I'm white, I was 8 and Parliament was the first album I ever bought. My parents thought I lost my mind. I just had to get my funk! I'm 59 now and I'm still getting my funk!
LOL that's cool yeah I was like 7 or 8 years old when Parliament was out and funkadelic and believe me I was getting those albums at that age back in the 70s very nostalgic but my mother was kind of iffy about some of those funkadelic albums and she wouldn't let me have some of those funkadelic albums because of the covers and they used to cuss on those records funkadelic was very radical in the 70s boy those were the good days
Yes, I remember so well when they came out or really became famous bc I was still in college. But there was nobody like them ever and as each passing year went by, they became even more radical and branched out into several groups. George Clinton was a genius!!! We loved their groove and we listened to everything they came out with bc we were guaranteed to be up on the funk. I was still listening to them in my early career days and going to all of their concerts no matter where they appeared. They were fire and we were fired with them as their funkateers. I think I saw the Mothership land at least twice if not three times. So you know I liked Bootsy and the Funkadelics too!!!
I used to play in a hardcore punk band. Before every local show, we would watch this whole show at my guitarist’s house. He had it on an ancient VHS he borrowed his father. After a few joints, beers, and a fifth of Jim Beam, we would go out and destroy. Our music sounded nothing like Parliament, but their whole sound and vibe influenced us more than most of the punk we listened to lol

You my funky brother got it! Funk got no structure or other musical guidance. P-Funk is pure rhythm and nothing else. Everything rides on the rhythm regarding GEORGE CLINTON (Father of P-FUNK)!
What do you mean FUNK GOT NO STRUCTURE???? I can see none of you what funk is? Funk came out black church not protestant or catholic. Modern you have to live near or in PROJECTS, Elks clubs, Masonic lodges, Legions, VFW, Speakeasies cause blacks couldn't get liquor licenses, Cabarets bring your own or some alcohol is furnished , food also. There is funk in jaz zand funk and black sanctified gospel you have to learn master it before 19 yrs old. No matter what color
Cm7 groove, this is the end of the tune! The tune has a bridge in F7 . Many funk tunes have a minor chord vamp ( modal) and a bridge that chords MOVE that is harmonic. Their slow tunes usually are simple harmonic tunes.

I saw them at the Roseland in NYC, late 70s they started to walk out on stage around 9-930pm and walked off close to 4:30 am I still haven't gotten over that yet
i came across fuzzy and another member on the streets of hilversum (holland) and he asked me were the mc donalds was, but i could not speak anymore. all i could say was p-funk,p-funk! i never forget that moment
Have listened to this so many times and I swear that as the band warms up it finds it's "groove" in two distinct, like, gear changes or something. Something about their vibe just clicks on the guitar hook at 1:19 and then higher intensity all comes together at the 'c'mon now' at 2:44 when the drummer starts really thumping the bass. This song is really all about the band getting on the same beat ... the audience is just along for the ride.
Tha's PFunk, no warm up, no nothing, plug n play, come on, let's go....If you ever been to a Pfunk concert, that's what they do, just come on, strap up, bam...Pfunk begins....."come on yall, there's a soul out tonight, fo my soul comes out tonight, there's a soul out tonight, yall come own..."...damn, that's Pfunk.....
Been sorting through a few Parliament videos for few months..never realized how great a live performance sounded..most artist and groups sound better through studio this funk blows all that out the water
Excluding George, Fuzzy was by far the best of the original Parliaments although Ray Davis was totally badass too. I wish there was live footage of his solo album stuff.
When this song was played at the club, the dance floor became immediately packed. My first days discoing and asking the cute girls to dance, the big afro-style hair, stack heels, popcorn shirts, "ya'll come on"
