    I first learned with wood in the 70's and that was the last time I used them. Last year I was told by all the "traditionalist" that I should be shooting wood and they almost had me. Then I went to ETAR and on every course all I saw was broken wooden arrows! Not talking just a few, but in the hundreds! Quite happy with my carbons. I love my GT Hunters, same reason as you, tough and they are a workhorse. Love your videos, keep it up!

    The Axis is still my favorite overall arrow. Even though the insert can be a pain to install correctly. Jim, You have come a long way! Not that these early videos are not fantastic. FWIW. One can't go wrong with the Gold tips or the Black eagle instinct micro diameter or the ............ :-) Lots of good carbon these days

    If you gave up wood arrows, the you are not using a compound bow, as I was told not to use wood arrows in such a bow! So, yeah, carbon would be good in both compound (definitely) and recurve, bows!
    I have some older aluminum arrows with 5 inch feathers,and really like them in my old "Bear" compound bow! I will look into getting some of those! Thanks
    If that is a stuffed rabbit behind you, they sure grow big in England!!!!

    What's your opinion on the gold tip classic XT shafts that are a smaller diameter but thicker walled? Tougher, better than the gold tip traditionals? I figured you're the man to ask out of anyone.

    • @ArcheryAdventures
      @ArcheryAdventures  5 лет назад +1

      k w if it’s the ones I’m thinking off they are a 9/32 diameter, and they are great tough little arrow they even come with a ballisticcollar system that makes them really solid!
      Hope that helps buddy?

    hey jim, great video! but im just wondering if you would have any recommendation on the best balance between cost and performance for someone like myself just properly getting into trad archery, (i dont really fancy blowing 200 bucks on a dozen arrows im probably going to break shooting trees)
    any help at all is appreciated!; and just on a side note i have recently subscribed and am loving the channel, i'll definitely be staying tuned! (:

      Thanks so much for watching... As for arrows as long as they are the right spine and are straight you can shoot anything. Most archery shops will sell budget arrows... Hope that helps. Take care!

    Jim, I know you don't like to compete that much, but you mention using the carbons for 3d's. Do you think you can be competitive against barebows (NFAS classification)?

    • @ArcheryAdventures
      @ArcheryAdventures  10 лет назад +4

      Hi +Jason Barrow,
      I see what you mean, (for those that don't know) bearbow tend to be metal riser's with weights, pressures buttons and rather fancy arrows... But on a good day I can give em a good run for their money ;)
      I've done GNAS frostbite's and Portsmouth's against barebow and Olympic style recurve and tend hold my own... (Still only on a good day ;)
      But to be honest, I just love to shoot, scoring and competitions have never really been my bag...
      Thanks for getting in touch
      Jim

    What type of feathers do you have on the easton trad?

  • @fengyink
    @fengyink 3 года назад

    Have both, 500 spine, 34 lb recurve finger release. Easton uses 175 gr insert plus point. Gold tip uses 141 grain insert plus point. Gap shooter (was string walker). Easton was heavier, faster after 15 yard, more penetrating, better grouping (for me) at 20/30/40 yards. After running a 28 target-trail for months, only have 5 gold tip left (out of a dozen). Will stick ti easton once I run down to 3. Made 2 dozens of easton. Gold tip does have a thicker coating, refletching twice without reaching the carbon yet.

    i have the gold tip traditionals, mybe not as tough as the timber sticks, but tougher than the axis, not aspretty as the axis, but prettier than the timbers. Feels like good middle ground (:

    • @mknight6556

      You should be more concerned about the arrows performance rather than how pretty they are. That being said, you can't beat a lacquered up cedar arrow for sheer beauty.

    • @abot19
      @abot19 8 лет назад +2

      +foxtrot45 Personally I like a heavy arrow, reason i switched to carbon is that I can still have a heavy arrow but focus more to the tip. same overall weight but more focused energy transfer on target.

      My first real arrows were some aluminum arrows. I don't have a single one left that's straight. That's why I've never touched aluminum again. They bend so easily.

    Why does he have such huge feathers - when in fact - I assume - he perfectly tuned the arrows to fly straight anyway?

    • @tw8245
      @tw8245 7 лет назад +3

      Looks good, easier to catch on camera, and he doesnt do much long range so it corrects the arrow in flight quicker. A lot of reasons, and like i said they look damn sexy.
