It must have taken SOOO much time to put all of this content together -- I appreciate you! I just signed up for Home Chef using your code; my first meal arrives February 11, and I'm super excited!

    I go back and forth with Home Chef. It's kind of my go-to especially when they send the email that says "come back for $x off!". I feel like the home chef portions are very nicely sized and not small at all, and each meal kit is two large servings. The taste is great too. Though sometimes the ingredients get repetitive.. it will seem like recipes will contain mayonnaise, sour cream, or green beans.. too often. The cool thing is often the recipe will have some kind of "finishing" ingredient to sprinkle on top like an herb or something. Just a nice touch. One thing to note is Home Chef was acquired by Kroger in 2018, so many Kroger stores carry the Home Chef packs in the store (the large 2-serving pack with all the ingredients), and some of the larger stores carry many "Home Chef" options including heat and serve individual meals, party servings, etc. Though I think some of it is just using the "Home Chef" name on items they already carried such as the fried chicken. I was going to try EveryPlate next to compare - though it is cheaper is looked like the portions might be smaller than Home Chef?

    • @ShannonAndersen
      @ShannonAndersen  2 года назад +3

      ah yes! I always love the "finishing" ingredient! it just levels the meal up a little bit haha wow I didn't know Kroger purchased Home Chef! That's so interesting but totally makes sense. Definitely give every plate a try! I have a good code for that to make it even cheaper than it already is! the portions are just as good as Home Chef - it just doesn't include like higher end ingredients like shrimp and salmon and those kinds of proteins and the sides are typically just a fairly basic vegetable type side so they're less intricate but really affordable and still super yummy! its my second favorite meal service!

      I tried home chef for a few meals and loved it. Then I tried every plate. It’s a lot cheaper but thought the food was just average. I want to try home chef again but it’s so expensive. Anyway I can get a discount with home chef? If I cancel can I get a discount?

    • @rodhoutx
      @rodhoutx 2 года назад +2

      @@karebeareatsI hear you! After I've used Home Chef a few weeks I do a permanent pause (not just paused for a specific number of weeks). Then when I'm ready to try it again I reactivate it. Sometimes they might e-mail an offer to come back and get a week or two at a discount, but not always. EveryPlate is still on my list to try.

    What I’m not liking about any of these is that you have to give your payment information before you can look at the meals. Home chef sounded good from your review, but they don’t have very many vegetarian meals to choose from. In the past I used blue apron. It was good, but pricey.

    • @ShannonAndersen
      @ShannonAndersen  3 года назад +2

      I definitely agree, I dont like that they try to ask for your info before you start selecting meals. But I've actually found that for most services, you can just google their menu and it'll come up with all the meal options for the next few weeks for you to view! but I think during the sign up process, they switch it so the you put the payment info in first. IDK WHY! That's why I search the menu on my own to check it out haha little cheat code for you! I'm surprised to hear you say that about home shef! Have you checked recently? We get lots of vegetarian meals from them!

      Yes, when you’re first signing up they only show a few. I’m looking into doing daily harvest. You pick what you want first and then you can see a total once the box is full. It seems like a better option for people just buying for themselves. It’s also only vegetarian and has not only meals, but also smoothies, ice cream , snack bites and even coffee. Everything looks like it’s already prepared so all you have to do is heat it up, which is ideal for busy people. I know for me, I enjoy cooking, but prepping the veggies/herbs/spices is what takes the longest for me.

    I want 6 meals a week for one person. Is it possible to order for 2 people, 3 meals a week? Will i be reheating meals or can I cook half now, and half later?

    • @ShannonAndersen
      @ShannonAndersen  Год назад +1

      yeah I order more than just two servings often times!! its usually just easier to make all of it at once and just reheat but you can definitely just make half and then make the other half later, too! I've that as well!

    I tried Blue Apron, Green Chef, Marley's Spoon, Hello Fresh, and Home Chef -- all of them for an extended period -- it was earlier this year and last year and I came to some different conclusions. I think Marley's Spoon has improved since your review- though they do have some of the annoyances you mentioned. For me it is very close between Marley's Spoon and Blue Apron, but now I'm just getting Marley's Spoon. My experience wish Home Chef and Green Chef were pretty bad.

      Would you care to share why you didn’t like home chef and green chef? ❤😊

    • @fivelousyminutes
      @fivelousyminutes Год назад

      @@bobbiemarks4125 Certainly. Green Chef: I order my meals for 4 - GC sends you 2x the order for two, and tells you to "double it where it makes sense". Seems easy enough but so easy to forget when you're in the middle of cooking things. How hard to print a recipe card for the order for 4? The meat and fish from GC was often higher quality than the others (thick salmon pieces, rather than thin ones for example). But their sauces, which were usually pre-made, were frequently excessively salty and oily - almost always actually. The meat from GC frequently was a bloody mess in the delivery box and in my fridge- but only Blue Apron has consistently solved this problem. Finally, I got one order that was a salad. The lettuce was covered in bugs. I complained to GC and they wanted to give me a few dollars discount on the next order. I had to fight for them to refund the whole meal cost and to issue the refund to my credit card (since I was mad now) rather than a discount. I canceled GC after this. My main complaint was the greasy and salty sauces I'm controlling sodium, and all of the meal kits tell you to add too much salt, for my preference. But with GC I couldn't remove salt from the premade sauces. Home Chef: I don't have as many notes on this one, but I seem to recall I was just underwhelmed with the recipes and it wasn't bad, but not as good as Blue Apron or Marley Spoon. They also did recipes for 4 as 2x recipes for two, and I made a note one time about it being difficult to translate that due to the pan crowding. A pet peeve I have with all of the meal kits: the meat is packed with water and almost always there is less meat than the recipe claims- example 20 oz is instead 18oz. I know grocery stores do this too, but I can compensate by buying more. With the meal kits, you end up with not enough food sometimes. I've taken to complaining and getting partial refunds if it's egregious. Blue Apron has been particularly bad about this. Marley Spoon less so, but they aren't consistent.

    I have to agree that Home Chef is amazing! I’ve done hello fresh and blue apron as well. Hello fresh was great but with covid the quality of the produce declined so much I was having to go to the store to replace ingredients weekly and calling customer service every box. Plus if you don’t like repeating meals it’s definitely not for you, although I do have my favorites that I will look the recipe up to make. Blue apron is nice but the healthy eating and all the fancy grains and veggies was not for my fiancé and I. Martha’s box was on my to try list but I’m not expecting to switch to it long term based on your review. It would be ingesting to see you review Epicured, they specialize in gut and gluten friendly foods. I’m curious to see if the food is actually good.

      Adding my humble opinion here - my Marley Spoon experience is very different from Shannon's - after trying a whole bunch of them for 3+ months each, I have settled on Marley Spoon (#2 is Blue Apron). It is a little annoying - provide your own eggs, vinegar etc. She's not wrong about that. But to me the quality and variety have surpassed the others. All of them have issues though, including MS and BA. But when I decided on one to stick with, I went with MS.

    I would like to give a gift of meal delivery to my son and his wife that are new parents. I don't wish to make more work for them, but I want good quality. It sounds like Home Chef may be the way to go, do you agree? If I give a gift card for a service, do the discount codes still work when they order meals?

    • @ShannonAndersen
      @ShannonAndersen  2 года назад

      yes, definitely give Home Chef for sure! it has so many Oven Ready Meals that take barley 15 minutes to assemble so it is so perfect for new parents! My husband and I actually just had a baby 7 weeks ago and we have been loving them as new parents, too! You have to pay full price for the gift card of course but I believe they can apply to the gift card to an order with a discount code! so I think they can still take advantage of the coupon code! I'm not 100% sure because I've never done it but I think it would work that way! and that would be so awesome for them to kind of get a double discount! what a great gift idea🤗

    I tried Every Plate- it was good and cheapest but not many healthy options and everything is thrown into a box- like nothing pre measured or neatly packaged. Marley Spoon was the worst! Nastiest food I ever had. It compared to really bad hospital food . Home Chef- was out third subscription and I just stopped trying everything because it was so good! The packaging is also the best - they make it so easy to follow the recipe and to clean up. There’s hardly any cleaning to do.
