Gary Gygax created a game that gave a bunch of us outcasts something to do and while today it may be mainstream back in the day it was the domain of nerds and those that did not fit in, and it has helped so many people with poor social skills learn how to interact with other people. I have met so many great people over the years because of role playing and I have to thank Gary Gygax for the opportunity to do so.

My first Great DM gave me an appreciation for what it took to get the game to where it was in 2002.
Another Great DM took our party through the Tomb of Horrors and that was the first time I heard the term "Gygaxian" and I understood it immediately and have strived to incorporate that element into my own games ever since.
When Dungeons and Dragons Online was hot, we always took a knee when we passed the shrine for Gary out of respect.
WotC has stood on the shoulders of giants, not just Gary Gygax but now that they are falling off, are blaming him for their stumbles.
I've intended to leave my 1st D20 at his grave or the gaming museum if it ever comes into fruition because of everything that I learned since that first die and that first game.
Curse them for slandering The Dungeon Master, I took a knee for that man and I meant it because of all the friends and lessons that I learned because of him.

For better or worse, fantasy and games like D&D were a refuge from troubling times for a lot of kids, and in return we got stigmatized even more for it. We were often the victims of mockery, and the butts of many jokes, and even made to feel ashamed for being such weird nerds. So to be told now that we were somehow also the bad guys naturally provokes the same defensive reaction as we had back then.

I wish being a nerd was stigmatized again.
You learned to navigate the world better and the time with nerds was richer.
Anyone who was in primary school from 2010 onward doesn't know what it was really like and our hobbies have been systematically destroyed since.

I started playing D&D in 1978. My first husband was friends with a guy who learned to play in groups with Gary Gygax in college. I was the ONLY girl in our group, and spent a lot of time world building. In the 90s I taught the kids to play, and we STILL play all these years later. My kids know who GG was. Really encouraged to see young people getting together to play this crazy game all these years later.

I am with you. My first character was made in 1979 and I taught my kids how to play as soon as they could hold a pencil.
WotC has forgotten the legacy and tradition the game represents to people. They stopped supporting game stores which leaves fewer gateways to RPGs. Virtually everyone I know started playing because of a parent or older sibling.

Thanks great video!! Loved your personal stories!! I for one -- am so Thankful to Gygax and Arneson for creating D&D. Thank you Gary!! -- Thank you Dave!! Without Gary and Dave we wouldn't have D&D and all of these great TTRPGs. So many good times and fond memories from D&D and other TTRPGs. Some of these fools at WoTC haven't accomplished a 100th of what Gary and Dave did. No one will ever remember their names.
