    NEW FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE LENS: The issue I mention with the AF has been fixed via firmware update. You can get the latest samyang firmware here and update it the same way you would update the firmware on any lumix camera (attach the lens, drag the unzipped file to the SD card, go to firmware version, click update) www.lksamyang.com/en/support/support-download.php?type=3&model=L

    Hi, I am the proud owner of this lens - if not the only one in july 2024, at least two or max three copy in my country (Romania) - and I have to say IT IS FANTASTIC. Yes, is heavy but the image quality is excellent. Combined with the quality of the Lumix S5 II camera, the images in low light are really good.
    I am happy that there is a review for the L-mount platform as well

    Excellent review! Some reviewers are very formal, technical, and do a lot of pixel peeping, but you are more relaxed and practical, which appeals to me. Good point about Samyang being part of the L-Mount Alliance. I've been a photographer for 8 years, shooting Lumix, and always thought of Samyang as a cheap 3rd party alternative. In this case they are neither cheap nor 3rd party. Hope it goes well for them. I just bought a new camera and a new lens, so I'm gonna just watch from the sidelines for now.

    Thank you so much for making this review of the L mount version. I am very seriously considering this lens, but I am using an older Panasonic S body so the manual focus experience is very important to me. Does this lens support the linear focus mode setting in the menu, or changing the manual focus throw?

      I forgot to mention this in the video actually. It does support linear, but there's only a couple of options for the degree of focus throw. The focus wheel also has ridges in it that's suppose to work with a motor. I haven't tried it, but yeah I think it'll be good for MF

    hey, to change the custom buttons in the E version you need an optional dock, that you connect to the computer and can change. For L mount I can not find it, so it may not be out yet, or maybe Lumix is working on a firmware update (which I hope) where we can do it in camera. about the 2 optional buttons, they basically do the same thing, so we will need a firmware update for that too, where we can set them separately.

    3:12 - FYI: If you assign the [Focus Mode] to the Panasonic DMW-RS2 Remote, it behaves in the same way as assigning to the lens button. Sony goes one step further and replicates this behaviour on any assigned function button and they give you this behaviour WHILE recording. With Lumix, you must stop recording before switching modes which is annoying.

    Hey I forgot to say something else about the second button on the lens so: for what I read and saw from the FE version, that second button should be like a focus marker, if you set your focus on one point and you click it twice, then you change the focus, you can press it again and it should go back to where you set it.
    If I am not mistaken that is the function for it, if you try it out and it is so, could you tell me if it works like that for LUMIX too? I am not entirely sure but I think that’s how it works 🙏🏾

    Just sold my S1 and S1R and got the Nikon Z8 with the Tamaron 35-150. Great lens and super sharp! Wonder if Tamaron makes it for Samyang? So similar except the Samyang price is much cheaper. BTW, you can program those buttons on the lens with the USB-C cable connected to the computer with software as well as update firmware. I probably would've considered buying this Samyang if I still had my Lumix, but with no new S1Rii or S1ii after 5 1/2 years, it was time to move on. Glad to see a new fast lens for the L mount.

    Today, many wide lenses are being made with the assumption that lens corrections will be applied either in camera or in post. This allows a simplified lens design. The perfect example is the Canon RF 14-35mm F4.

      @SMGJohn 4 месяца назад

      This is why you get older Canon EF glass which has corrective elements to minimise faults in the glass, they autofocus shockingly well on the Panasonic S bodies with the Sigma MC-21 adapter.

    • @TheBigBlueMarble
      @TheBigBlueMarble 4 месяца назад

      @@SMGJohn I actually prefer the more recent RF approach. The lenses are simpler and somewhat lighter because they don't attempt to correct everything within the lens. I find that taking advantage of the available technology to do digital correction is a smart design choice. The advantages of the RF mount, specifically when it comes to other forms of distortion, makes them superior to most EF glass.

    I ordered one and quickly returned it due to the entire left side of the frame always being out of focus. Definitely a defective lens.
    Customer service wasn't very helpful either. I told them I would like to exchange or have the lens repaired and the only option they gave me was to return it and rebuy another one. That's okay except it means I couldn't rebuy until the refund was issued and by the time it was, the lens was no longer available for the sale price I originally ordered at.
    I'm not playing a game of lens gambling and being made to buy again at a higher price because they sent out a bad copy the first time. Overall, a complete waste of my time and shipping costs.
    By the way, if your package gets lost in the mail on it's way to you, and you never opted to buy their own shipping insurance and tracking they offer on the site, you're out of luck. Buyer beware.

      It depends on the lens! Siga is first party for l-mount but there are older lenses and newer ones. Some of the older lenses are opticay superb, but slower in AF.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro

      If they are apart of the L mount alliance they use the same protocols on the lenses as LUMIX so that's why they're considered first party. Older hardware limitations are different

    Did they fix the issue with the lens barrel creeping? When I've seen examples of this on the Sony version it seemed like it would make shooting with it difficult due to the zoom creep happening while trying to get a shot.

    Samyang has 10% off with code JULY10. I could buy a used 28-70mm Sigma and a 70-200 F/4 for $1400 used, or this for $1259. It makes a compelling case at that price. Losing 28-35mm and 150-200mm but gain f/2.8 from 70-150mm. But also you're forced to carry around a 2 and a half pound beast when if you got the sigma and panasonic zoom, your day to day most of the time lens is very reasonably sized and portable. But the 28-70 is not dust or weather sealed. Decisions, decisions.
