@@ColtraneTaylor Ouch. Do you really think that? How come? I'll always defend "Liberty" though, not least when even the group feel they should bash it. It's long overdue the deluxe disc treatment and be revisited.
Always blowing me away, the more I listen the more I hear the many levels of artistry and raw emotion in Simon's clever vocals. Simultaneously so underrated and recognised; I wish people knew them for more than just Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf for, while they are brilliant tracks they don't touch the maturity and diversity of their 'hidden' cuts and later albums
I've always felt that about them. It's even worse with Kim Wilde-people always bang on about that 'Kids' song she started with, or happy 'You Came' or her "cover" that ripped the hell out of the Supremes, but, please, virtually all her 80s stuff (for a start) has nothing to do with these songs depth-wise and lyric-wise and musically, and these 3 are cool anyway, though 'Kids' way less so. I always knew "Notorious" was a top album, and it even beats "Rio". "All You Need Is Now" is the same and beats "Rio" too and "Rio" is excellent, so there!
@ColtraneTaylor Also, regarding 'Mediterranea', I have to admit that I know at least one 'non-fan' who thinks that 'Mediterranea' is the best track on the album. Whenever we go into town, he always requests 'Mediterranea' on the jukebox. Having said that, I noticed that 'Too Bad You're So Beautiful' was one of the most played songs on the jukebox when I had a look at the 'most popular selections' chart on Saturday night. But yeah, 'Mediterranea' is a nice song. Reminds me of 'Like An Angel'.
Funny coincidence. I, too, always felt Mediterranea was their best track on AYNIN album too. I think the AYNIN album was finally their requested & anticipated return to their original sound. I think Mediterranea should have been the name of the album (You parallel Rio), with Too Bad You're So Beautiful & Girl Panic as hit singles.
RANDY JUDAH TORREZ < A first glance I actually thought I was going to hear A Matter Of Filling. @ColtraneTaylor I have to disagree with you. DD are much more than just pop stars. IMO, Bruce Springsteen just makes the same 5 songs over and over again with slightly tweaked lyrics. I like some of his stuff but IMO Duran Duran are much better and more varied.
OMG, I love this song!!! Why? Why? Why? Dont they include these beautiful songs in their albums? ); Hope they release an album with all these beautiful rejects!
DD have so many demos that are so so good , like all the Liberty's demos ... is a shame that the label always cut the good ones and leave only the ones they think will be the more commercial , did you hear astronaut's demos ? amazing too ... thanks for posting !
@ColtraneTaylor I'm glad you like this song, because it's one of those many hidden gems from the band, but to call AYNIN a 'turd' is quite frankly pathetic. AYNIN, regardless of what you think, has been a resounding success, with both the fans and the critics alike. Also, it's their best album since 'Notorious' if not 'Rio' and that's a... matter of fact (ha ha). You really would have to be tone deaf to not appreciate 'Leopard', 'Being Followed', 'Before The Rain' or 'Too Bad You're So...'
@Ztinkyy Errrrm, no. If you think this sounds like Japan, then you need to get your ears checked. Some of Duran's early stuff was definitely influenced by Japan but at this stage they'd taken a different direction. Although, for a track intended for a 1993 album, it sounds remarkably "80s". Great track anyway, the best song Duran never released.
@ColtraneTaylor My comment was a little harsh, I take it back. After seeing your posting on the DD forum where you list some of your favourites from AYNIN, it's nice to see that you like some of the songs anyway.

@RocioDD Part of the annoyance and fascination I have with DD's stuff is demonstrated right here. The album cuts are, with a few exceptions, the weakest tracks they have! Album cuts are a step up, generally and then there's B-sides and the cut tracks that are often so good that - Well, they make me grateful for fans and semi-legal outlets for music...On another note, I swear I've run into you and Coltrane on comments boards before as "people who can talk intelligently, thank God." Keep it up.
Excellent song and proof they're terribly fallible when it comes to filing away loads of music and letting it rot. They don't have the all-over excellent unalbumed material territory of a few of my other 80s greats, but they display a canny knack 9unlike many) for always choosing the correct material for a released album.
@ColtraneTaylor I wasn't aware that there was a 'manufacturing war' in the US, sounds like a rather poor state of affairs. As for Justin Bieber.... well, he represents everything that is wrong with the music industry today. I clicked on that link - never seen that website before but it looks interesting. Not sure how it relates to Duran Duran though, unless you're talking about the kind of music that Alex Jones plays on his radio show. Is it any good?
Sorry, my previous comment was not very clear, my point was this track brings some slight reminiscences to Japan, the band, which Nick Rhodes is very fond of, and I meant this track may not be a hit because this is not commercial music, very far away from what a record company would want to exploit from DD
The Liberty demos are good indeed. I like Virus and Colours from Astro. I think they've got close to as many good demos/rare stuff as Springsteen. They could do a 'Tracks' box of their own.
Check out my videos (actual videos, not a slideshow of stills) for the Duran Duran songs "Virus" and "Salt in the Rainbow". Both on my channel - just click on my name to view... Had a lot of positive feedback.

@grayarcadian This is one of the few tracks I like from the TWA period; I loathe that album. Though not as much as the turd that is AYNIN. I ran the RCM Bashing forum aka Speechless(google: "u2haha"), and once posted on LK as The Ghost of Andy Taylor and CNN of the City on mark uk.
@DuranFan09 Oh - disagree - this song is ok, but compare it to the original "Tel Aviv" track (w/lyrics) and "I Believe/All I Need to know" are much more superior (yes - they have been released recently). More recently, "Virus" and "Salt in the Rainbow" are my personal favs. Check out my videos for these 2 songs on my channel.
@DuranFan09 @DuranFan09 To be precise one song only Mediterranea, the others I was only being generous. Anyway my interest in Duran has all but gone completely, & I plan no more Duran videos; I deleted my board last month. Matter of Fact
Duran Duran
Went to the crossroads
Let's stay awhile
Watch the sunrise this one last time
Don't say forever I couldn't bear the meaning
I know we can't stay together
Still we can't say goodbye
Guess
It's just a matter of fact that you only see me smiling
If I don't feel it inside it's not for want of trying
Now we saw eye to eye
Don't want you to see me crying
It's just a matter of fact
I'm with your picture in my point of view
When I look closer it doesn't look like you
As if the movie is over and I don't understand it
Still don't know each other
Maybe we never wanted to
Yeah
It's just a matter of fact that you only see me smiling
If I don't feel it inside it's not for want of trying
Now we saw eye to eye
Don't want you to see me crying
It's just a matter of fact
Turn around now that the night is gone
Blew away into the haze (blown away)
Change you never easy
But now it's gone
Ooh
It's just a matter of fact that you only see me smiling
If I don't feel it inside it's not for want of trying
Now we saw eye to eye
Don't want you to see me crying
It's just a matter of fact
Ooh
It's just a matter of fact
It's just a matter of fact
