- Okay, for the record, I did not film this. I just love this musical and I wanted to share this scene because it is my favorite one in the entire scene because they TANGO and it is sexy and gorgeous. Enjoy.
The more I watch Elena Roger as Evita, the more I like her. She's got this feral quality that really makes me buy her rise to power, but she also has this rigidity and coldness that makes you accept her as the First Lady of Argentina and Eva's desire for material things to make her look like a savior of the people. It's so good. And obviously Cerveris is PERFECT.
Yes yes yes! There js something SO raw about her performance and I think it is because of her being from Buenos Aires. She is the first to capture Eva as if she were the real deal. I love Elena for forever and a day.
@@lovertojackharkness not just the raw aspects of her performance. The subtlety, the manipulation. The emotion and vulnerability comes out too.
I can see Ms. Roger"s Eva making opponents disappear. I can see her love for her husband and feel her fear and uncertainty.
In short, she has done what no vocal artist has done for me. She made Eva Peron human.
I LOVED her in the role. Feral is a great word to describe that aspect of her performance. I saw it with a critic who loathed her. At intermission we were in a full blown argument. 😅
I absolutely love this video. I noticed Michael Cerveris messes up a line and covers SPECTACULARLY. The line is "please go on, you enthrall me" but he says "please go on, I implore you." I am amazed that he caught himself saying "I" instead of "you," fast enough to improv something.
AY - bloopers are the perils of live theater but he didn't miss a beat afterwards.

I love watching Elena dance and what she was able to do with this part as a classically trained ballerina! The staging of this production was just simply breathtaking from the set, costumes, choreography, and orchestration. I wish it lasted longer than a year at the Marquee Theater!
I strongly recommend your watching Eva Peron, an Argentinean movie from 1996. There you will find an actual Eva; that is what she was for millions of Argentines.
I hate that people didn’t appreciate Elena Roger’s during her time on stage - took people bullying her and years after to learn how amazing AND different her approach was!
When I was on the scene, the Tango really amazed me! Red dress and music, so gorgeous.

I think this is better than the damn film, which was very good.
You wanna know what always makes me giggle on this one? Michael's face. Like his facial expressions sometimes are just completely giggle worthy.

It wasn't there in the older versions (listen to Patty LuPone or Madonna).
OlliHazard these are new arrangements. more influenced by Latin culture. the original had a lot of saxa phone. this is definitely more string heavy.
I think this is better than the film version.

Too fast , this song is so sensual. It doesn’t have the same effect at this pace ....IMO
I think it's because different productions have different interpretations of the characters. Some make Eva seem more cold and calculating than others.
If you have Rachel Potter's performance as the mistress can you upload it please? Even if its only a few sung words :P
