You guys are so diversified in using low cost, environmentally and energy efficient focused building techniques. I've really enjoyed your progress. What an adventure.🤟
Now I'm getting excited about the straw bales! I hope the rain doesn't prevent you from getting them set up, it'll be interesting to see this type of wall and how you'll make it all work ❤
Great progress! Glad to hear you're back in action, Jim! Probably like you, I'm really looking forward to seeing the bale walls which will enclose the house. Thanks for the update on the dome temperature. It seems well on its way to stabilizing. It could take as many as three years to reach it truly stable null point. There is a lot of mass involved, the most significant being the floor on the lower level. Plus, you're adding all ot that adobe and that, as you know, is heavy. I'm guessing the bedroom is still the coolest part of the house atm. It's so nice to see the dome evolving into your home!
Excellent progress on the house! Rain is always a good thing out there but let’s hope it waits to sprinkle until the bales are under cover. That cell booster worked like a charm. 👍
Jim if you are borrowing the tractor to unload the bales, get a box blade so you can smooth out the ground around your yard, ( it goes on the back)next time it could be a broken ankle.
Always look forward to your uploads and the progress is really coming along! Some people don’t see it but it’s one of those things where it all comes together really quick in the end and it’s suddenly done since all the hard work/planning was done in advance!
I just wanted to say how impressed I am with you guys; thanks for the inspiration! i've been following since before we moved to Cochise ourselves in June 2023, and have done quite a bit of infrastructure ourselves, but not ground-up like you It's also great to see your ankle doing better.
We're right at the end of an unprecedented heatwave and drought in Oklahoma followed by tornadoes and flooding to start November. Watching weather radar the last few days, it looked like the monsoon was starting to churn over Arizona. Hope your straw bale delivery doesn't coincidence with rain.
I hope you covered all OSB board (floor?) to prevent it from being destroyed if rained on. Your metal roof doesn't have gutters yet, so you may have to protect the bags on the ground underneath. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...
Have you considered hiring someone part time to help? The sooner your dome is completed the less deterioration you’ll have. You guys are doing a great job, but it looks like you could use some extra help.
@dancingwithbears9015 I am right there with you, girlfriend... but, sometimes there are those who will help. Asking for help is the hard part...sending you love, and strength, sister...🩵💜🩵
Perhaps they don’t hire help because they don’t have the additional resources to pay someone. I’ve not watched long enough to know if either Jim or Jess work for an employer, or if their RUclips channel is their only source of income.
@@lucymorgan8859 I learned 20 yrs ago to speak up. I have begged the last few years. No help. (I am not too proud to ask for help) There are fewer and fewer kind souls. Everyone has their own problems and I am in the boonies 🤣
Brother I started out internet wise the same as you. We went to starlink ( 299$ ) and will never look back the monthly cost is 120$ but soo worth it. Also only 120 watts ( we too are off grid) we no longer count every watt hour ( 4k solar array and 2 BMW I3 batteries for 24KWH of usable electricity, lord knows I need to make a video on it), but after so many other internet company's throttling us for the amount of up and download.. starlink is amazing.
Is there a reason to switch from soil blocks to straw bales.....experimenting with an alternative method vs better insulation or function for what you'll be using this section?
I enjoy your videos, but was wondering why the rest of the roof ton the house isn't complete also. Plus am wondering what the bale walls are going to look like? Am also wondering how you are going to preserve them from rotting or mildew?
if inwere you id get blood panel done, you don't know what could be making it past your filters from the rain water, I just found out im always tired cuz my hermitocrat is low and calcium high
Just curious, why isn’t the roofing being completed first to provide more protection for the straw bales. Isn’t that the first line of defense against the elements?
Id have thought finishing the dome before starting an additional phase would have made more sense. Dunno, hope it goes well. Just seems you dont finish anyrhing you start. , srill enjoy watching and supporting... But come on finish a project before moving on..
They are right about not using cement. The rigidity of concrete during the building's natural movement is a risk for microfissures leading to microfiltrations you might not even spot and that could destabilize the dome wall. Lime on the other hand is flexible so does not have that problem when mixed with vegetable matter and or animal hair. Many videos around.
Wax, linseed oil, and mineral spirits can be used together in a variety of ways, including: Wood finishing Linseed oil can be mixed with mineral spirits or citrus solvent to thin it out and help it penetrate wood more deeply. You can also mix linseed oil with beeswax and mineral spirits to create a paste wax that can be used to finish wood. Preserving wood A mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits can be used to preserve wood, especially in log homes. The oil darkens the wood, and adding more mineral spirits can reduce the darkening. The mixture needs to be reapplied every year or two. ruclips.net/video/BdZnq1PvKXQ/видео.html
That sucks having to re cob your house, every time it freaking rain. THOSE BAILs OF HAY ARE USLESS ! Great for rats, mice, spiders, snakes and things YOUR FIRED DUDE
Why do you have a huge cage for the dog in the dome? I have seen the same in another american video. Is it some type of law ? Good luck with everything.
This first house building...is the slowest process I've ever seen.. can't believe this has been going on for years... applying a very small amount of mud at a time is ridiculous...this will take you another 10 years before the house is finished...
I know you don’t really like cement but why not make mixture of cement and sand and seal the dome. Sorry to say it but it seems time wasted fixing it after every rain.
Good to see Jess feeling better and up to the challenges of building a homestead
Getting your bales is the last straw!😂❤
You two are such a needed, wonderful break from all the politics…24/7. Thanks, I REALLY appreciate it.
You guys are so diversified in using low cost, environmentally and energy efficient focused building techniques. I've really enjoyed your progress. What an adventure.🤟
Y'all are getting things done. Love how you work together.
Now I'm getting excited about the straw bales! I hope the rain doesn't prevent you from getting them set up, it'll be interesting to see this type of wall and how you'll make it all work ❤
Looking forward to seeing how you are going to incorporate the straw bales into the walls. Great video
Hoping for no rain that day can't wait to see it thank you both.
Nice to see you starting to get ready to move into the dome. You guys should be living in your new home in no time ................................>
So much for giving the Big Black Pecker a real name.
😂😂😂😂
You guys are progresing great !! Not an easy job but you are steady!!
Add white Mexican cement to your cobb mix. It will make it much more resilient and last for decades.
Hey Jim how you doing today looks like you guys are doing a good job keep up the good work just be careful up there God bless you guys❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤TY for the VIDEO 👍✌😊
Great progress!

Thats good news (doing some living in the dome), though the interior is a bit rough. That rocket stove will really add to the warmth when needed!
Excellent progress on the house! Rain is always a good thing out there but let’s hope it waits to sprinkle until the bales are under cover. That cell booster worked like a charm. 👍

This is getting exciting to see this come together. Y'all got this.
More good progress!!!😊🎉❤
You guys are doing great...ignore the negative comments ..grrrrr..take care
Great progress!
I never knew you could schedule rain 😉
Always look forward to your uploads and the progress is really coming along! Some people don’t see it but it’s one of those things where it all comes together really quick in the end and it’s suddenly done since all the hard work/planning was done in advance!
As Always I Enjoy watching You Guys and seeing Your Progress!! Blessings to You!!! ❤

, they had to do during twilight hours to illuminate (sp?) the construction critic's!😂
Well done. Very exciting to watch it all come together for you. ❤
, straw bales , straw bales , straw bales ! , could have gone to Nebraska & BACK! , but ur teaching me patience ! ! , & anticipation !😮
Hallelujah, I m excited for you 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great progress and super results. Keep safe

Nice
Bro, you Hella chill, good vibes
Yayyy I’ve been looking for this one 😊
used to rain in november all the time when I was a kid here
here in westport. we are starting to have and extended fall.
my wifes roses. are blooming again. so you might it coming your way.

🤣! I'm a 72 yr old lady building ALONE!! I 'm out of money now but originally I had dad's money I inherited... no one will help.
If I lived near you I would help you, but I'm in the high desert of California. I pray that our heavenly Father gives you strength. I'm 61. 💐💝

Rooster Cogburn! John Wayne character in a movie!
Good viedo thanks guys
Good , the winds have started all ready we might warm back up ...
nice intro 🥰👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You have to keep the straw bales dry. They could mold
Water can seep deeper than the mud you plan to apply
I've missed some of you earlier videos, so forgive me if this has been answered already, but I hope ya'll have a lightning rod out there somewhere.
Ok.
Still
Waiting
❤❤
Soon, I will be this free. Can't imagine the peace and quiet. Don't get abducted by the Greys.
our silly Ricky n lucy
Rooster Cogburn

Also keep up the good work.. eventually you will get to where your not having to repair, build, and replace everything. Congrats! To the both of you!
Reply 3 ...😅 my starlink router penetrates 100 feet thru solid sandstone, haven't had to get a booster yet, but might as the cavehouse grows.
Do you ever regret not using any concrete in your mix to help with the strength and so you are not having to go back and patch
Nope. Adding concrete would make it prone to cracking.
Is there a reason to switch from soil blocks to straw bales.....experimenting with an alternative method vs better insulation or function for what you'll be using this section?
Straw bales will provide superior insulation from heat and cold. Won't have to use so much dirt.
your wife is bad ass. she's got this.
Thumbs up for "The Rooster." Or just "The" for short.
Rooster Cogburn a john Wayne kind of guy.
❤

Maybe spray concreted borax thoroughly all over each layer as you go to deter the insects (they really don’t like it).
Just curious, why isn’t the roofing being completed first to provide more protection for the straw bales. Isn’t that the first line of defense against the elements?
You two work very hard.
Maybe spray concentrated borax all over each layer as you go to deter insects (they really don’t like it).
😎
tuck the roster under your arm when your in the coop, it will know you're boss when it's spurs are long...
Great job. If you need help with the straw bails let me know, I’m six miles away. Later
How many hours a day do you work on your house? Seems to be moving slow. Not trying to be mean.
100 K coming up 100 K 100 K 100 K 100 K
Will the straw bails shrink or rot in the walls over time?
Will you have to keep topping them up?
Starlink? Or you can actually have fiber run to where you are through an internet access initiative.
Id have thought finishing the dome before starting an additional phase would have made more sense. Dunno, hope it goes well.
Just seems you dont finish anyrhing you start. , srill enjoy watching and supporting... But come on finish a project before moving on..
We've finished quite a bit.👍
@ourselfreliantlife you have , and are doing deadly!
Would it help lining the walls with chicken wire to help stabilize the cob? 😊
Name the Rooster Rueben, then you can shorten it to "Roo",
Curious, what data speed do you get? Oola Speedtest app is good. Just curious.
Jim be careful ,anyway I miss the old dog .
what about the rest of the roof? are you putting something on it ?
Covering dirt with dirt stilll makes it ??? Add some cement.

Poor Jess i see its frustrating for her redoing it all the time.. Now the bags are deteriorating and falling apart
The straw may not be plastic, but at least it is not paper.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
How do you keep straw from decomposing or burning?
Wax, linseed oil, and mineral spirits can be used together in a variety of ways, including:
Wood finishing
Linseed oil can be mixed with mineral spirits or citrus solvent to thin it out and help it penetrate wood more deeply. You can also mix linseed oil with beeswax and mineral spirits to create a paste wax that can be used to finish wood.

You’re joking, right?
Why do you have a huge cage for the dog in the dome? I have seen the same in another american video. Is it some type of law ? Good luck with everything.
How cold does it get there?
Not judging you but you should have run your sheeting all the way to facia board
🤘😎
Will the bales be protected on the outside and inside?
Supposed to be but we see how that worked out on the other project.
Jimgyver
Why just? What will be used for the others?
probably earth bags
🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
