After 20 something years living in Metro Vancouver, we decided relocated in East coast, we founded a charmy brand new neighborhood in Metro Halifax named Eastern Passage 7 years ago, so we got a pleasant and happier living style since then we love Nova Scotia
I would add one pro - the access to nature! There are lots of wonderful parks, trails, beaches to explore both within and just outside the city so very accessible. One of my favourite things about living here!
Yep, that is the only thing that made Halifax tolerable from me. but you can find that in most cities in Canada of that size and bigger. The closest you will get to real pristine nature with the exception of some of the coastline is in the remnant forests near Cape Breton, inland from Fishermans Harbour, and in Southern NS near south area of Handsled Lake. That is the closest you will get in the Maritimes to seeing a real forest.
Hi! Bro I’ve been in Halifax a month ago it was a good experienced roaming around the city and good to know about the Pros and Cons in Halifax. Thanks for uploading your video i really like it and God bless you always.
Great video! Another pro I can mention (based on numbers, I've never lived there) is "milder" winter,s compared to some other places like, let's say, Ottawa or Calgary. It's nothing like Vancouver or Victoria, but extreme low temperatures are rare on the charts I've seen. Also, racoons are not rodents.
Great video, Tom. I'd suggest that the close proximity to nature makes this a terrific city as well. Plenty of parks, trails and beaches are all within easy reach. I'm also pretty satisfied with the climate here, which is generally pretty agreeable overall. One con I'd add though is that NS Power is pretty unreliable for a utility. I have been all over the country and power outages here happen far more often than anywhere else I've experienced. It can be frustrating at times.
It’s just where you live. I’ve lived here for 43 years, I can count on both hands how many times I’ve lost power. There are no pros of living here. Not anymore.
bed bugs and cockroch are bad in Halifax. Lots of ticks and driving at night the deer are in large numbers and love to be on the roads. major plus is the outdoor life, great fishing and hunting.
Great to hear crime rate is on the low side. I looked into Surrey recently and got 0 positive responses from about 20 people I talked to who live there. All of them said they cannot walk at night past dark in majority of the main Surrey. That was an eye opener!
Depends where you live in Surrey, It is one big city suburb. My wife and I are seniors and have walked late nights there for over 5 years; no problems and even love cycling in Surrey. I'd take South Surrey any day over any city in the Maritimes.
I’m going to be travelling to Halifax for 12 days and I’m trying to find a good hotel… I’m thinking of possibly staying in two hotels one for six days the other for six days. If you have any suggestions, it doesn’t have to be the cheapest hotel but perhaps not as expensive as the Sutton…otherwise I care more about the quality and how comfortable the bed is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏
It depends on what your looking for, we have tons of options when it comes to hotels and I’m not sure which ones are considered better then others I think they are all pretty similar
@@Livinginhalifax Honestly a comfortable bed for a longer stay is the most important to me. Also I’d like one of the two to be Downtown. I just want it to be worth the money! I was looking at The Barrington or the Hotel Halifax but I’m not sure if they’re a bit too worn? My other thoughts were the Lord Nelson, Marriott Harbourfront, The Cambridge or The Homewood suites by Hilton 🤷🏼♀️ even if you’ve been to one that you know is not good… That would be helpful too!
Population of Halifax has increased by 20000 . Soon there will be 20000 more cars and many requiring parking when shopping and running errands. Where are you going to build all this parking accommodations? I think if would be better if we could get some bicycle infrastructure instead . Ten bicycles can be parked in the same space as one car .
Right let’s ride bicycles everywhere!, lol. GO GREEN, lol. The same person that will only be allowed a 10 shower and no burning u r own fire wood to help out Mother Nature!.
@@angeleye4253 if governments want to save water they should go after the golf course owners . They waste water and pollute like there's no tomorrow. Thousands of acres of land and millions of liters of fresh water wasted so a handful or rich and super-rich folks can play around with a ball .
Terrible. I've never owned a car and have used Halifax Transit faithfully for 45 years! It's only gotten marginally better. I was on two buses this past Saturday. Incredibly hot day and neither bus had AC. This is not unusual. Buses don't have their shocks replaced often enough, if at all. It can be a brutal ride, depending what part of the municipality you're in. The Dartmouth "bridge" bus terminal is atrocious, nothing but bone-rattling bumps. It can feel as though you're getting your a$$ kicked. Of course, Halifax is a have-not city, situated in a have-not province. So there's not much money to invest in infrastructure. A monthly adult bus pass (unlimited use) is currently $82.50 CDN. (I don't know if it can be used on the express routes.) Others have told me this is expensive. I dunno. Drivers are good folk, for the most part. There have been a few assaults on bus drivers the last few months. Why would anyone assault a bus driver? Makes no sense.
I am also considering moving to Halifax, but what other alternatives are there? I can’t afford rent in Vancouver/Toronto. And don’t know French to move to Montreal.
I'm looking forward to studying an IT course in NSCC, what do you think of it and what are the chances of me getting a part time job while studying. In addition, are there opportunities for an IT graduate over there?
I studied IT Data Analytics at NSCC. 90% of my class had a job lined up before graduation. You should be able to get a job quite easy as we are hurting for workers.
@adamsteele6148 Theres all kinds of jobs. Not everything is entry-level and who cares if its remote? Its IT you dont need to be in an office. Don't come at me saying ummm no. I literally just did it.
I found if you have a home paid for in BC, you will have much more disposable income than that of anyone with a home paid for in the major cities of the Maritimes. Groceries, property taxes, utilities, and even some services is much higher in places like Halifax, Moncton, Fredericton, and even Saint John.
High taxes , parking meters are the worst. Transit system is very bad. Town council totally useless and very disrespectful to the local residents and businesses. Lovely summers and nice beaches. People are friendly. Heating your house or apartment and cable prices are the highest in the country. No future for young people but nice retirement for older people. Wages are too low in most services and industry. Those are the facts ! Oh we have nice restaurants . Traffic is worst than Toronto or Montreal for a small city.Shortage of Doctors the last few years.
health care is horrible in canada you can get better services in the Philippines then all canada , number 2 you can always buy land outside Halifax for 20k or live in a vanlife

I moved from BC in 2020 due to the cost of housing. Taxes are higher, very hard to get medical treatment expect around 8 to 12 wait in emergency, people are very nosy and want to know all your business so they can gossip as they are not too intelligent. There is not much to do except walking if you like that or have a dog. Tradespeople are very bad at turning up if you need work doing on your property, don't even call to say they can't make it. Stores outside Halifax are poor and hard to get anything so thankfully Amazon exists. Power outages occur during high winds due to old infrastructure and only one power company in control and they would rather pay their investors than look after customers. Car dealers are really bad scammers and liars and not very knowledgeable on their products.
