I actually find that mildliners smear a ton with the Uni-ball signo dx. It does depend on how long you wait until you highlight, but if you do not wait longer than a day for the ink to dry it will smear a LOT
I use the Uni-ball Signo DX for my school tests and often need to highlight. What do you now use for them? I love it paired with my Q-dry Uni Propus, but I do prefer softer colors.

Because of this it doesn't dry very quickly and isn't really useful on glossy surfaces, and kind of dulls the words I highight. I still like them because they're erasable though. P. S. they're hard to write over because of the ink.
at 3:05 it looks like they’re really bright and easy to see, but i have them and i have the same problem as you, i don’t even realise i’ve highlighted at times
yeah thats because it just sits ontop of the paper... it dries just fine for me, and yes it can be very light so sometimes double coating makes a huge different

My fave is definitely the Frixion highlighters. I just wish their colour range is as extensive as the Mildliners. I use a dupe of Leuchttrum and the mildliners still bleed a little, but the Frixion doesn’t! Stabilo in general has awful pooling and bleed through, been staying away from them for most of my life but these pastel colours lured me lol they’re not terrible on card stock though!
I love the FriXion because when I am highlighting a book, the glob of ink left at the end of the line just annoys me terribly. With these, I just let them dry and erase the glob. They're great!

I bought some Zebra mildliners and I was excited to write notes with it and my new Muji pens. When I was at school my Muji pen had smeared when I used my mildliner. I was kinda upset bet hey they’re really nice.
Mildliners smear with gelpens, BUT: It's my only brand of highlighters that do NOT smear LAMY FOUNTAIN PEN INK, and that says a lot for those who use Lamy Pens. I have muji, stabilo boss, dong-a, and tombow.
Dong A recently released the twinliner soft highlighter line. They have pretty colors and resembles the zebra mildliners with the design and the dual tips. But theyre cheaper st 29pesos (im filipino) the zebra mildliners are like 70pesos.

Stabilo Boss lasts for a long time! I've had one for 10 years now! I used to draw a lot with it, but I've been using it as a school highlighter for the past 5 years.
Pilot FriXions are great but they have one glaring issue: the ink very clearly and visibly COVERS the underlying text. My black ink loses its vibrancy underneath FriXion ink, ultimately making the text 'pop' less to me... Shame!
I found this random $2 4 pack of highlighters and they don’t bleed at all, don’t smear and dry instantly. They are also in the prettiest pastel colours
The pilot frixion ones smear pencil SOOO much! And also when you've highlighted over writing (pen or pencil) it' doesn't erase because it smears the text underneath🙁
I have mildliners and idk if it's the pen or the marker but even after a while they still smear the ink a bit. I use frixion erasable pens so it might be the pen

except for the stabillo boss which I never tried, I like all the other pastel highlighter sets on this list. I am a little hesitant to get the stabilo ones because that shape is so weird and looks more like a gimmick to me than a useful tool.
I have the stabilo boss pastel but they bleed a lot and smear with gel pens (pilot G-1 0.5) if the ink isn’t dry, it’s annoying as hell but I still love them bc it’s the only thing I have.

It really also depends on the gel pen your using. They rarely ever smear my pentel energels.

I use casemate (Walmart brand) gel pens and my mildliners dont smudge them at all

To prevent smearing, I highlight an area, then write over it.

If your purpose is highlighting text and prevent smears and bleed through, opt for Gel Stick Highlighters. These are fairly cheap and last long.

Zebra Mildliners are also great for art. They have a brush tip version and I use them quite often for art. They do smear alot though.

Top tip for Stabilo boss: use the end of a pen and move the end of the highlight into itself.

A better test with the copy paper would have been to test out a few more colours because darker colours tend to have more bleed or show through.
