, but will look for a copy - thanks for the tip. Bless you!
@ The finest preacher of the Twentieth Century, in my humble opinion.
@@jordandraper2284 A fine opinion! I never heard him but his words on paper are excellent!
@@pastorslibrary Touché. Yes, he died 18 years before I was born, but my comment is based on his published sermon notes.
@@jordandraper2284 I have tracked down an affordable copy and ordered it... it will arrive after Christmas, but I look forward to it. Bless you!
It's good to know the authors that are worth spending time on in terms of wider reading. Thanks for this.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, may God bless you!
