I’m making my way through your set of gimp videos and have to say that they are the tutorials I’ve found so far. You are a natural teacher. Thanks yet again!
I needed a crash course in GIMP and I am spending my Sunday going through this playlist. It's the thoughtfulness that makes this so good. The circle around your mouse pointer and the keystrokes appearing on screen. It's like you want us to learn or something! Excellent work fella!
I appreciate the text addition at the bottom of the screen describing your keystokes, very important help that so many other tute videos should include.
Hi guys. Just to interject: If you're going to want to add to selection when using the circle selection tool, you'd have to press shift and then left click on your mouse to add new circle selections to your image.
I have been following a few gimp tutorials on utube but some of them get a bit ahead of what I understand please keep doing your tutorials at basic level it's a big learning curve for us who are not professional thanks Billy FROM Broadstairs
I have Photoshop CS 5 on my old Mac, but my computer is SO slow now, so Gimp is what I'm trying to figure out now, too! I agree- the tutorials are great.
2:17 thats nice, finally I know how moving a selection works, BUT I found also out, if you are in the selection tool you can hold ALT to move it, you dont need to switch to the mover tool.
Hello Tj, thankyou for your informative tutorials. Unfortunately I am at my witts end having listener to and tried to get Gimp to work for me after much effort.
@LogosByNick The foreground select tool doesn’t work like you have shown in ur video. The problem ist that once I combine the last point with the first I don’t get a blue selection respectively a stroke to give the program the data which it needs 🤔
Great tutorial, very helpful! But I'm having issues with the "Scissors Select" tool. After using the tool to select a specific region of the image, I am unable to select other regions. The mode is properly set to "Add to the current selection", however, when I hover anywhere over the image (that is OUTSIDE of the originally selected region), the icon shows a "Do Not Enter" symbol, and sure enough if I try to select a new region, nothing happens. So it seems the "Add to current selection" mode MUST intersect the current selection? I'm trying to cut out multiple regions of the same image (to paste over a different background); but the scissors select does not seem to be able to do this. Please advise?
Nvm: Ticket Closed. User error (as always). I hadn't actually selected anything yet (I still had to hit "Enter")🤦♂Now I can select whatever additional regions I want...leving this up for posterity
How would you cut out a strawberry , select it then simply make it larger inside the original image ? I’m struggling - seems like I’m missing something simple
Point of interest: 10:16 wow, that's nice cloudy shape u just made there. That could have been much more powerful the way i was thinking it. Questions: 0:56 which software for keypress overlay? 3:37 which screen recorder ?? (also at 9:43 - u zoomed in and panned - nice, i always wanted that feature in a free/gratis recorder)
i got my gimp screwed up and now when I go into rectangle select and drag a rectangle selection it does not anchor the corner and drag from there., the selection grows in all four directions. I think te anchor point is in the center instead of the corner. Or something. I can't quite figure it out. All I know is that I have to drag a box til it's about the right size then move it over the spot I want to select. How do I change it back so the rectangle grows from the starting corner like is shown in your video?
Actually, I'm in the same boat now! I pasted it into a new layer but it's still all pizzazzed as if I have to take an additional step. Help us, TJ FREE
Update: after pasting the free-selected image into a NEW layer, I was able to use Select > None. It's still got the animation going, but I can use other tools now.
Okay, after you paste the cropped thing in a new layer, go to that layer (on the bottomish right of the screen), right click, go to layer >anchor layer
@@kjuergens1985 Actually it works, but I wasn't aware of such option as I presumed Esc would do the trick. I find it strange that such a logical option doesn't work.
Thank you for your video really , I need some help if you can really appreciate it. I have one screenshot , I just want to draw a rectangle and than cut or copy the area of the screenshot -covered by select rectangle If i do ctrl c or ctrl x , the image part does not get copied .
When I make a selection, I only want to affect the Hue-Saturation of that selection. It was working before. Maybe I hit some extra keys as I was fumbling around, and toggled something. How do you only change what's within your selection(when there's marching ants)?
Please explain to me how I remove "expand from center" from the face of earth!? That thing constantly turns it self back on when I un-check it xD It is soooo annoying, I prefer not using expand from center. xD Got damnit
@@TheRyuukazi Thanks for the quick reply, but that just removes the selection altogether rather than still having the selection and be able to edit/change/delete points on the selection that was made.
Good question. Try Right Click > Select > None. There is also a Select option along the top menu bar, and you can choose 'None' or 'All' from that list. Hope that helps!
Thanks so much for the tutorials. I have a question. How do you get out of the selection after your done using it? like when I am done with opacity how do I end using that tool, when I try it just wants me to do something else. I cant figure out how to end the tool? thanks so much :)
Swear to god everytime I open this program it does something different, sometimes it will open the same background image landscape the way I want to. Other times it will be super zoomed in to one section and I can't expand it again.
bloody hell i hate this program all i'm trying to do is check out an image on my car for hood wrap idea but the second u put an image into a selected area it becomes useless , all u can do is move it and the layers become void... its bs and i have been struggling for hours, cant adjust it at all
Any tool in GIMP similar to performing "transparent selection" in MS paint?? What it does is select by treating background solid colour as transparent. For example if u have some text written over a solid white colour, and u do transparent selection, then only the non white parts will be selected. See here: ruclips.net/video/TE6O2fGJDfc/видео.htmlm10s Update: Can blending modes be the answer to this?? I am thinking that it will work only for white or black. And not very well with others.
Canberk SEZER Hey, I don’t know whether you already found the answer yourself but you can either rightclick your free select tool, i believe, to see other selection modes or you can disable tool groups in the settings

How is it possible, if at all, to continue lasso tool selection? I mean, I went wrong on a particular spot from where I like to continue. How to I continue the previously selected line?

Hey, your GIMP looks nice and clean. How to do it?
edit, preferences, window theme, then pick the one you want.
Thanks for clear demonstration. Do you have a place where your other tutorials exist?
can u tell us how to move a specific part of an image rather than the whole image itself
seriously this is the most important aspect of selection and yet it never gets covered...
Hi, Thank you for your helpful tutorial 🤓🤓🤓🙏🙏🙏
I think I miss the easy selection options offered by Adobe now.
Seems like the end screen of this vide, doesn't have the links added. Thanks for the videos

Apparently the selection can't be rotated? E.g. your selection of the elliptic buchet opening can't be done perfectly without a rotation.

After selecting you go to the image tab and select hue saturation
But... how do you unselect something? (After you move the selection for example.)
Try Select > None from the top menu bar (or select all). You can also get to the selection options by Right Clicking. Hope that helps!
