Just subscribed................was awake at 3am yesterday as couldn’t sleep. Just flicking through some guitar related stuff and came across your channel. Binged watched for hours. You come across as a really level headed sound bloke. Your music, style and the way you review and present is 100% spot on. Cherry on the top is you are an awesome musician. To put all that in perspective. I’m now 60 and messed around with guitars between ages 15 to 20. But never got beyond the basics. No RUclips or tinternet back then. Decided a few weeks back. That before I depart this World. I want to learn how to play.........at least to a level where I can actually express what’s inside. So dug out my old guitars........bought a bit of new gear........and set off on my quest. Still in my early days..........and the issue nowadays. Is that there are just so many resources (as opposed to none/little 40 years back). So just want you to know..........that you are a great inspiration. When I first dug out my old gear and a sat there and looked down...........tried to just noodle a bit. My fingers weren’t having any of it..........my brain was saying go there...........push down and it was like I was looking at somebody else’s fingers. But sticking at it. Stay decent..........stay safe
When you are adjusting values with the time knob you can press it down and turn it at the same time to adjust values in 10s (10,20,30,40...), making it way faster than simply doing it by 1.
The opening part needs to be a Toska tune. Also, have you changed your audio interface/recording setup? The production quality in this video is absolutely top notch.
Pre-patch the DD500 was a very good pedal. The firmware upgrade has really taken it to the next level. I was lucky enough to get mine before the firmware update was announced for a very very reasonable price. The tape delay has really come into it's own now they've added the flutter control. Great to hear you really make this baby sing Bea. :-)
Thank you Rabea, I've been using the DD500 since it first released but didn't quite bond with it. I'm using it live and haven't spent much time to dig all the parameters because I always use it as a "normal" delay pedal (long, short, bit of ambience.) But after watching this video I found so many possibilities and I can't wait to try and study the pedal again. You explained it very well and simple, also GREAT playing as usual. Again I really appreciate what you did on the video. As a fellow gear demo guy, I salute you. Cheers from Indonesia.
Rebea is the BOSS when it comes to delay and ambient tones! And the fact that he makes up such great riffs off the top of his head... amazing! I'm getting more into my DD-500 recently. On my channel I upload videos weekly in which I jam around with different delay patches. Maybe check them out!
Wonderful video Rabea! :) Just a note to the tape echo part. Just wanted to point out that EchoP and EchoR are likely emulations of the Maestro EchoPlex and sort edition of binson Echorec. So not just models that Roland/Boss released, but actually emulations of the most widely loved and well regarded tape style echos of all time :)
Amazing timing. I just jumped into my DD500 today to get some double delay effects. I'm going to use some of your tips. Boss has an editor for windows and mac.
The playing in the beginning gives me straight karnivool vibes, especially the first chord. Great to hear the influence in your playing without it sounding copied. Nice playing as always ;) PS: Anyone noticed the hilarious shirt? :D
I was looking for a single unit that could deliver two separate delays simultaneously, so I could sandwich other effects; your video might just have sold me on the DD500. Great demo, as always!
If u could only choose one between the Timeline and the DD-500 which one would u choose? Im in the market for a new delay powerhouse and im torn between those 2
This is the Best demo of the DD500 I have seen!!! Be great if you could explore the tape effect a bit more? see if you can get it close to a binson, multi head? be good to see a comparison with the volante. BTW what reverb have you got on there? Awesome demo Rabea
Awesome video, I was just wondering which do you prefer more the strymon timeline or the boss DD-500? Because I know in previous videos you have had strymon pedals on your board.
Your vids are the best quality. Doesnt sound fake or overproduced like alot of ppl .. then I realise id need over 20g to have your rig and I think hmmm..lol..that's probably why
your missing the point a bit because he still uses tube amps it will always sound better to me. Tho it could just be ppl over editing in the daw afterwards but yea
gear matters to some degree for example go check out dave simpson he plays good but has shit recording gear. And having somones tone and sounding like them are two different things
I watched a review on the D500 and they seemed bias towards another popular delay :) they said the DD-500 brings no inspiration!! after watching this, im hearing a lot of ideas :) best demo for this pedal on youtube!! got one on order :)
Maybe a quick video on how you play guitar with 2 amps, how to swirch dirty channel on both at the same time? And how u comnect the DD500 to both amps?
Just take the left output from the boss delay plug that into one amplifier and take the right output from the delay and plug that into your other amplifier and there you go
I just love the demos you make!!! Quik question, at the price range of 300 £ which reverb/delay would you recommend? both as separate pedals and combo.
23:33, when I'm analog patch, the stage edit, 4096 x2 and x4....adding bucket brigade chips, so less degrade, and higher available time/values, for instance, 1 single 4096, your beats per minute will not go much above 300, becomes too degraded. Must add some chips, just like the real deal. Amazing option for this pedal. There are plenty. I've been in the parameters for 8 months daily, and I still discover new manipulations. Good luck guys. Also, if you want all these sounds, without so many menus and parameters, the new DD200 is an incredible option.
The A/B stereo effect worked but the loop function got affected badly. Once you run in parallel and press record, A or B will be recorded anf it depends on which delay A or B you are playing. So, if you press B and record, you will hear only the B side playing and getting recorded. I guess recording function works in parallel too!
Rabea, I have a question for you. I just bought a used line6 expression pedal on a whim to use with the DD500. It doesn’t seem to work. I tried a few different cables but nothing is happening. I know it’s a possibility that I bought a broken exp pedal, but is it possible it’s just not compatible? Thanks. If anyone knows anything about this, please feel free to comment. 🤘🏼
Question because the boss manuals are shocking. When running in a+b mode and using just a or b is it only in that output. Is there a way to say have normal delay with stereo modulation and change preset to say dotted eighth on one side and quarter note on the other. I basically want to do alot of sdd3000 tricks with the vintage digital, analog and tape modes.
Bea, how do you get the Krakens sounding so "noiseless"? My Kraken's channel one is fine but on the second channel it gets so noisy that I cant use it!
Very Karnivool sounding! Do they use the dd500? Greatest underrated band of all time. Only problem with Vool is you need 20 guitars in 20 different tunings lol 😂 has
Man, I love Karnivool! Regarding the delay pedals - I saw them using DD-20s on their European tour leg. But they mentioned they needed to dial down their pedalboards in terms of size due to airport charges for heavy stuff, so they might be using some more advanced pedals fer their studio work and Australian tours. I am not really sure. Nevertheless, they sounded great live using the DD-20s!
Nice video and going throughs. But after I bought it, I found it out the hard way, that it really isn't a TRUE stereo delay pedal at all. Just becaue it has the ability to produce one type of delay at A output and another at B output doesn't make it a stereo pedal. It is confusing and obfuscating only, for potential customers and users. The only way to get true stereo in tape delay mode is to use Bi-phase modulation. Like, if I should make a comparison, just the same as with old "true" stereo chorus pedals, it just wavered the Left channel with pitch bends, and that the Right channel where unaffected it produced a chorus sound. Once summed into mono, it all disappeared mysteriously. Later on, they got it enough cheap to produce double chips in pedals so you could have a true stereo chorus sound, that didn't cancel each channels out. That was synced properly. The thing is, though, that both the RV-500 and the MD-500 are true stereo pedals. This one might be a "faux" stereo at best. Stereo, it is, but by no means "true".
It actually is, it's just that the stereo field is not used on the factory presets. You can hear it in the dual and pattern engines, but need to work it for the others. Here is the core of how you can get true stereo panning (tc-2290 like) from one delay engine only, on any delay type: - press edit, choose assign, press edit again, then turn on assign 1 switch by turning the time/value knob - as src choose the 'wave pedal', and as trg choose 'effect pan'; reduce the minimum and maximum so they don't go to full left and right, somewhere between 10-30 works beautifully - now turn on assign 2 switch, and repeat the process to trigger the 'direct pan' That's it, enjoy. BTW, I lifted it off a forum post that describes 5 other methods to achieve stereo effects, but this is what I wanted and think of as 'stereo', and assuming you are as well. Here's the link to the forum post: www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/boss-dd500-owners-heres-6-methods-you-can-try-for-making-bigger-stereo-fx.1659815/
I just bought a DD500 and I was wondering if there is any way to get it to "chase" like on a Way Huge Supa Puss. I have heard slash use this certain effect in the first note of the anastasia solo. He does a bend and its almost like a super quck stuttering vibrato. its most certainly delay and am wondering how he acheives this. I know he uses a Boss DD-3 and a Boss DD500.
your ambiant lines areeee sooooooo nice I love the way you play

The intro... just beautiful!
Mr. Meeseeks I agree. I was sad that nothing else on the video sounded like that
It was pretty fantastic.
Beautiful!!!!The man knows his shit!!
The intro reminds me of a band called 'If these trees could talk'. Great playing!
The opening part needs to be a Toska tune. Also, have you changed your audio interface/recording setup? The production quality in this video is absolutely top notch.
Who knows. Maybe it can be heard in the upcoming Toska EP.
Who knows...

Every time you make a video on a reverb or delay pedal either on this channel or at Anderton's I just gotta watch it. All that ambient goodness.
Best demos for BOSS DD series, great job Rabea !
Thank you Rabea, I've been using the DD500 since it first released but didn't quite bond with it. Sometimes I think I would watch you review a tea bag as long as you played . Such a fresh sounding guitarist
Rebea is the BOSS when it comes to delay and ambient tones! And the fact that he makes up such great riffs off the top of his head... amazing! I'm getting more into my DD-500 recently. On my channel I upload videos weekly in which I jam around with different delay patches. Maybe check them out!
The stereo part is just insane! I can't stop listening...
Hope it is from the upcoming Toska EP

Every lick and riff you play I feel like has the total potential to be full on songs Rabea, I always get a little sad when you stop playing tbh
I was looking for a single unit that could deliver two separate delays simultaneously, so I could sandwich other effects; your video might just have sold me on the DD500. Great demo, as always!
Man, I love your playing! Every time I watch your videos it inspires me to pick up my guitar and practice more.
Sound effect at 6 minutes is amazing! Buying this pedal for my band!
I've been running a DD-500 into a Timeline on my board for 4 years...and that pedal combo is there to stay...
If u could only choose one between the Timeline and the DD-500 which one would u choose? Im in the market for a new delay powerhouse and im torn between those 2
Yep, getting this and the RV500 for sure.
Best review of this on RUclips. Nice man!
Best review on the DD500 I've watched, nice one mate
This is the Best demo of the DD500 I have seen!!!
Be great if you could explore the tape effect a bit more? see if you can get it close to a binson, multi head? be good to see a comparison with the volante.
BTW what reverb have you got on there?
Awesome demo Rabea
It has an echorec setting, under analog I think. The binson isn't a tape echo
You should do 30 minutes of guitar using the DD500 And RV500. Like what robscallon did with acoustic guitar on his channel.
Groovy review. Always full of good info. Updated my DD-500 to the latest version. Fun, fun, fun.
Pulled the plug on a MD500 and a DD500 cuz of Rabea's reviews on these! now hunting for a RV500.
I've been waiting for this...The DD-500 is my favorite
Now i'm inspired to use more out of my DD-500, thanks!
I have one of these on my pedalboard, one of the best things I’ve ever bought!
Awesome video, I was just wondering which do you prefer more the strymon timeline or the boss DD-500? Because I know in previous videos you have had strymon pedals on your board.
Just bought this! Super excited to try it. Ty for the great review!
Your vids are the best quality. Doesnt sound fake or overproduced like alot of ppl .. then I realise id need over 20g to have your rig and I think hmmm..lol..that's probably why
mathew was here if you get kemper and a strat/prs you ca get his tone for about 4k
mathew was here and every other tone ever
your missing the point a bit because he still uses tube amps it will always sound better to me. Tho it could just be ppl over editing in the daw afterwards but yea
it's not the gear, it's how he plays, if you spent the money you still won't sound like him

this Intro is amazing!!!
Hi rabea I know how you are tuned on this demo thank you I love your style of playing on the guitar
the pedal and the guitar are both amazing
Great video- Amazing.... & totally organized like a pro....good thing too, cause otherwise I would have been totally confused. Thanks for this demo!
Greetings from the Caribbean mate!!
Raves, great video. Some real nice sounds. In been debating on getting a dd500 for some time now.
What does your shirt say ? Madonna ?
Hey man, what impulses do you use with the Torpedoes? Do you use the stock ones or do you use 3rd party IRs? Your tones sound so natural!
Maybe a quick video on how you play guitar with 2 amps, how to swirch dirty channel on both at the same time? And how u comnect the DD500 to both amps?
Just take the left output from the boss delay plug that into one amplifier and take the right output from the delay and plug that into your other amplifier and there you go
mate i could listen to you play around with that pedal all day
Wow, was going to purchase a Strymon Timeline today ... now you got me thinking ...
Inspiring stuff as always Bea! Thanks man
I feel like every opening tune someone says it should be a toska song lol guess Rabea is just that good!
Best guitar tone EVER. KILLER MANNNNNN
Love ya shirt Rabea - Classic mate !!!!!
Great video. What patch do you use on your torpedo's for these videos? Sounds great.
I just love the demos you make!!!
Quik question, at the price range of 300 £ which reverb/delay would you recommend? both as separate pedals and combo.

You're the reason i abuse delays in my playing. I'm all for atmosphere
Thank you for the video! I am new here, I enjoyed the video..and now I know how to rout the dd 500! I will have it in a couple days! 🙂
Very informative video - keep up the excellent work.
that is a beast of a guitar pedal!
also, played by a beast of a guitar player!!
Great review kekd.. I enjoy your channel a lot..
I have bought this pedal this week it will arrive
Good stuff, have been wanting on of these.
damn that shirt is KILLER.
Great review. Thank you-Shawn.
All is cool in this video ! Thanks !
i love the display, it's very usefull! you don't need a software
WOW so excited to stay up another 30 minutes right now xD Can we PLEASE hear the moog??!
I hope they release a digitally controlled analog 500 drive pedal, Boss D-500. One that's able to stack 3 different drives!
Really wanted to hear the echorec setting
Question because the boss manuals are shocking. When running in a+b mode and using just a or b is it only in that output. Great stuff bro ! 🤘🤘
That shirt made my day. 🤣
Thank you so much for you video! Is was really useful for me!
Good review~! Madonna T-👕 😁👍
yes it is
Just FYI the tape modes echoP is exhoplex and EchoR is binson echorec
Outstanding Review! Thx Bea :)
I like the idea of having stacked delays - better to buy one pedal like this or two separate delay pedals, which I’ve seen plenty of pros using?
I like the part at 14:39 . I started singing some lyrics over it.
gran review maestro 🤟
slow attack playing seems like eelke klejn - "the voices". niccce
Chalk full of good info
Good video. A solo jam would've been great!
Great video!
Bea, how do you get the Krakens sounding so "noiseless"? My Kraken's channel one is fine but on the second channel it gets so noisy that I cant use it!
*YO THAT SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😃😃😃😃*
If i could only have one Chapman guitar, it be the ML3 Bea smoke for sure.
Hey bea, nice demo, pls a vid about time signatures ;)
Hi Rabea! How do I assign a midi channel on a Boss DD-500, MD-500 or RV-500?
Very Karnivool sounding! Do they use the dd500? Greatest underrated band of all time. Only problem with Vool is you need 20 guitars in 20 different tunings lol 😂 has

Intro from the Afro, killer
I use a dd 500 it is great!
8:22 That sounds so much like the intro of Steven Wilson's "Heart Cannot Erase" (the song)...
Really wanna play stuff u did!
"The reason of this video" starts at 24:20 😂
do you find the tera echo pedal sounds better or has more control than the one found in the DD500

9:38 on repeat. You're welcome.
The intro sounded like it was off an album. Very hifi.
I have heard slash use this certain effect in the first note of the anastasia solo. He does a bend and its almost like a super quck stuttering vibrato. its most certainly delay and am wondering how he acheives this. I know he uses a Boss DD-3 and a Boss DD500.
