ah miss north carolina, now thats a lady that does it all, can handle farm work, and save lives for real, but also dances strong but soft, that brings a smile to my face and its what we used to be here in the states but seem to have lost it sometime last decade, though old skills are coming back but not like it was and she dances soo nicely
I read a book about Nicole Johnson (her life, journey with Type 1 Diabetes since age 19, and onto winning this competition. It was encouraging to me as a fellow Type 1 Diabetic.
The judges probably thought that Florida was waaaay too sexy to win...she should have competed at USA. Miss NC was probably the most solid in every area but VA won with the platform issue.
I was there most of the week. There were a lot of ppl saying that FL was not the most popular contestant among the group. If or how that factored into judging I don't know. I met FL myself during visitation and she was very nice.
I remember watching this live and being amazed by Florida. I don't understand Miss America's judging criteria. It's like they are almost afraid to have winners that are too beautiful.
Miss North Carolina is one of the most solid contenders I’ve seen. Even with the mistakes (e.g. she had to be stopped in her interview), it was clear she was going to be in the finale.
Not only that, but while wearing that tasteless choice of a top. If she wants to push that platform to win, she'd have been far better convincing of her point by wearing something conservative, similar to Miss Utah's for one example. But wearing a bikini-like top with THAT much midriff exposure and yes, talking about wanting to encourage youth to postpone their sexual activities? For me, IMHO, it was FAR less creepy about the wink. If you've seen these pageants, up to this point, never has a contestant worn such a small top separate in the parade of states prior to this; add that to what she then expressed her platform to be, and I'm like ...... what..?????
