“It’s day 27 on this expedition. While it remains to be seen what the professor expects to find out here, I can take comfort in the fact that our locomotive has been moving steadily and equipment have been cutting thru all the dense foliage in our way with great efficiency. I can’t imagine what it took to lay tracks down in an environment like this. Can’t shake the feeling, however, that something, or someone, is watching us. Maybe a lot of someones”
I have heard tales of another expedition that came before. An expedition that never came back. Be careful out there. A wilderness can swallow you whole, and leave no trace you were ever there.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that this is a tiny train with a normal size weedwhacker car attachment and not a full size train with a comically oversized and probably illegal people-mulcher on the front. Is the model/ scenery just that good or am I stupid? Probably both! What a clever solution to trimming the tracks while keeping thinks looking nice and natural!
I think its simply a case of its just that good. Its not overdone in any way, its not flashy, it looks and feels like your average train line somewhere in the world, apart from the weedcutting cars.
it's very real and honest. not oversold or pretending to be something it isn't. it's indifferent to the viewer. you clicked on the weedwhacker train and that's exactly what you got. i'm happy too. :D
I also spent several seconds entirely willing to believe that Australia had leafy plants that huge. I realized what it actually was when I realized that those were weedwackers and not a set of metal blades along the back edge or something.
I love everything about this. I love the custom design. I love the track layout. I love the noise it makes. I love the caution stripes to warn nearby crickets. Adorable. 10/10
I love the ingenuity of the custom maintenance cars. In some way it's the best model railroad thing I've ever seen. It's not that a power tool battery vertical weedwhacker is modeling an actual train car that does the same. It's that this unique car is modeling the style of applying power to a chassis that solves a problem and that's what most of full scale railroad design, especially MOW, seems to be.
Whenever I watch one of your videos I'm almost always like "How come this dude is in spring, how come his garden is so lush right now?" and then I'm remember you're Australian. Thank you for keeping company with us up here through your delightful videos.
I watched a video earlier today showing a snowplow clearing the snow. But this is the most genius thing I've ever seen. You have trimmers on the front car and a mower on the second car. This is truly awesome.
Just finished watching this video and went to go have dinner. Everyone's looking at me kinda weird and they ask, "everything alright?" "Yeah, why?", I asked. "You've got this weird, ear to ear grin that's kinda a little sus", one of them said and the rest agreed. I think to myself, yeah, that train weed whacker was pretty sweet. 😅
You now need a train to follow with a spinning brush or a blower to clear all that debris from the tracks . Another project eh ? Very satisfying to watch. Thanks!😊
This is the modified brush cutter and how well it works ! I love the battered appearance of the loco doing its job and all covered in cuttings. Where are the chickens ? I remember spring arriving in Melbourne in the late 1960s. Here in eastern Ontario, Canada we are battening down the hatches for the onset of winter. Your videos give me a great deal of pleasure. More so than immaculate rolling stock on an inside model railway.
I love the very ghibli fantasy world feel to the landscape, with oversized and nearly overgrown moss covered track sections. I also like the 'upgrade' to the mulching car has meant that the actual spinning-death-blades on the sides of it are now more reasonable weed whacker lines.
True m.o.w. equipment and such a novel solution, at that! Glad it's 1:24 scale, for I'm not sure I could handle such large batteries to get them to a charger if it were 1:1 (I bet Makita never dreamed of such an application, either lol)... I love the true-to-life feel of seeing only the two rails through the grassy stretches after they've been mowed (well, it IS real, actually...) and seeing green growth at this time of year is a pleasure here in the bitter cold of northwest North Dakota! By the way, I bet that lizard wasn't too keen on hanging out near the right-of-way, either! Thanks for sharing this and happy New Year :)
Looks like to switched out the vertical blades to string line? Like the new paid job as well. Maybe put a guard on the horizontal cutter motor to keep debris out? Love the train!!
Great to see you back Sir! I was in Melbourne 6 weeks ago and thought about getting in touch , but it was freezing and wet ! Still I had a great time riding trams and drinking coffee in the City Laneways . Looking forward to more of Melbourne Sparks over the summer. P.S .. you know a smoke generator in the old Diesel would be cool?? You could turn it up to "Alco" mode ! CHeers Gregg.
Yeah there wasn't much happening here at that time. I have seen some interesting smoke generators, though I always thought they're kind of in the category of sound systems. If you're going to do them you have to do them really well.
As someone who deals mostly in N scale seeing this level of MOW feel like a great example of what can be done in the larger scales. You reach a point where its less a model and more of an actual railroad and your thinking starts to shift along with it like making custom MOW cars.
Makita has a battery powered blower called DAS180Z which could be used to blow away all cut leafs and gras. Because all the green material which was cut to pieces is a powerful fertiliser for all the plants growing directly at the train tracks.
04:55 the blower would also prevent the following vehicles being covered in a thick layer of cut green leafs and gras. And for the second vehicle it could look nice to surround the motor with a kind of metal wire cage to keep the openings of the motor free of dirt etc.
👌😂👍👉❤️This is so cool! Is like watching the real deal in miniature!! This got to be the best outdoors train 🚂 sets I’ve ever seen! 👌🥰👍So freaking realistic! I love it!
@@Jasper_4444 Memory won't help if there's a new obstruction, such as a trespasser, fallen tree, etc. Perhaps he relies on a drone view (i.e. the real human) 🤣
@@PJRayment If you were doing this in 1:1 scale you'd probably want someone to walk along some distance ahead to check for obstructions and direct the driver by radio. The platform shelter did collapse quite a while ago now, there's going to be a replacement 'soon'.
If this is what you are into as a hobby more power to you and yes I love the weed destruction how about the winner they have a miniature snowplow very nice video thank you
Brilliant! I'd like to watch it do a second run and trim it all up a little more! Do you think you could put a carriage with a spinning brush on the back to clear debris and keep the line free? Or a carriage with a gentle spray (eg vinegar) for controlling growth between the tracks?
For a second there I was thinking "Holy crap you wouldn't want to be standing near the tracks when this goes by, also bad for wildlife..." Then I woke up. lol
Just throwing an idea, but what about a vacuum wagon to suck up debris? Take those table vacuums put it on train wheels (over simplified but I would go that direction) Anyway, nice, I love those freshly clean cut way
You need a blower fan to be towed behind the locomotive to blow the leftover debris off the rails, a small blower with an air funnel pointing down and to the sides would direct everything off the sides. Or perhaps a sweeper?

Write historical fiction literature.
Do it.

Don't be embarrassed. In my mind, it's very realistic by being very simple. One of my favourite model tramways.

Same:)
This is why I watch You Tube. Amazing stuff by wonderful people.
This track set up is Amazing... Found it last night/early this morning with a train plowing snow!!! Added this to the playlist for today and WOW!!
Gives entirely new meaning to: Honey, I'm gonna go mow the lawn! Easily one of the best model railways I've ever seen.
I love everything about this. I love the custom design. I love the track layout. I love the noise it makes. I love the caution stripes to warn nearby crickets. Adorable. 10/10
There's something extremely pleasing about watching this video, like those viral videos where people mow overgrown lawns... 🤗
Marvellous. I now have a smile that will last all day.

Yes I think I seen that video this morning then had to add this....
A-ha! I was wondering how it was trimming underneath -- I didn't notice it was the 2nd car doing that until reading your comment.

Your Garden set up is beautiful and the MOW equipment that you have designed and constructed is brilliant!
Maintenance on these outdoor tracks must be insane and I'm glad to see an answer to this! Great job!
Absolutely brilliant. An outstanding solution to keeping an outdoor track system weed free.

This is the most soothing thing I've watched all week!
One of the greatest machines man has every made.
Magnificent! Superb ASMR value.
Ok, just gotta say this is pretty cool. I'm not into the model train thing , or whatever the proper term is. But I really enjoyed this. Great job.
Wow, what a handy machine.
Indeed. I certainly wouldn't want to be doing all that trimming by hand!
Nice to see it no longer throws knives!
The neatest Model Maintenance of Way train that actually performs Maintenance of Way.
True m.o.w. equipment and such a novel solution, at that! This is still on my bucket list: Experience a spring at a time when there is actually autumn/fall.
That happens every autumn. It's how seasons work :)
@@melbournesparks3828 until you go equatorial then it all gets a bit muddy as you get two summers, two winters, and no "spring' or "autumn"...

Very satisfying content! MOW equipment is undermodeled in my opinion and even though yours isn't very scale, it sure does work fantastic!
I've been waiting for this one! I love this little mobile finger liberator 😍
Looks like a setting for a novel or a movie that takes place in an alternative Australia that is covered in dense rain forest, and megafauna.

It is remarkable how absolutely satisfying this video is!!! SO VERY SATISFYING!!!😌
(…and damn clever!! 👍)
Bruh! Really! Wtf! This the coolest thing I've seen in my life from 100% so cool. Life goals achieved❤
What a fantastic layout. Also very enjoyable to watch “railway gardening “😂
If you have ever seen the full sized deal in operation, you would know how impressive this model is!!!!!!!

Nice MOW equipment. That works on different levels.

Other than the audio hell, this was the best thing ever.
Great idea !!! Well done 👍👍👍
It's crazy how passion can be a magnificent engine...
So how does the locomotive driver get a clear view of the track ahead?😁
The dilapidated shelter at Falls Loop has finally succumbed to the elements?
The driver will just have to rely on their memory, I'm afraid.

that real good way of cleaning track , great od loco stay on the track
WOW, that's really clever, well done to you
How'd I get here ..... not sure but I stayed for the entire 7mins haha
You def need to get some sort of leaf blower incorporated into that as well
I have witnessed this in person, and the threat is real. A great railway, once the mutilator has been and gone!
Now that's what I call a Yard Train. ;)
Das ist ja toll! 👍👍👍 Liebe Grüße
I'm jealous. I sit in a room all day with no windows for work and you get to play damn trains in your own backyard
Seriously clever and cool!
Looks more RRie like with the new striped paint job 😅👌
That diesel got a layer of grass on it!

This is better than playing the Power Wash game....
7 minutes of my life...for this? Not a bad deal really :)
...I find it amusing that the train has a mini-toilet for whatever reason. Real nice focus on realism there.
