I listen to 7P every day. Have so for more than a year. He is so brave to present such a song on a New Years Gala. Happy New Year...... Shut up!!!! When it comes to Hua Chenyus compositions the music always comes first, lyrics second. The lyrics are there to express the emotion of the music, together with the vocal instrument. If that makes sense... The poetic lyrics are rooted in buddhist and tao mythology and imagery. The concept of 7 personalities you will also find in buddhism. I myself has a buddhist understanding of this song, others see it differently. Isnt that wonderful?

I think you spot on at the end when you said you need to switch your personality in different life situation. As I remember Hua explained before he sang this song in his concert, that people have different personalities and they normally balanced, like in certain circumstance this one shows and sometimes other. If one personality shows too much and out of your control, that means something is wrong with you.

When I saw the notification I almost jumped up my chair! I have been waiting for so long for this reaction and Fil, you didn't disappoint - love the way you perceive music! Hua's New World album is an album about the "great love", a general love that he feels it should be brought to public attention (love for the environment, love for all humanity and most importantly love for yourself). Depression is another important subject he touches on this album and I feel that Seven personalities is portraying very accurately and in the right sequence ones journey through depression: (1)feeling like a lost child, (2)delusional/numb, (3) a peace moment aquired through meditation, (4)rebelious and wanting to break free, (5)trying to accept and face the hardships of this life that leads to a (6)very deep depression caused by an intense sadness (all black, stars crashed) just to finish in (7)EXTREME anguish (the intense screams and madman gestures). In my opinion, Hua Chenyu is the only artist whose music is the exact sound of LIFE - good and bad, beautiful and gore, exciting and boring, fells like heaven or feels like hell - but definitely worth experiencing at its fullest. You should check out his trilogy:"I really want to love this world", "Madhouse" and "Conversations with the Martian Child" as Seven Personalities is kind of the 4th song that sums up the trilogy.

i feel like the most recurring theme in Hua Hua's music, including songs he chooses to cover, is the recognition or fight for self control versus fate. it's such a classic theme. I don't think he takes a simple view of this; it's not binary, free will or fate, but requires an active choice on one's part to wrest control of ones own life within the strong current of what has come before us, and what would otherwise sweep us in their stream. I think this "making one's own destiny" is almost something Hua Hua preaches in his music and by example, and it's beautiful.

The song was written after the death of the singer/actor, Leslie Cheung, who took his own life, someone Hua Hua admired very much. The song was a challenge from his fans to sing it. It's a difficult song, as it is in Cantonese and he speaks Mandarin. I get goosebumps listening to him sing it. I feel that not only was this song written for L Cheung, but I see elements of Hua Chenyu in the song because of how he grew up. Love to you and your family!

If every Self is a universe, it can be complete and wholesome only with 7 orientations of personalities. According to Chinese folklore, the dead soul will return on the 7th night after death. She has an excellent vocal instrument, but nothing unique; nothing unique in range, in texture, in color, in dynamics. I say this without unkindness, but there are a million other singers on Broadway and elsewhere who can deliver vocals and this song just as well or better.....JJ can be replaced by another singer of equal ability of which there are a great many. HUA however, and Dimash can not be replaced. There is NO ONE like HUA. He is a total ORIGINAL (yes he's had his influences, but he has made his own unique style and sound from those inspirations). HUA and DQ bring a whole new experience of vocal, emotional, and performance dynamics in terms of presentation, use of vocal sounds, genuine soul felt and soul deep raw expression, and a completely new and fresh, NEVER BEFORE way of singing their songs. When Dimash or HUA covers a song, it sounds like a BRAND NEW SONG....as if we have NEVER heard it before. And their covers are FAR BETTER THAN THE ORIGINALS!! JJ is very good, very deserving of her accomplishments, but there is nothing really new or ground breaking or artistically better in her covers or any other area of her singing and performance. She is doing what has ALREADY been done MANY TIMES before. Her emotional and vocal sound dynamics are redundant, PREDICTABLE, expected with ZERO SURPRISES. With DQ and HUA we are continually and wonderfully surprised by the unexpected!! She paints a landscape maybe just slightly different than it's been painted before. I actually think it is the best version presentationwise and soundwise! In the Mars-Concert-version and the singer version I think it is a bit overdone especially the clothing. :) But as always opinions are different. Have a nice day!

With no disrespect, without any unkindness intended, I say again as I wrote in my comments on the first song, there is not much that is original or new here in this song or in MHWGO in terms of her vocal dynamics, her presentation, or in her emotional delivery. She has an excellent vocal instrument, but nothing unique; nothing unique in range, in texture, in color, in dynamics. Her vocal and emotional dynamics stay pretty much the same thru out these songs; or said another way, she stays in a very narrow range from top to bottom emotionally and vocally in terms of dynamics. I say this without unkindness, but there are a million other singers on Broadway and elsewhere who can deliver vocals and this song just as well or better.....JJ can be replaced by another singer of equal ability of which there are a great many. HUA however, and Dimash can not be replaced. There is NO ONE like HUA. He is a total ORIGINAL (yes he's had his influences, but he has made his own unique style and sound from those inspirations). HUA and DQ bring a whole new experience of vocal, emotional, and performance dynamics in terms of presentation, use of vocal sounds, genuine soul felt and soul deep raw expression, and a completely new and fresh, NEVER BEFORE way of singing their songs. When Dimash or HUA covers a song, it sounds like a BRAND NEW SONG....as if we have NEVER heard it before. And their covers are FAR BETTER THAN THE ORIGINALS!! JJ is very good, very deserving of her accomplishments, but there is nothing really new or ground breaking or artistically better in her covers or any other area of her singing and performance. She is doing what has ALREADY been done MANY TIMES before. Her emotional and vocal sound dynamics are redundant, PREDICTABLE, expected with ZERO SURPRISES. With DQ and HUA we are continually and wonderfully surprised by the unexpected!! She paints a landscape maybe just slightly different than it's been painted before. HUA paints in way that takes us to a WHOLE NEW DIMENSION OF SIGHT, SOUND, COLOR, TEXTURE AND SOUL DEEP FEELING!!!!! HUA LIVES THE EMOTION AND IS THE SONG ITSELF. JJ sings ABOUT the feeling, it's not the same. I guess a traditional singer is what wins. Wishing them all great success. but I am gratified to know that HUA won the SINGER comp in 2020.....HE IS SO DESERVING!!! '

but this is again a HUA'S MASTER PIECE.
I actually think it is the best version presentationwise and soundwise! In the Mars-Concert-version and the singer version I think it is a bit overdone especially the clothing. :) But as always opinions are different. Have a nice day!

but the 3 versions of the 3 days Mars concert were spectacular because his "energy" is always different during his Mars concert,. And especially this one, after all the turmoil of the shift of venue at the last minut.....
Anyways, we agree., HUA IS SO EXCEPTIONAL, it is difficult to put words....
