The Atheist Community of Austin is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas. The Atheist Community of Austin is dedicated to promoting atheism, critical thinking, secular humanism, and the separation of religion and government.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

A "true Christian", in my opinion, is one who humbly realizes they are far from perfect. Jesus set the bar impossibly high for 'perfection'. It's just not natural for people to love others, including their enemies, as much as they love themselves, and consider the needs of others before their own. But wouldn't this be a wonderful world if more of us could do it?
That's the weird thing about Christianity. Who would create a religion they themselves could never really live up to? 🤔

God wrote the Bible & used mankind to pen it. You actually think God would depend on weak stupid humans to think up and print his Word? That we'd be judged on "Judgement Day" by what men wrote and not what God wrote? God promised that he'd preserve his Word and he did (Psalm 11:6-7).

It mentions the effect of a nuke on the human body, the 2nd law, the fact that God created time/space/matter/energy, that circumcision is done on the 8th day, just like doctors do today. I've been these `discussions` before and it's interesting that the same people who argue that no one is a Christian unless they believe it their way, will have no problem then claiming that the US, for example, is a majority Christian nation. Apparently, if we're talking politics, anyone who says they are a Christian is counted, but as soon as you start talking about the actual beliefs of people, suddenly Christianity becomes a tiny minority. Go figure.

I've seen that too. Christianity is either a huge majority or a tiny persecuted minority, depending on what they need it to be in that particular moment.

America only "became" a christian nation after Eisenhower, in view of the approaching auspicious year 2000 (surely god would do SOMETHING - facilitate the end-times scenario) installed the exact opposite of The American Way as our National Motto. He also installed religion in school (...under god... in the Pledge of Allegiance). The plan has always been to usurp the treasures of our nation for and use them to suit themselves.

I’m am glad that I mostly avoided the religious trap. When I was young it was spoken at me and I really wanted to feel connected to something. When I was young I was on the verge of starting to believe. But what we were taught about God /Jesus didn't seem to necessarily follow the stories from the Bible we were taught. So I decided to go for it and read the Bible myself and see how it makes sense. I didnt get past exodus. I was so sickened by the immoral behavior of the supposed heavenly father, I was done, I didn't bother to read further. I didn't become outspoken atheist but that basically destroyed any chances of me actually converting.
Not quite the same for me - raised Catholic - but a similar discomfort or feeling that none of it made sense. Before I was a teen my parents had reached their conclusion & they bailed on rhe church.

I have to admit that I am closer to a mythicist. If you say that Jesus was "based on" and actual person, that means that Jesus was a fictional character that did not exist, but used an actual person as a templet. Paul Bunyan did not exist, but the fictional character was based on a person that did exist. When people like Bart Ehrman say that Jesus existed, I don't know what they're talking about. As far as I can tell, Ehrman is saying that there is an actual person there, but he can't tell us who that person is. I don't see how you can say a person existed and not be able to point to that person. I'm fine with the "based on" model, but I don't think you can call that actual existence. Certainly, I don't believe the person that the character was based on did things like; walking on water, healing the sick, raising the dead, etc.. Nor do I believe the narrative or the words attributed to that character.

The thing is that the Christian God being true and realizing that after we die is the same position that Christians would be in if Islam or some other religion that claims is the true religion and punishes the nonbeliever for getting it wrong. A Christian may think that the other religion is preposterous and there’s is right but say they stand before the True god and debunks Christianity before them they’re in the same position as the atheist is. “How could something I’m sure is false be true?!” No way! Now I’m getting punished for eternity for not believing in something absurd?! It’s exactly the same position.
