Must Visit Ninh Binh VIETNAM - Van Long Nature Reserve

- We spent 5 amazing days in Ninh Binh and found one of the most beautiful places we have ever come across. So much peacefulness and tranquility, Ninh Binh was spectacular in our eyes.
For our first stop, we visited Cuc Phuong National Park located in Ninh Binh province. Here we checked out a monkey and turtle rescue center to learn all about the animals from our guide that worked at the rescue center.
Cuc Phuong National Park - Endangered Primate Rescue Center
Address: đường rừng Cúc Phương, Cúc Phương, Nho Quan, Ninh Bình, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30-11:30am, 1:30-4:30pm
We then set out to go on a hike to visit a 1,000 year old ancient tree although only one of us makes the journey!

Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am-6pm
So where is the most beautiful place in Ninh Binh, Vietnam? We reckon it's Van Long Nature Reserve. We sat in awe during what we felt was the most beautiful destination of our entire Vietnam trip. Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve was more peaceful than the already awesome Trang An but with the same special breath taking beauty and more wildlife. Van Long was a simply magical destination and a must visit in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
The next day we headed over to the more touristy area Tam Coc and opted to skip the rowboat ride there since we heard it was less enjoyable from a few sources including our own tour guide consultant.
Instead we had lunch at a popular lunch spot - Family Restaurant to get some energy for our final adventure (Thung Nam Bird Park).

For our final destination we headed over to Thung Nham Bird Park. Entry prices were a little steep comparatively to other tourist activities at 200,000 vietnamese dong however the bird park was very large and well kept. Definitely recommend taking a bicycle over there rather than a scooter so you can cycle around Thung Nham Bird Park and enjoy exploring the sights. Scooters have to be left at the entrance but bicycles can go inside the park.

Our private tour operator during our stay in Ninh Binh was Tommy’s Travel Service. Tommy is a Ninh Binh local unlike many of the other Ninh Binh tour operators and he organized an awesome tailored schedule for us. Our driver was the kind Mr. Ha. If you're planning to visit Ninh Binh Vietnam, we highly recommend Tommy's Travel Service. He's a really nice guy too.

Haha they're too erratic and fragile looking plus I'm pretty sure it's because when I was little kid, I was fascinated by bugs and insects, caterpillars and butterflies included. Found it amazing that they metamorphosized and so when my teacher took one in as like a class "pet" I waited eagerly everyday, checking in on it every morning to see it transform then one day I got into class early and the chrysalis was finally open but no butterfly. I looked down on the ground (the jar it was in sat on a shelf ledge) and the butterfly was a wet dead mess on the floor! 😟 From then I don't think I've ever liked butterflies 😅
Yen is scared of 🦋 and Peter loves 🐢 - got it!
Hahah I'm scared of a lot of insects but butterflies are right up there 😅 Peter loves animals ☺️ they're definitely much cuter than butterflies 😂

We did that boat tour too! I wanted to swim in those lakes. Those rowning ladies get a pretty good work out. Great that u got that drone up!
Nice! Van Long is so pretty. Those rowers are amazing, non stop rowing pretty much in that crazy Vietnamese heat! Def props to them 👍👍 luckily our this ride was a really pleasant temperature!

Bicycles were def way better for that national park especially.. all these guys on their scooters that had to leave em at the gate were looking pretty envious when we cycled right in with our bikes lol.. the place is really big so def cover ground way better on a bicycle there especially! Great work out too 😂 Did something like 20 odd kms that afternoon!

This was so epic guys. You brought back so many amazing memories for us. This will always always always be my favorite place in Vietnam and possibly on Earth haha. If you ever go back there I really do recommend renting out a motorbike and going to all these places on your own. Because the roads are so empty and wide it's a lot safer than in the city and honestly some of our best memories in Ninh Binh were just cruising around on the motorbike and taking in the sights and stopping every 5 minutes to take a picture of something cool. Amazing video guys
Thanks guys glad this video was able to bring back some happy memories. We enjoyed Vietnam so much we're thinking about going back for round two next year. We only rode motorbikes a couple of times this time around. Mainly cause I'm horrible at navigating hahaha. Somehow this half year if travel have done wonders for my sense of direction so will need to do more biking in the future.

Hey Yen, do you consider getting the motion sickness pills from pharmacies? I too get motion sickness easily (except planes), that might help especially when we have to travel, so I always have them with me. -Sue
Thanks Sue! ❤️ I've tried a lot of things including the motion sickness pills but maybe I just haven't found one that works well for me unfortunately! I get it the worst on planes, but cars, boats, trains, buses they pretty much all affect me when they're too bumpy or sways too much lol 😅

Hahaha ahh true Peter said maybe it was and I'm thinking maybe amplified sound being inside the tree or something 😅 Those suckers can get pretty darn loud in NZ so can imagine in the jungle they're even more ferocious lol 😅 That would've freaked me out too but I failed at butterfly stage so... 😂
What was Peter using to film to find the tree?
He used our GoPro for the walk to the tree, then the tree itself with our Canon 80D 🙂
Oh wow the go pro looked so clear and the stabilization was good. I finally bought mine right before Bali. Thanks for the info on it a while back. I hardly use the dang thing tho smh
We hardly use it too to be honest but our main cam is a two person operation. The image quality is ok in nature but if you go into buildings it's no good 😅 plus the mic is pretty bad with a lot of things going on.
What a fantastic place!!! Why is Yen so afraid of the such delicate creatures? Id eat that park up. Is there any camping allowed there?
Hahah I'm pretty sure it's because when I was little kid, I was fascinated by bugs and insects, caterpillars and butterflies included. Found it amazing that they metamorphosized and so when my teacher took one in as like a class "pet" I waited eagerly everyday, checking in on it every morning to see it transform then one day I got into class early and the chrysalis was finally open but no butterfly. I looked down on the ground (the jar it was in sat on a shelf ledge) and the butterfly was a wet dead mess on the floor! 😟 From then I don't think I've ever liked butterflies 😅 Not sure if camping is allowed at that national park, can totally imagine you'd enjoy it though Jungle Jay 🙂
Fair enough, when I say I love Butterflies people look at me like "???" I always reply, Real Men Love Butterflies! LOL

Hello cold monsoon along the central coast occurs from Oct-Apr and is much less pleasant. Oct-Dec are warm, sunny months in the north; from March it is unbearably hot. May, June and September are the best times to visit Vietnam to avoid the crowds.
