You have to boil bamboo for about 30 minutes to deactivate the poison in it. My friends pour off the boil water and then stir fry/saute with Nepali dahl(bean curry) spices. It is divine. They don't throw that top part away. They use everything that is tender. Every year we scavenge shoots from renegade bamboo around town (in NC).

I’ve been wondering if I could add bamboo to my recipes. My neighbor has bamboo planted along the fence and new growth pops up in my yard. I’ve been breaking them off and feeding to the squirrels. They love it. We’re in Alabama so I wasn’t sure if our location or only certain types of bamboo were edible like mushrooms. Thanks for sharing your video.

Here in Costa Rica, you cannot chop down the native trees - in fact you need a permit to cut down any indigenous trees or shrubs on your property - you will be sent to jail. It is that serious. That way people cannot denude the forest here and sell off the wood.

Hi , I enjoy learning about bamboo. Have a question about the roots of bamboo, do they go everywhere and sprout out where you don’t want them. I farm but I have a problem with ground erosion. Thinking about planting along edge to prevent continued erosion. But don’t want to worry about finding shouts sprouting out in the land I farm. Please give me your info. Thank you.

    Does bamboo variety matter?
I have golden bamboo , I think? It's yellow with very few green vertical stripes.
All the "how to ____ bamboo" videos do not seem to work with my strain here in Florida. Like the air growing, and propagating techniques. I've never seen and culms start to shoot roots off. But I get a lot of shoots coming from the ground. I use the fallen leaves as part of my "HuManure" and garden bedding. I also chop/crush them leaves into a fine powder that I mix with water and grill/fire ash to feed my cannabis and hemp, and it's great for that.
But all in all, bamboo just doesn't want to grow, and I'm unsure if I can eat it. Anyone know about this strain?

Your bamboo is a phylostachys family ,it's a runing bamboo , air layering and bamboo from cutings are only for tropical clumping bamboos as ones on the video , and hell yes , your new shoots are more tasty and good to eat ,enjoy.
