  • This is Kuwait city's Sulaibiya graveyard, the world's largest tyre graveyard.
    In the last 17 years, more than 40 million vehicle tyres have been dumped here. These tyre mountains are so vast that they could be easily captured on satellite photos.

    In many cafes near my house they have seats made out of old junk tyres - painted over and decorated - not only does it look beautiful but also helps in recycling used tyres !!

      But there is a limit to using tyres as chairs brother. That cafe must have 10 chairs max. Where that is nothing compared to the mountain of tyres.

      Do not be fooled. The Kuwaitis are FAR from a "developing healthy country." Their recycling plants are in serious violations of so many health and safety factors.

    INDIA Already had a solution to it. Rubber recycling through Pyrolysis process. But it can be improvised to a great extent as well.

      Majority of the waste tyre is used for making rubber mats.. My father was working in this plant.

    I saw a documentry using shredded tyres mixed with asphalt to construct new highways! It improve grip and resist impacts.

      It's pretty good but there is an unintended consequence as the road undergoes frequent friction and use and hence this causes the rubber to be turned into extremely microscopic particles which can be extremely dangerous as it can get mixed in water or be inhaled by humans

    I highly appreciate KUWAIT.Even though they have shortage of land,they spared land for used tyres.

      There is no shortage of land in kuwait as compared to population to land ratio. Its a massive desert with fully developed coast line. Kuwait being an oil rich country is heavily automobiled. Extreme weather wears out tyres faster than usual.

    As an American, when I saw the title I spent a few seconds trying to figure out if this was the largest graveyard in Tyre, or if it was the world's largest graveyard of ancient, Phoenician city-states.

    I worked in Kuwait for 24 years as a teacher but the ministry of education deducted almost half my pension 4256 KD ( 14000 $) during resignation under the name of indebtness which I knew nothing about . And when I made a complaint they refused it verbally on the telephone .

    There is a video on RUclips that I saw recently in which they freeze the tyre using liquid and then shred it so that the tyres can be used again as rubber sheets... This can then be made into artificial grass and distributed to all the countries in the world where grounds can be redevelopment. This is not waste but raw material

    Stack them 3 high, 4 high or 5 and 6 high, then line the inside with garden mesh, then fill with fertiliser and compost and plant all kinds of plants/ vegetables in them. 😁👌
    ( and water as required ). Could create a HUGE PLANT NURSERY made of tyres.

    They can be melted down and the liquid can be refined into fuels and other useful products much the same way we refine crude oil.
    The steel is easily recycled also.
    It's all down to a willingness...

    Remove tyres from cars in the city and transport tyres miles away to be dumped in the desert. Then remove tyres from the desert and transport them back to the city to be recycled. Genius.
