Man, i can't believe how long i wrote off Recs. Without a boost, they're not fun at all... but nearly ANY boost in front, and its one of the greatest tones of all time!
Uncle Ben is here!!!! 👍🎸
Try the Maxon 820 in front of the Mesa and magic will happen
@@Mendelianyou should try a origin effects revivaldrive custom pedal infront of a dual.
The ghost drive dial adds a touch of vintageness.
Felt the same. My first tube amp was a basic three channel Triple Rectifier. Wasn’t metal enough for me. Now I know how to boost with a OD pedal, the Dual Rectifier Multi Watt I currently own is my main amp.
Yeah, unboosted I'd rather listen to my ex-wife. Boosted it's a pretty awesome 5150iii LOL
It would be really interesting to hear from a Mesa engineer about what they were aiming for with each revision.
The early rev's were pretty much a literal clone of the Soldano SLO100
Would love to see a comparison with the Badlander and the Multi-watt.
the "best" rectifier is the good old underrated roadster for me, still very affordable here in germany and a lot more options and features..loaded with el34, killer! cheers 🎸🎸
Great shootout! I love the Multi-watt recs. They are an amazing iteration of the Rectifier. I couldn't agree more with your conclusion 👏
The rev d just sounds more scooped on the mids. Gotta say I like the multi watt.
Agreed. Even when he dropped the mids on the multi, they still cut through. Multi on orange is substantially darker.
I agree but not really. Let me explain. We associate the midrange on the rev d with being scooped but i dont think it is. Its just different. In a good way for me.
It definitely sounds to me like the MultiWatt could benefit from a bump UP in the Presence to get more evened up with the Rev D.
Cool vid, Fluff- thanks for sharing.
Agreed. I don’t think he was making the right EQ moves to match the amps.
Back in the day most loved the scooped tone! Today it's all about the mids! Great comparison video Thanks Bro...
I love the high gain saturation of the mesa rectifiers. It just adds a special something, especially if you’re using multiple amps with different tones. The rectifier was my first love, and I still have my two channel tri rec. Just straight up awesome amps. Thanks for the comparison, Fluff!
LOVE my multi watt dual rec... I think it's the best of the LOT.
Good demo . It’s great too see old and new comparisons .
that Rev D is just unstoppable. theres magic in those tubes or something, so much punch and clarity, what a beautiful sounding amp.
Thx fluff for this awesome comparison and for your precious work on the rectifier website… it would be nice to see (and hear) a Badlander Vs RevD video… both with same tubes obviously!
That sounds very powerful. Nice!
This is what I love seeing man... Definitely your bread and butter to me
Been watching your videos for a while but I just now had the realization to check out Dragged Under. So glad I did. One of my favorite bands I’ve come across in a while
OH MY FREAKING GOD! I wish I had the ear that you have! I absolutely SUCK at amp tone! You rock my friend.
Dude! That Rev D sounds brutal.
I own a few Rev F's, Rev G's, the road king V1, the recording recto preamp and some multi-watts and love them all. I use mostly the chinese tubes in them with some with JJ's and they all can sound pretty close to one another. Cool video comparison. \m/
Road Kings rule!
I love Rectifiers also. I currently own a 4 channel Dual rectifier roadster and a multiwatt that was made in Jan of 2022. Mesa is just one of the best imo, I really want to get an older Mark IV now and a JP2C. Cool comparison, I need to get me an older Rev E Dual Rectifier
The rev d sounds so good. Idk why they ever changed that
I like how the multiwatt sounds more raw and balanced, the 2-channel sounds more eighties, but I don't like its treble.
The orange channel of multiwatt is definitely something new, it sounds good but it is very different
Nice video! I remember I sold you my Rev E what seems like 10-15 years ago! Kept my D and have it in stable to this day.
DUDE whats up my guy! Email me! fluff@riffsandbeards.net
thanks for all the info i just got a non multiwatt triple rectifier that if im not mistaken should be on the rev D end since the serial number its 450
Love my Rev F w different boosts and speaker combos. Can make it really pissed off sounding!! The Multiwatt gets me close but definitely missing that angry older Mesa growl.
Great video! Despite all the 5150,6505 heads today the Rectifier still gets my vote for the most wicked…black leather and chrome. Come on man! 🤘
Close on the red, but man that orange channel from the first of the rectifiers is legendary.
I was just about to say I like the multi watt and then suddenly, "I'm actually really liking the multi watt right now."
I would like to see your take on a early roadking vs an old recto. Since you can blend EL34s and 6L6s in the roadking, maybe you can match it either more ? :)
Adding to the "Multiwatt took the win" chorus. I definitely prefer the mid-range.
I have a Rev F & a 2017 Multiwatt. I should try this out!
I’ve got a 2001 single rectifier which I love. I found that JJ 6l6’s sound better for me. Takes some time to dial in a decent tone but overall worth it.
The Rev D seems to do ‘that’ tone a bit better, but the multi watt seems a lot more versatile
Would anyone have some advice for me how to set up my 150watt triple recto like Fluff just showed? Talking red channel / Modern or Vintage etc….knob settings etc
Hey Fluff , since you're somewhat of a Dual Rec expert (I'd say) ... what if you did a video where you try to make a Boss Katana head sound as close as possible to a Dual Rec. Since in the software there's 2 different Dual Rec models? 🤔
😂😂😂 NO
You wanna sound like a recto ditch the boss man
@@bmark7951 just for the fun of it
@@Ottophil What would you recommend for the same price point?
No chance of that happening mate, I sold my boss katana it was useless
Multiwatt sound more organic, overall better. Nice video.
I would really like to hear about the different 3ch revisions!
Serious Question. How are you switching between cabs using the OX Box. Do you have a switcher or are you manually changing out the chord between amps?
I've been playing for long time. I have used and owned a lot of gear but dude the amount of high dollar gear... you jam in $$$$$land. Nice
Really dig the Multi-Watt. I currently have no Mesa amps after having a mark V and a 3 channel triple rectifier. Now I’m completely torn between a mark series and a rectifier any advice is greatly appreciated!
I'm lucky enough to both V90w and the triple. depends what sound you want. if you want full heavy rythem go triple if you want awesome lead and tight single note rythem go mark v
Please do a comparison with a stock modern made multi watt Dual Rec and a Mark VII…
I’ve always wondered if a Mark can do the dual Rec sound convincingly. I’m between buying one of those models. Love the flexibility of the Mark but want that dual rec growl on tap too.
I would like the Rev D for recording metal rhythm guitars, but the multi watt could probably sit in a mix better, especially live. They both have enough of a differential eq tone stack to serve a purpose 😁
Hey Fluff - great shootout! What preamps are you using to record? Looks like some kind of 1073 setup. Cheers.
YESSSSSSS
What the Nomad and the Studio 22? Sleepers for sure!!
Love this episode?
Do you bypass the fx loop in your tone? If not how u dial it in?
Loops were bypassed
Whats your opinion on STL Tones Josh Middleton Duel Rec plug in? I think its the most insane, accurate capture of any plugin. Its actually not a capture, they rebuilt the circuits component by component which is a first of its kind I believe....things sounds amazing.
Yeah it’s really amazing
Road King 2 for the win. 🥇
Amps were boosted It seems. There's a pedal engaged next to the footswitch?
Going back to your OG-OGeee "Dual Rectifier High Gain Shootout!" I feel like the loathed 3-channel solo head sounds closer to the 2 channel than the Multi-Watt.
Does anyone know if the multi watts have a clean effects loop with no tone suck even at low volumes? I played a roadster that is serial and still has some tone fx loop issues.
Whe you leave the ox box and go into your interface are you running the line through a pre before your daw?
Nope direct into the converter
I have one of those black face 2ch Fs around here somewhere. Never recorded with it, but just playing in the room I kind of liked the way the orange channel gain sounded with the Mid all the way up, the Treble all the way down (9 o'clock max) and Presence up to bring bite back. Anybody else do that?
Have you ever been interested in doing a Road King 1 vs Road King 2 shootout or something to that effect?
Rev d has such a sizzle. Without playing it myself it’s hard to tell if I’d really like it to live with.
Hey Brother is it true the modern multiwatt is voiced like an F ?
Im in Cali wanting to compare my 2 channel non multiwatt dual rect to one of these C and F versions
You know what would be funzies...., that Triple Rev F!!!!! Please make a video please!!!!! That thing must be insaaaaane!!!!!
I've heard that when they're cranked you can hear the lamentation of the women!!!
rev D on the orange channel was amazing and worth every cent of its price. BUT it would be cool to hear both of the orange channels tracked together. difference in mids would make a huge tone.
Great video !!!
>Next Video -> SOLO HEAD vs MULTIWATT ?????
Yo ryan could you review a stilleto?
Multi-watt is the best Dual Rectifier. I'll die on that hill. I love them
I might actually like the red channel of the MW a little more but the orange channel on the Rev D sounds so much more aggressive
ToneX, Quad Cortex, Kemper, NAM, HeadRush capture?
Id love to hear the Mesa Multi vs EVH Stealth 100w
🤘
I saw that Dirty Tree....love that pedal!
Edit: I don't see a link to the Rectifier history you mentioned...or am I just dumb?
Oops adding
@@RiffsAndBeards Thanks, heading there now...
It would be sweet to compare an old school Dual Racktifier rev g with the 2 channel recs. There is a difference according to my friend Mike Hasty from Walls of Jericho. He said when he visited the Mesa factory he was told it has lot to do with a more compact design cause it has shorter signal paths. He taught me to have presence on 0 and just use the treble so it cuts out fizz they’re known for.
While I prefer the overall core sound of the Rev D, looks like the multiwatt has way more flexibility and you could potentially match it to be exactly like the Rev D. I do like flexibility and variety so I'm going for the multi watt.
The multi watt seems to be more fitted and tighter on that Red Channel whereas the Rev D seems to have a smashing warmer and brighter tones for m ore kind of Marshall flavour"ish" tones
that full multiwatt mix sounds like an every time i die song lol
Damn, the multiwatt actually killed it here. The D was a bit of a scooped and harsh tone
D had a nice sizzle.
@@Starch1b2c3d4a the sizzle is useless in a full mix, i low pass filter out everything above 8k anyways, cause the sizzle clashes with hi hats and cymbals.
I agree, was surprised that I preferred the multiwatt in every instance
Yep, all I could think about is how the Rev D would get lost in a mix with such scooped mids.
I have to admit Fluff, I was a two channel hater forever. When the three channels came out, I had a Triple Rec 3 channel. All of my buddies had dual/triple 2 channels (not sure of rev version). I "needed" a third channel, so I went with it and all of my buddies were poor examples of two channels for a healthy comparison like this. Hearing one tuned up with good tubes/etc, its clear that I was way wrong on the dirty channel, and the older Revs ripped compared to my three channel. I didn't have a multi watt version though.
Old mesa DR sounds better for me. thanks for the presentation
I've tried a bunch of rectifiers and with a little tweaking, they all sound pretty much the same; except the rectifier solo, that one sounds like crap. I totally agree with Fluf though, when he says the rectifier can do anything you want. It truely is an all terrain vehicle.
I like the multi watt better. I like the mid range on it better
Arguably, I feel the mids in the Multi-Watt may be more useable both in a live band situation and in a recording. Still sounds brutal, but less “buried”…
Sitting here doing this the multi might sound better. More marshall thwack to it. But throw them dudes in a mix and some slower chord work especially with palm muting and the rev ds midrange will give that walking in fresh snow crunch to the mix.
Mesa uses JJ tubes now? Is this new??
That much beef makes me want to go get a burger! (Okay lame line, but damn that first tone was beefy)
Rectifier? Damn near killed ‘em…
I did a trade with a guy. Got a Mesa Dual Rectifier Multi Watt in the trade. Played with it 2 times. Far too many knobs and switches to be useful. Included it in a trade in deal today for a brand new Friedman BE 100 Deluxe and Freidman 4x12 cab.
D soo much tighter. Is that what they went for in the badlander? I would like to see badlander against rev D
My favorite presenter, Ryan "Let's twist some knobs" Bruce.
Surprisingly, on the orange channel, I find the Rev D sounding way more "modern". Like very mid focused and "in your face".
Meza?
Rev D wins in my eyes. I like the brighter sound.
Beefy!
Will we ever get a single rectifier review I feel like they get no love
Sunday chug fest let's frickin go
I'm a simple man. I see the word Rectifier, I click.
Orange, I prefer the multi.
The multiwatt sounded better than the Rev D until you tried to make it sound as fizzy as the Rev D. I think you might have an attachment to that Rev D and can’t get past that
I think the same. The MW sounds more balanced and nice, the fizz of rev D is not good, and taking the MW to that place doesn't work
Rev D has like a fizzle in the high end that i just don't like, the Muliwatt has perfect mids, and high end is just right.
You went the wrong way with the presence knob in the attempt to make the MW sound close the D.
These amps sound ballin af. 😤😤😤
Hey Fluff. Kitsap local. Would love to see my Mk4 head on a video. Round trip delivery, no shout-out required. It's a 2X6L6/2XEL34 freshly tech'ed and clean. You had a '12 vid on one but I haven't seen it in the stable since. It's been a decade...could you get away with another Mk4 vid?
I have a 2008 Mark IV short head ☺️
Rev D for sure.
Whenever I hear a recti there's one question: WHERE ARE THE MIDS? :D
I actually think I actually preferred the Multi-watt, until you tried to get it to sound like the 2-chan, and then that one sounded better, oddly enough. Which I think kinda defeats the purpose? No? If you try to get one amp to sound like the other, the original is always gonna sound better, which can easily mislead us.
🙂
