  • Join me on a journey through the contrasting landscapes of urban living as I explore the age-old debate: House or Condo? Today, I sat down with my friend Trolls, a resident of the vibrant Klong Toei suburb in Bangkok, who graciously shared insights into the nuances of both living styles. With a foot in both worlds, Trolls offers a unique perspective, making him the perfect guide for this discussion.
    For many expatriates considering moving to Thailand, choosing between a cozy condo or a spacious house is pivotal. Some crave the bustling energy of city life. In contrast, others yearn for the tranquillity of a more secluded abode, perhaps even opting for a farm-style retreat for the truly adventurous.
    I'm inclined towards the allure of open spaces without adjacent walls, but for individuals, particularly those living solo, the convenience and amenities of condo living may prove irresistible. It's often the first port of call for newcomers, offering a glimpse into the city's vibrant lifestyle.
    Yet, the prospect of ownership beckons for those seeking permanence and stability. While condos present an accessible entry point, the dream of owning a house is not out of reach. In a future video, we'll delve deeper into the intricacies of property ownership in Thailand, unravelling the complexities to provide a clearer path forward.
    Join us as we navigate the urban landscape, exploring the endless possibilities that await those who dare to choose between house and condo living.

    Thank you for this useful information. My Thai wife is accustomed to having a big western kitchen and I’m the biggest beneficiary always having delicious and healthy food at home. The condo kitchens I have seen are the main reason we would need a house and even then have to build ourselves or remodel to get a good layout for daily cooking. 🙏

      Yeah, we added the second kitchen to our house for Chanya's mother. You can't do that in a Condo!

    Prices are quite reasonable out where you are at and the places are okay...
    Well within the budget for a lot of people IMO...
    Are the places furnished at extra cost and how much if so...
    The car is mad cool, in the old days would've loved it...
    These days, happy with a decent ride that doesn't guzzle petrol haha!
    Cheers!
    BTW...
    Good episode!

      With the price of Gas these days, gone are the rev-head days of 5 liter V-8's! As for housing, there are options for those willing to commute to work but for those who don't work, the pace of life is much better than the city.

    Aussie here looking at retiring in Thailand, I would love to see older condo/units/houses etc (bigger and cheaper?) than newer styles.

      As for more walkthrough videos, it does take some organizing but I plan to do more over the coming months. What sort of price range are you looking at? Rent or Buy?

    For us living in middle of Bkk it’s condo living only. Close to BTS and all of our daily activities. But can’t be a shoebox. Need some room to spread out. If living in a nice beach community then it would definitely be a house.

      I think people should come and visit and try each type before making that final decision. So many people I've spoken with say they made a quick decision and then needed to reassess everything after a year or two. We had 5 years in a Town House which was good but had it's inconveniences. The house just seems more livable for us but space it the key factor!

    • @jerrybthailand
      @jerrybthailand 26 дней назад

      The most important thing is, don't buy right away. Live in an area or two first to see where you like and then consider what type of living space works best. It's way too difficult to sell a condo or house IMO.@@ChanyaAndWazzaThailand

    Interesting video, as I’ve been thinking about moving to Thailand one day. You mentioned how, during your house hunting, that you had to convince Chanya that the house wasn’t haunted, which got me thinking. I know how many Thais are superstitious and believe in ghosts and I wondered if that effects the prices of older houses, if there are rumours that it’s haunted, as most Thais would be reluctant to buy it, and wouldn’t that be advantageous to a farang that doesn’t believe in such things? I’d be very happy to buy a haunted house at a knocked down price, because I know that ghosts don’t exist.

      I'm sure that would be the case but then again, you probably wouldn't find any relators advertising these minor inconveniences. You'd need to get friendly with each village elder to find such bargains, which would be an exhausting process. As Trolls said, he bought new and still after 8 years, the price hasn't kept up with the CPI because Thai's like "new" buildings.
      Of course, I have my own take on the whole ghost thing. 60% of Thailand is an alluvial plain and swamp and they throw up houses on this farmland. Then the ground dries out, and houses start to creek and sink which makes all sort of sounds in the night. I'm sure this gives weight to the whole "ghost story" as farmers aren't the brightest folks. 😉

    You never take us computer shopping. Where would you go for an upgrade or a build from scratch?

    • @ChanyaAndWazzaThailand
      @ChanyaAndWazzaThailand  14 дней назад +1

      It feels so fake to go and make inquiries with no intention to engage them for the build. This often pops up in the Saturday live stream and we look at the prices online.

    Great vlog Wazza, what's the legality of buying a house there? I hear you own 49% of it. Is it safer to own a condo? Also do the condo and house prices go up over time same as UK?

    • @ChanyaAndWazzaThailand
      @ChanyaAndWazzaThailand  26 дней назад +1

      That seems like a simple question, but it could be a 15 minute video on demand as well!
      In the simplest terms, a foreigner can't own a piece of dirt in Thailand.
      I do plan to do a video with Trolls on business options which can be set up where you have 49% but you can structure it where you have majority voting rights with your board.
      As for prices going up - Currently, there is an oversupply of Condos so you're not going to make any decent profit on the sales at present. Houses, on the other hand are going up fast outside in the suburbs and I hope to cover more in some future videos.

    We would never own a Condo, always owned our own houses. We need all of our 512 sqm to live in, as we always have owned big houses, a condo would be smaller than our bedroom😂😂

    For us it’s a house. We actually own 3 here in Hua Hin in our Thai company. We live in one and rent the other two. All are pool villas. The house we live in is 230 square mt on 600 sq mt of land. We paid 8 mill bt a few years ago. The rentals we paid 5 mill and 7 mill bt. All for cash. Basically all for the price of one single family home we sold in Arizona. They rent out at 45k and 55k bt a month respectively. My Thai American wife and I have been married fur 15 happy years and we also own multiple homes and condos in the US. We bought during Covid so we’ve had significant appreciation as well based on offers we are always receiving here. It’s all good! I’ve been investing in real estate for over 40 years. Never lost a penny!

      @@ChanyaAndWazzaThailand It’s actually pretty basic. Slow, steady and hold! Reinvest the rents and take advantage of the tax benefits and pay off the mortgages fast. Just takes a little discipline. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve been an entertainment lawyer for 32 years and always had money to play with. I don’t see any real upside for me becoming known amongst the RUclips expat crowd here. That’s not my thing. I try to avoid the vast majority of them. If I wanted that I’d just do my own channel.
