    The only problem with this is that it conforms exactly to the terrain, so the road takes on the exact shape of the terrain. In real word circumstances, the road maintains some type of consistency (flat). This is a nice start, but cannot be used without some serious tweaking. Thank you for the excellent start!

      True, if you need to modify it heavily, there are limits to that apporach. But it's valid until you nail it down ....

      @@sandeepsaini1532 Hey, thanks for the feedback. It's a ten year old tutorial, so I have to wrap my head quickly around it. Well, what you potentially could do: Try make a spline conform to the terrain properly. For example there is a small plugin by itoosoft called glue - it's free and it does exactly that. After that extrude the spline a bit and then put a shell modifier on top with a width of 4 meters for each side. Then the street is level. But it will cut into the terrain on slopes - so you would either need to lif the street up or find a way to conform the terrain. I did another tutorial for that case in this channel, look it up!

      Hi Tine. I haven't got Max at hand - but I guess it only works with geometry? So you do need to have some polygons already instead of a spline. Try this and see if it works! Cheers, xoio

    Hello thank you for the video. is there any place where you show how to apply textures to the road. Like a cobblestone road?

      Hi, Tor. Well, you can apply a UV-Modifier on top of the sweep for example? Before you pathdeform it. Apart from that it is standard texturing procedure. For a cobblestone road you might want to apply some noise-modifier on top of the final result - so it looks a little more organic?

    In real life you would not project a road alignment to your topography since any road far from a horizontal alignment has a vertical profile and a varying slope cross section. This can be a useful tool for general purpose presentation but needs more work if it is to be used as any sort of engineering tool.

      When I first started using the method of conforming a road to a terrain, I thought you were just being a know it all troll. After getting some experience, and needing a practical road to use in video game design, I now see exactly what you mean in your comment.
