Please create a video aboit what is parametric modelling, what is constraints the sketch etc. Basically, the theory behind the FreeCAD. That will be very helpful for the learners like me. Thanks in Advance.
Thanks! Perfect beginner video. I’ve watched many of your other videos and they’ve helped me tremendously. Is it possibly to design a model with many parts with this software? Such as a cabinet with drawers? I’ve been using it for 3D printing but would like to expand my creativity.
Hi! In your first videos, you used version 0.19 and the polyline tool a lot. This tool is very useful to me, yet my version (v.0.21) does not have it in the sketcher toolbar. How do I add it? Thanks.
Indeed, the new polyline icon instead of several line segments with intermediate dots (old) is now a couple of line segments and an arc separated by dots.
I just completed a model, it printed perfectly on my Prusa MK3S+, however I noticed my sketches in the Labels and Attribute tree showed a yellow bracket or "V" on its side, what does this mean? Thanks again. Best Regards
I am not sure exactly what you are seeing, but try hitting the recompute button and see if that clears the marks. If you were able to print it, I suspect all is well
Great share - as the product advances it makes a lot of sense to regress and show basics, again. Without returning to the basics, it leaves gaps for newcomers - the old "beginners" videos are obsolete at a certain point.
I wonder why pad doesn't work if you have a circle in middle of rectangle? It works fine in Fusion 360. It is really weird that you make pocket/hole separately instead in just one simple pad action 🤷♂
It does. If there are closed polygons within an outer polygon then the pad feature will pad the outer and have holes where the inner polygons are. So you can have a circle in the middle of rectangle and then pad it. One must be completely contained within the other however. Edited: grammar
Hello, Im an old timer newbie, loving this content! I am completely obsessed with parametric drawing using the spreadsheet feature you have provided, looking forward to experimenting with more technical drawings using this. I do ok when I start in freecad, its when I try to import I crash. When it comes to importing files is where I am lost! types are confusing on what I can and cant do with each type. I need to import a svg to modify a logo to 3d for printing and I get 80% there and cant figure out how to complete it, I get the text to a point but have a few letters I cant remove the inner portion of the letter? Ive been searching thru the videos and the one that comes closest is the one where you work in part and not part design, maybe you could do a video on the file types and their respective limitations?
Great input, thanks Fred! - I have another video in the works that demonstrates how to use Dynamic Data which can replace the spreadsheet. You will love that. - I will look into what file types and their limitations and see if I can come up with a video to explain it.
Great Start - one thing that was hard for me to learn was the sequence of sketches that were needed to build a part with multiple padding. It would be good for you to explain when to add additional sketches. Also, is there a good naming convention to use for sketches. I have started naming my last pad (or other last feature) "Final_part_name" so when it is exported, it has a meaningful file name. You are a good teacher.
Thanks for the input Dan. My next video in this short series is going to show how to add pocket and/or hole to the part. I will discuss the reason to use pockets and holes and now will include information on when I choose to use additional sketches. TLDR: I like to keep sketches simple.
Excellent. You have solved a small mystery about the hierarchy. I would like if you would continue with these videos, and about why some of my models somehow do not have a body, I think I fall into a modelling trap somewhere in this journey, regards
Thanks! Really enjoy your tutorials they have helped me so much.
You are very welcome!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will create something like that.

You are welcome. Definitely possible to design complex assemblies

It should be there, maybe the icon changed.
Indeed, the new polyline icon instead of several line segments with intermediate dots (old) is now a couple of line segments and an arc separated by dots.
Perfect. Short, sharp and to the point. Just what a beginner needs. Thanks.
Glad you like it.

@@Adventuresincreation Thank you I will give it a try.

I agree, I am creating this series based on the questions that I have been getting. I want to be able to refer people to simple "get started" content

As @Justin Richards said, it does work as long as the circles are fully enclosed in the pad. It will make through holes.
As stated, but you always get through holes. It it better to be in the habit of using pocket for through holes AND pockets.
Very good, just what I need is this sort of basic instruction. Thank you.
Great 👍
Nice video
Thanks 😊
Thanks
You are welcome

The next video will show how to pocket that model
Very useful video for beginning Freecad.
Thanks,I am glad you think so.
It's always good to go back to basics, Thanks.
I agree!
This is useful, please keep making them
I will, this is going to be a short series to get people up and running.
