in taht case understand that Jesus was just a vessel of God, but worthy. they lie too like Vatican.
and i never fasted in my life but still God used me for rapture (and we dont have a word for it in Orthodox church btw).
still, church is as good as the peoples are. unlike vatican, otrhodox chruch by definition is consisted of people and church, so if people say something is out its out.

My wife and I are to be received into the Holy Orthodox Church this upcoming Holy Saturday. As I listened to Father's words I began to weep yet again at how our Glorious and Compassionate Lord could call to a man like me and lead me into this miraculous and overwhelming beauty of a life renewed and restored. Bless you Fr. Timothy for your kindness and gentleness, and my prayer is that all mankind come to know Christ in His Holy Spirit. Repentance is the beautiful path, the Way! Blessed Lent to all of us. Lord Jesus Christ Have Mercy on us and save us, amen!

Orthodox fasting is less about the food but more about committing to God and controlling our passions. Praying more, Being sober minded, controlling our thoughts and making our thoughts obedient to Christ. the fasting is a method of training so to speak to assist us in our prayers and behaviour. Fasting does not qualify us, fasting is for us to gain self control. As Fr. Timothy here explains superbly that the food rules are not hard but a guide. Being sober minded so that we can focus our love on Him and to fill our heart with love as God is the author of love. Good fast my Orthodox brothers and sisters.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me and save me a sinner.

I am no teaching authority but I would point to this scripture, the two passages have to harmonize somehow with eachother.
      1 John 1:8-10 ESV
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Father Timothy was absolutely right on saying that we focus on the food and lose the purpose. However, fasting has also some actual effects on the body that help the soul. Fasting stresses out the body, which in turn humbles the soul. Whenever our body is suffering, our soul is getting humbler. Thus monks devote their life on three things: 1. Worshipping God, 2. Studying spiritual books and the bible, 3. Manual labor. When fasting, our body gets thinner, both literally and metaphorically speaking, so it is easier for the spirit to get elevated and come closer to God. Last, abstaining from certain foods or eating habits, helps with the all sinful tendencies the body has. The Christian Orthodox Faith and the way we worship our Lord and live our life with him in the center is so wisely built. I am always in owe with all the answers behind my “whys” when I am trying to learn and understand how everything works, why we do this or that, etc.

This is why i left the protestants and became Orthodox. Lord have mercy...
Grew up protestant and always felt like I was missing something. Like I went thru the drive thru and something was missing with my order. One day, I read Matt 16:18. This time I questioned, Church, what did Jesus mean by Church. So I asked God to show me what Church did Jesus build? I began searching Church history and found the Orthodox Church. I found St. Barbara's Orthodox Church and decided to go. I'll confess, my first time was shocking coming from a protestant background. I went back that following Sunday and divorced myself of everything that I thought was Church. I asked the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to me. Then my eyes and my heart knew that I had found the one true church.

I am also a Protestant looking into Orthodoxy. At first I was on the fence, as I was always taught Catholics worship saints and have idols. I assumed Orthodoxy was just another form of Catholicism (I never even knew what Orthodoxy was until a few months ago as in my culture, Hispanic, Orthodoxy is not really a thing. You're either Catholic, Protestant, or athiest). I began really reading and studying my Bible. (As a Protestant I was always taught that the Bible is the ultimate authority.) Verses such as John 20:23, James 5:16, and Revelation 8:4, really opened my eyes and I began questioning my own faith and if my entire life has been a lie. I began studying Church history and reading about the early church fathers, and I realized, how can Protestantism be a continuation of the true Church it it only began in the 16th century? Where is the original Church that Christ's apostles had founded? That gave me two options, the Catholic Church or the Eastern Orthodox Church. I realized it can't be the Catholic Church since they split from the communion of churches and have had many heresies in their history such as Papal infallibilty. This Sunday I will be attending my local Orthodox parish, a Russian Orthodox Church.

It’s amazing to see all of you have by followed the same path. I was raised Protestant and I feel like it swayed my focus away from Jesus Christ. I was always concerned with God and the Old Testament I think. And orthodox showed me to go back to the heart of Christ and everything He is. And I feel like I finally found the missing piece - Jesus. Plus the art is absolutely amazing. Still learning. But loving every bit of it AND Jesus of Nazareth.

I haven’t been to church since I was like 13 and I’m 33 now with a wife who has never been baptized and 4 kids who have never been baptized nor chrismated. I grew up Protestant and I truly believe the Holy Spirit has been pushing me to Orthodoxy. I can’t explain it any other way. I went to my first Divine Liturgy this last Sunday and everyone around my wife and kids and I were so genuine and nice and non-judgmental. Including the Father. It was so welcoming and warm and filled my heart up so much with the love of Jesus Christ. I truly found my home and I can’t wait to go through Catechism classes and for all my family to be chrismated and baptized around Easter next year. Thank you God for your persistence to push me towards salvation for not just me but for my kids and my wife. ☦️

I have prayed to God to show me the right church for me, because I have a friend who is trying to get me into her church which is non-denominational I think. When we were studying the Bible, she was asking me are you saved and I said I am not Jesus Christ I can't know who is saved or not. That moment I released that sounds a bit of a brain washing than a church. I am baptized Orthodox Christian, however my family was not very active in the church life growing up. Also a lot of time they were criticizing the Orthodox Church, coming from Catholic background not knowing anything about Orthodoxy, which for me was not Christ like. We as Christians love to judge each other and to divide ourselves, but I don't think that is the will of Our Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for the amazing words, Father Timothy the pints that you have made were all that I needed to know. God bless you!

The beautiful artwork are called icons. If you are interested in Orthdoxy, look online to see if there are any Eastern Orthodox churches in your area. I don’t know where you live, but in the U.S. there might be a Greek Orthodox, Antiochian Orthdoox, or OCA (Orthodox Church in America). Speak to the priest of the local church about your interest. Start attending services and start reading and learning. Ancient Faith Ministries would be a good app to download. I hope this helps.

Forgive me but that’s not what he said or teaches. He teaches that we can not judge people’s salvation outside the church. That’s not our job and we don’t know what happens to Protestants and Catholics. Are job is just to tell them to be orthodox. We don’t believe there are “Christians” outside of the church. We only call Catholics and Protestants “Christians” loosely because they call themselves Christians and trinitarians or what some of us say is “beginning Christians” because they are ignorant of the fullness of the truth but they have part of the truth correct. This is what we teach and what Fr.Timothy teaches, I know this because Ive sat down with him and have a long convo with him. We are very firm on our beliefs and dogmas and are very much against ecumenism.

    Colossians 1 About Jesus:
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
    19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
    1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not burdensome.
    Rev 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
    THE TEN COMMANDMENTS….
1- THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME
2- THOU SHALT NOT MAKE UNTO THEE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE
3- THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THY GOD IN VAIN
4- REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY
5- HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER
    6- THOU SHALT NOT KILL
7- THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY
    8- THOU SHALT NOT STEAL
9- THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOURS
    10- THOU SHALT NOT COVET
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Hebrews10:26-31- For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!!..
These few verses unmask deception and reveal idolatry:
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them. SO DO ALL WHO TRUST IN THEM. Psalm 135:15-18
    Deuteronomy 4:16
that you do not act corruptly and make an idol for yourselves of any form or shape, whether in the likeness of a male or female,
    Jeremiah 7:18-19 KJV
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the ¨queen of heaven¨, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
Mary and saint worship, Mary the mediatrix and queen of heaven? God cleary told us Jesus is the ONLY mediator between God and mankind. Whoever else you use as mediator or pray to is IDOLATRY.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.
Saints dont intermediate and dont listen to prayers, they are dead people like you and me, made of flesh and they died, Mary also is one of them, she was a normal woman who gave birth to Jesus and she and other people may not be worshipped.
God declared the dead as the following:
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. 6Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun.
If the dead are alive somewhere... then who are the ones Christ will resurrect at his arrival?
*Second commandment (Ex 20:4): Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, ...*
this includes rosary necklaces, Mary and saint statues, Jesus, Mary and saint images, crosses, 'holy relics' and many more items used in worship by most denominations. People bow down before these things, kiss them, pray with them and that is wrong.
Christ is the mediator we pray towards, close the door and pray to him honestly without any items or images, he is the living God and does not share his glory with manmade things.
It is time to return to the old Hebraic faith of Jesus (Yeshua) and do what he did (obey the Fathers commandments and laws). There was no Catholic church or hundreds of denominations each with their own views and opinions back in the days of Jesus and the prophets. Believers had the old testament back then, which is the foundation of all scripture and the key to understand the new testament. Most Cathechism practices like rosary prayers etc are just invented in the 16th century.. first pope existed in 538ad and not in the apostles their days. those things got nothing to do with Jesus, its the traditions and vanities of religious men who went far astray from the Fathers commands.
    Matt 7:22
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’…
    Berean Standard Bible
Only those who obey Gods commandments will enter the kingdom, there is a large familiar group of people who think they please Jesus but obviously they will be rejected by Him because they denied the commandments.

Paradise was closed off from mankind and death and corruption was through the entire cosmos. Everyone before Christ was in Hades. But he conquered death by death through his resurrection. This is why he had to die on a cross and why he resurrected. For Satan has the keys to death. By now Christ has conquered and sanctified the entire cosmos and united and provided a way for healing for man by his incarnation, baptism, life and teachings, death, resurrection, ascension, and Pentecost. This is the Gospel.

Is Lent Really in the Bible?
Lent is not mentioned in the Bible, but rather started in the fourth century AD. Even though there is no explicit evidence of Lent in Scripture, many believers have tried to argue that Lent is based on Jesus’ temptation in the desert for 40 days.
The 40 days before Easter is a preparation time known as Lent. During these 40 days, people in Protestant, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox traditions choose to give up something (a certain food or activity) in the form of fasting.
Many Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches also follow Lenten dietary rules during this time. The goal of Lent is to grow closer to the Lord as one prepares for the anniversary of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Even though many Christians cherish the Lenten season, the specific observation of Lent is not mentioned in the Bible. Some believers have tried to point to different examples in the Bible as the basis for Lent, but there is no explicit evidence of Lent in Scripture.
Furthermore, there are no commands for Christians in the Bible regarding mandatory fasting or dietary rules. Such acts are based purely on church and man-made tradition.
However, each Christian can choose whether to celebrate the Lenten season, remembering that certain activities and rituals do not gain God’s favor or grace.

It has nothing to do with Orthodox Christianity. Further, it dishonors Christ and glorifies His enemies as more powerful. I challenge you to attend Orthodox services of Lent and tell us then it has nothing to do with Jesus as Messiah. I’ve been a student of the Scriptures for decades, and I can assure you traditional Christian Lent has absolutely everything to do with Jesus Christ and nothing else. Orthodox don't celebrate Easter; we celebrate Pascha, which is Greek for Passover. Lent is not pagan but has its roots in Jewish fasting, which Christ himself practiced. The 40 days primarily come from Christ's own 40-day fast in the desert.
