Sadly, AI generated imagery was something predicting in the 1930s in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Except it went beyond just images but also into interactive pornography.
As far as deviant art is concerned, I find the latinized "icons" that seem to be popular on that website to be repulsive and I find it a bit disturbing that they are not only financially profiting from the sale of such things but also that people venerate such artwork that is in no way consistent with the typology of iconography that was defended in the first millennium of Christianity and most notably at the 7th acumenical Council. We literally celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy in commemoration of the significance and magnitude of how important this sacred iconography is and by not only creating something that is a counterfeit of that but also seeking to profit as a result off of said counterfeit not only grave in error but also in leading others into deception and delusion.
@@barone1865actual iconography that conforms to actual iconographic standards it's not inherently bad or wrong even if it comes from a western source. What I am referring to is art that claims to be iconography, which is clearly not, it is in fact grotesque in style and not worthy of veneration. Art is art and iconography is iconography and I take issue with anyone who seeks to conflate or confuse the two especially when they're doing it specifically for profit. I remember the artist who created what I am referring to leaving a comment about how there is not much information known on Saint Moses the Black, if they cannot source adequate information on that saint (of which there is an abundance of) I would be concerned about their ability to find actual legitimate information on authentic iconography.
You have no idea how much work the artists are putting into their fancy fancy prompts. In fact I've seen artists having their prompts stolen! Can you imagine? Making someone else's hard work into some easy money grab? Who would do that?
They're selling the idea that writing AI scripts or prompts is a skill so writing a prompt to describe a graphic image and get what a customer would want, is still a skill because of kinks and such. But this still over floods markets with skill lessly created marketing tools. Which is all the system wants. Little salespeople. Flooding art mediums for the groomers and pushers.
Agreed that AI cannot be art. I think the same is true of CGI. I think art requires both skill & inspiration. Which is why, though much of modern art is exactly as you describe, this generalization doesn't apply to all modern art. The skill of translating inspiration into a medium is a thing in itself -- as all creatives know. As a child, (1970s) I loved much of the art at the Hirshhorn Gallery (DC) & it was authentically creative & innovative. In recent years, the modern art uplifted in the press/media tends to be more as you describe, in my opinion.

I remember when Muzak and programmable drum machines were a threat to musicians. It actually was a dark period. My drummer-hubby to this day can pick them out in one measure and he scoffs and blusters even at background music in Walmart. 😂But the technology has not ultimately replaced real musicians playing real instruments or the thrill and creativity of live music. So take heart, my friend, and never stop working at your craft. 🤎
AI generated imagery might also make churches one of the only places to find real art anymore besides art museums..

Western iconography isn’t that bad, and there isn’t anything against the use of Western-style icons.
