2.5 hours and job just about done, what a ball ache trying to get the end cap back in, got there in the end, just got to drill the holes and rivet, didn't want to annoy the neighbours anymore. It looks the dogs, cheers del, if it hadn't been for this vid I would not have attempted it. You're an inspiration , keep up the fantastic how to's Greg
Hi Ben, thank you for your cool comment, mate - and I did used to run a bike shop, but find it much more enjoyable when I do it for a hobby... the whole point of the video is for you to do it yourself rather than me do it for you LOL! So why not get your tools out and get stuck in, mate - if it's a straight through Viper, it's an easy job - go on, you know you want to! Cheers for taking the time to comment, mate, ride safe, Del
Thanks mate, Simple hand tools come before power tools, and using a brace and bit is a lot more satisfying than an air drill....too many people dont even own a hack saw, let alone know how to use it effectively..just reach for the disc cutter....and on top of all that, it shows that all jobs can be done without modern power tools, so come the apocalypse, we'll be ok..lol. cheers mate, Del.
If you take care and make a good job of it, then you're not 'butchering it....the result is worth the effort... thanks for watching mate.. cheers, Del.
Hi mate, it's attached by being pressed in under pressure and the only way to get it out is as I showed, to cut the tube off around it - I just chose the rear end as it looked the easiest to remove, it's lasted absolutely perfectly, doesn't leak and is completely reliable... get stuck in mate, get any problems, just drop me a line - Cheers Del
Just seen this video, it is great to see someone with decent handskills working on a motorcycle. A man after my own heart. I have been deliberating over whether to do this on my bike, and I will certainly be reaching for the hacksaw now that you have demonstrated this task in a logical and sensible way . Much appreciated, keep up the good work
Hi mate, you can't remove the baffle as it doesn't have one! A standard Bandit can is a multi chambered silencer, the gases go through a maze of different chambers inside the can, weaving left & right as it goes, but you can buy a cheap after market can from E-Bay very cheaply and cut it down as in the video... good luck, Del
Hi Adam... if you watch the video i did a bit before that one, i had three snap off too, but heat them up and take it easy, they will come one... and well done for getting stuck in to it, you wont regret it, they sounds awesome cut down.... cheers mate... Del.
Why, thank you very much, you are most generous my friend, i make them so others can learn a bit and do things to thier own bike... take care, and thanks for watching... Dell.
Trevor, thanks great news, im so glad it worked for you mate, this is the exact reason i started the channel and load up videos to help others out...the projects are just for fun, but the "How-To" vids are there to spread a little insight to help folks realise how simple it can be to do it yourself. not to mention keep your bike on the road in these hard times.... well done again buddy, ride it like you stolled it....love the other mods too, ill bet thats proper bonkers...cheers, Del.
These Video's are epic! Everything is explained so calm and confidently. So far I've saved a fortune on maintenance on my bike by watching these videos from Delboy's Garage. Especially the "folk seals" one. Which I never dreamed of attempting. Nice One! Ride Safe :-]
Thanks buddy, you're very kind, it's not hard when you spell it out, is it? And always believed that seeing something done is worth 100 chapters in a manual! Good luck with your projects, RSMF
I've been linking that fork seals one to the forums I've been on for ages now, used it to do my own and tell anybody who asks about FS on the likes of FB etc.
Well Delboy, I did it. Chopped the Scorpion on the Kwaker down to 10 inches from 18 this afternoon. Just followed what you did here more or less. Took me a couple of hours, but I think the bike now looks much better. Ain't rode it yet cos the rain started just as I was finishing up, but cannot wait to try it on full chat. Thanks for the tutorial man, top work!!! B.B.
Haha thank you! ... a man should always learn to use hand tools first, there is a satisfaction and pleasure in taking calm time to do a job without rushing or noisy machines! Thanks for watching, Del
I have one, but i like my brace and bit, it gives total control and its nice and quiet when the neighbours are enjoying thier garden next door...! thanks for watching..
Hi Greg, thanks mate, I really appreciate your generous comments, now you can ride your bike around proud that you've done the job yourself and if anyone asks you how, you can show them! ... there is 10 times the satisfaction in achieving something new than there ever is in buying bolt on bits .. glad it helped you, that's what the videos are for, ride safe and keep it loud! Del
Thank you most kindly, Jack, you are very generous... I would say make sure that you have a factory can ready for MOT if you are gonna chop your race can down, there's nothing MOT testers hate more than a lary 'cut down'! Thanks for watching and good luck with it, take your time and make a good job, it's worth the effort and will sound terrific, Cheers Del
I did this to the stock can on my 2-stroke as it was leaking a bit and it was quite and i was bored. It was easier than i expected because i watched this first. thanks a million it really helped
Sure does Robbie, if you play right to the end, i fitted and started it up...sounds even better in a tunnel at 9k revs..muah ha haaa... lol... cheers for watching mate..
dude you are the man, I studied your video a couple of times got everything you said as far as tools and prep stuff. used my current yoshi muffler and it came out hot.Now i just have get my tank back and i can hear how it sounds ( tank getting a prof paint job) once again u the man!!!!
Hiya m8 one word FANTASTIC if just brought a new bennelli and I can't stand the length of it after watching your video I really can't believe how easy it is to do, so this weekend I'm going to give it a bash, thanks again m8
Hi mate, any can that has a straight through central tube and at least one riveted on end cap can be cut down...the rule of thumb is not to cut below 11" as the thing becomes horribly loud and unpleasant! ...but generally I would suggest taking 1/3rd of the can first as you can cut more, but you can't add it back on if it's too short! LOL! Good luck with it, hope it goes well, Del
Hi Matt. i would have to look at it to be totally accurate...but generally, as long as it has riveted end caps, and a single straight middle tube then you're good to go...just dont take more than 40% off the length or it will leave you a flat spot in te rev range...
Hi mate, the principles are the same with just about any straight through exhaust that has riveted end caps, im pretty sure you can do it, if you send me a couple of photos i can have a look and see if there are any issues that may prevent it... hope that helps..Del.
Yeah they are not all the same, Yoshi cans are a bit more involved, but as you sawe, nowt to taxing....glad it helped you mate, bet it sounds a lot better now.... cheers, Del.
Thanks mate, it has stood the test of time and use, i made that video almost a year ago, and it still works fine, doesnt leak gas or rattle... so taking your time pays off hah?.. thanks for watching and i appreciate your kind comments too... ride safe...(but louder).. Del.
Haha what can I say? ... some of my finest work has begun that way... and after a slightly longer afternoon at the pub, some of my finest failures LOL! ... thanks for watching, Del
Best recommendation I can give is before you cut it to the length you want make a cut half way along as a practice cut, if it goes well you'll get the second one right and if you screw it up you've still got a second chance... good luck with it, Cheers Del
Cheers for the upload buddy, 'stubbied' my carbon fibre micron today, it was way to long. Took it down to about 10/11 inches, sounds great! Deeper tone and not too loud. Great video & tips, cheers.
Haha, thanks mate, but I've had a few people follow the vid and have done the same - give it go, take your time, it's not difficult and it sounds sooo much better at the end!
Hi mate, I get asked this a lot and sadly, no you can't ..the standard silencer from the factory is a chambered system, which sends the gasses through a labyrinth of internal offset tubing... you need a can with a straight through central tube and packing round the outside..also with end caps that are riveted in that you can drill out and re-rivet..I am sure if you looked on E-Bay second hand you'll find a cheap second hand item you can play with for very little money ... cheers, Del
@landellsjhw cheers Johnner, not always been a great fan of them, but the Yoshi looks ok stumpied down a bit, and yeah, its sound a might better what..?
'Legality' is all in the level of sound and whether it leaks gas or not....Yoshi cans are a very well made item and make a great subdued sound, the decibel level is about 95db at full length and not a lot more if you keep it to 11" or longer... make sure it has no "for off road use only" stamps on it, doesn't leak from any joints, and you're good to go...
Ok. My arms are like rubber today. Holy Yoshi! My canister was built like a German tank. I completed the stubby conversion but I could not believe all the packing, screens, and hardness of tube inside. Three blades used. I finally got end cap into new short section and it’s so tight I did not use rivets or anything. If it blows up I’m just going to order a Delkrvic 9” inch can. I enjoyed the challenge but man you made it look much easier.
Glad you got it sussed in the end buddy, its never as easy as it looks, but super rewarding when oyu hve it all finished... i would pop a rivet or two in the end anyway, it'd be a shame to lose it after all that work..! Good luck,, and thanks for your support.. Del.
@Tauruz0153 Thanks Calvin, you're more than welcome buddy, im glad it helped you out, thats exactly what i do it for, so that folks can save a few pennies and enjoy taking pride in doing something on thier bike that then makes them feel more a part of it... good luck with it, and lets have a video of the new sound once its all done... ride safe.. Del.
Can't believe i haven't seen your videos before! Your caliper overhaul video helped me out loads. Nice job on the can. Cheers for the videos. Keep making more!
My new favorite youtuber, I love the way you work with what you've got and you've re-inspired me to work towards my dream of getting work done on my bike and car. It's been a bit tough between budget and living in an apartment with no garage, but one day I'll be able to afford that sort of space, and hopefully sooner than later seeing you work with tools I'm all too familiar with.
Hi Andy, Im glad we can inspire you in that way, its often the default reaction to take an item to a dealer or just buy a new one...so many things can be fixed and for no money too.... good luck getting your garage buddy, its no fun trying to run vehicles with no place to fettle and maintain them... take care.. Del.
Thanks Anthony, i use just basic tools to show how pretty much any job can be done at home without spending big money.....after all, simple tools came first right..!
Moonfleet41 haha so true! I get turned down from lot of youtube videos using band saws and all this machinery and im here with a hammer and a handsaw! Again props! looks and sounds great mate
Yeah it would work just as well, you would need to just make sure you cut the carbon carefully, as it is a cloth with resin in it after all, im sure if you make a test cut in the intended waste area first you'll make a good job of it.. good luck with it.. Del.
Cheers, ill be doing my full bike test at 19, currently 17 and my mito is quick enough for me, will take on most bigger bike on country roads and that. Fun little bikes
I followed your instructions step for step. Not only does my 05 GSXR 600 Leo Vince "stubby" exhaust look great, it F***'N ROARS!!! Every time I hit the throttle, It's like sleepin with a model!!! Thanks a lot man..Fairfield,CA#MotoNobs
Yes sir, straight only, maybe an ice cube if the jungle heat here is turned up. Got the river gun and rivets. I’ll work on it over next couple of days. Hope it turns out as good as yours. Thanks again!!
There's nothing in the MOT that dictates the length of your exhaust provided it is not too loud, doesn't have off road use only written on it, and not defective in terms of leaking, it will pass every time... just like mine has twice since doing this video.
Was inspired by this vid to try the same with my Viper can which looked almost identical to that Yoshi...worked out well.......only difference I found to get the end baffle type thing out rather than cut down through the middle like at 6.40 here I just gave it a couple of whacks with a hammer down the middle and out the end popped with inner pipe attached
Well done Dan, its the perfect length, and it you like riding around town tailpipe gunning, then its ten times louder now too,. ha ha ha.. mental.. cheers mate, Del,.
I did this exact same can years ago. Took a dremel to it believe it or not, and it was just fine. The inside tube was a pain in the ass though, and refitting that cap was the hardest part.
Absolutely fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, i have been debating about whether or not to do this to my full length Viper exhaust on my ZX6R and this has encouraged me to give it a go. I like the way you work and i like your original ideas and impulses haha, very well done mate and thank you.
well del ive done it ive stubby"d my can it sounds mint was easy as the end just popped of after the rivits were out, the only hard bit was trying to get the end cap back on as the shape had changed a bit. thanks for the video would not have been able to do it without it :)
thanks for the great video , i took all your steps, and followed them to a tee, and i'll be damn, i have a great sounding 11 inch can, only differnce is you used a YOSHIMIRO, and i used a D&D , but hey it was exactly the same welldid end cap, it works just like you said, thanks agian, and keep the tips comming, oh its a 98 CBR 900rr profactory air intake W/ stage 3 kit from the site, (+4 advancer), EVO star shift kit, dynateck 2000 ignition/ W coils, Brisk HP plugs, +2 R -1 frnt gear
Im afraid not mate, the factory cans have a series of misaligned chambers and all sorts of complicated shapes inside....they certainly wont be able to stubby them... but what about looking on the net for a second hand can you can stubby, doesn't have to be nice, just needs a single straight tube through the middle... hope that helps...sorry to disappoint buddy... cheers, Del.
good video, thanks you. had a question regarding the placement of the muffler hanging clamp, you cut the muffler right at the place at the clamp line. so I was expecting the hanging clamp to be right at the end of the muffler. but at the end of the video, how did the hanging clamp move to the middle of the muffler? does it not have to align with the same spot on the bike?
Oldie but goldie! :) Especially it is funny to see how work is done by a very simple instruments, compared to the current techy garage status! Nice work! :)
I would say only cut your can if you feel you can waste it....that's how i went at it...if it buggered it up, and the can ended up trashed.. then so be it... but if you paid a lot for it, then you may want to use it as it is....i cant say if that's the same as mine, as ive never used one...but i just cut it open and see whats inside...you can make most things good if you use ingenuity and take your time
great job bud, really well put together! i was fortunate enough that i was able to to bang off the end by hitting the outer lip of the tip of the exhaust pipe and evenly around it. : )
Hello Biff, thanks for the compliment mate, and hand tools rock, if you can't use those first, you shouldn't be using power tools! Remember what your momma told you 'don't run before you can walk' LOL! Cheers mate, take care, Del
Thank you for the video I am going to do this to my SVSK3 with the dual Yoshi's . going to have to make two out of one left side was badly banged up with a fall . So I am making two out of one they will both be 9 inches. so you have shown me the way Thanks again and yours sound awesome.
Hello what was the black ''grease'' you applied at the end of the cutting and snapping back together the end cap? Thank you. One thing I really loved of this videos, is that everything was done with hand tools no power tools.
Hi Christian, it's not grease, but a black silicone sealant, same as the kind used for sticking car windscreens in! You can buy it from automotive shops for a few pounds, just look for automotive heat proof silicone...
Possibly, the problem comes when you cut through the carbon gell coat, and the cloth grabs hold of the teeth....you could give ti a try and see how it goes, its all tiral and error mate, good luck.. Del.
Well after this its official, I will be doing this to my RS-3 Carbon Yoshi on my R6. Great video man. Only one I've seen on the RS-3 exhaust. The only problem I see is deciding on what beer to drink while doing it.
Hey mate, good video, does sound very nice at the end there. I imagine that you have since worked this out but you can actually take the baffle out of the RS2 cans as you have to for repacking them You can remove the end-cap and the baffle as one piece leaving just the hollow tube and the mounting plate at the other end, does take quite a bit of persuasion though from memory when I did so on my old SRAD 750. Then you could just cut the baffle and tube to length and slide it back in.
Videos 11yrs old at time of watching and it's still helped out tons!!! Thank u for the great video!!
You're very welcome!
I'm a master Honda auto tech. I learn quit a bit from your videos. The best how to videos on the net.
Blimey, thank you for that, we always appreciate some respect from the trade !
8 years after it's still a clever modification! Congrats because the result is awesome. By the way... I love your gloves!
2.5 hours and job just about done, what a ball ache trying to get the end cap back in, got there in the end, just got to drill the holes and rivet, didn't want to annoy the neighbours anymore. If you take care and make a good job of it, then you're not 'butchering it....the result is worth the effort... thanks for watching mate.. cheers, Del.
Hi Donna...i think all bike exhausts are too quiet, anything you can do to open them up a bit is all good... thanks for watching... take care, Del.

Thanks matey, why buy a flashy road can when you can make yer own aye... thanks for watching mate. Del.
Hi Nick, there was a small increase in performance and it freed up a bit more fuel consumption too! You gonna do yours??!
Haha cheers mate, I think we all perform a bit better after a beer, eh?! LOL! Cheers for watching, mate, Del
@Tauruz0153 Thanks Calvin, you're more than welcome buddy, im glad it helped you out, thats exactly what i do it for, so that folks can save a few pennies and enjoy taking pride in doing something on thier bike that then makes them feel more a part of it... good luck with it, and lets have a video of the new sound once its all done... ride safe.. Thanks mate, its not so shiney these days, lol.. but its sounds great and looks a whole lot better...
lol love the hand drill you need a beer after all that
It's called a brace and bit to be technical and he couldn't have use a better tool to control drilling those holes. So are you still having that beer?
Can't believe i haven't seen your videos before! Your caliper overhaul video helped me out loads. Nice job on the can. Cheers for the videos. Keep making more!

Awesome! loud pipes save lives... now back it in to McDonalds and hook up a rev limiter burn out... phuquem!
Great vid. It's always good to know what you're walking into before undertaking the challenge. Thanks.
Yes sir, straight only, maybe an ice cube if the jungle heat here is turned up. Got the river gun and rivets. I’ll work on it over next couple of days. Hope it turns out as good as yours. Thanks again!!
Good luck with it my friend, hope you enjoy doing it..
There's nothing in the MOT that dictates the length of your exhaust provided it is not too loud, doesn't have off road use only written on it, and not defective in terms of leaking, it will pass every time... just like mine has twice since doing this video.
Great tutorial. I have a similar yoshi tube on my 1996 ex500. I now have the confidence to take a saw to it. Thanks
I luv how you use just basic tools that we all have in our garages
For most of my life that's all I've had buddy!
Ha ha, power tools are for girls...real men use hand tools....muah ha ha... ! thanks for watching buddy... Del.
Cheers Dell Boy, done my RS3 can last night. Sounds mint. The originals look to long and old now. Makes bike look a bit younger too.
My one lol, went home that eve and took seven inches off the exhaust. thanks again the vid made it very easy.
Wow didnt think you can do this, brilliant bit of workmanship, just ordered scorpion cans for my fz6 love stubbys on the side of a nice big bike
thanks for the great video , i took all your steps, and followed them to a tee, and i'll be damn, i have a great sounding 11 inch can, only differnce is you used a YOSHIMIRO, and i used a D&D , but hey it was exactly the same welldid end cap, it works just like you said, thanks agian, and keep the tips comming,
oh its a 98 CBR 900rr profactory air intake W/ stage 3 kit from the site, (+4 advancer), EVO star shift kit, dynateck 2000 ignition/ W coils, Brisk HP plugs, +2 R -1 frnt gear
Thank you, i appreciate you watching, take care.. Del.
Oldie but goldie! :) Especially it is funny to see how work is done by a very simple instruments, compared to the current techy garage status! Nice work! :)
Hand tools came before machine tools aye..!
Thanks mate, glad you liked it..
Not at all, its sealed in a tight joint, and as no air can get to it, then it cant burn...so it does the job perfectly..
Hello Biff, thanks for the compliment mate, and hand tools rock, if you can't use those first, you shouldn't be using power tools! Remember what your momma told you 'don't run before you can walk' LOL! Cheers mate, take care, Del
Nice job! I repaired the yoshimura of my brother's bike, your vídeo helped me, thanks, saludos desde mexico cdmx
Well done Rich, you wont regret it..
Thanks Simon, still working fine on the bike to this day, if a little scruffy now..lol... cheers mate.. Del.
haha love how most good ideas start with, "i've been to the pub, had a pint" :)
What a great vid. I feel like having a go at my Scorpion on my Kwaker now. Excellent job, and well explained.
Ok, thank you for taking you time and answering.
Possibly, the problem comes when you cut through the carbon gell coat, and the cloth grabs hold of the teeth....you could give ti a try and see how it goes, its all tiral and error mate, good luck.. Del.
Sorry mate, not sure what you mean...what ZX9 are you talking about..?
Great tutorial mista.. Nice perfect job too.. Very well done, hat off to you !!!
Well after this its official, I will be doing this to my RS-3 Carbon Yoshi on my R6. Great video man. Only one I've seen on the RS-3 exhaust. The only problem I see is deciding on what beer to drink while doing it.
Well done Simon, thats why we do it aye, make them unique and sound right... lets have a video then..?? lol.. ride safe mate... Del.
Too right mate, my best work is done after a few jars.....helps you think clear..!
Hi, this is Mick Jigger, I will do this to my bike bro. Thanks for putting this up fer shur bro.
Best tutorial yet and no welding needed
Cheers Billy.....just rivets and sealant....get stuck in mate.
Moonfleet41 hi, what i can put the my sv650s 2004 ti have a song like a super sport ?cuz the sound it like simple bike thnak you.
RilesTV maybe just go on eBay and buy an open race can that's marketed for oyur model...easy to fit and should make it sound a lot better.
Hey mate, good video, does sound very nice at the end there.
I imagine that you have since worked this out but you can actually take the baffle out of the RS2 cans as you have to for repacking them
You can remove the end-cap and the baffle as one piece leaving just the hollow tube and the mounting plate at the other end, does take quite a bit of persuasion though from memory when I did so on my old SRAD 750. Then you could just cut the baffle and tube to length and slide it back in.
sounds absolutely amazing now nice job A++ love the hand tools
Awesome video man thanks :D You would never know you cut the can down it looks and sounds superb! Top job!
Well done mate, makesw them much better aye... cheers, Del.
