- It's gonna be a long road to weed free here on the farm. We have really bad clay soil. We have to create tons of manure, we layer the ground with cardboard, we've used garden fabric - both the thickly woven or thin type.
Guess what? Yup, we still have loads of weeds. So... if you can't beat 'em ~ weed eat them!

You properly portray the very essence of the fight!😂😂😂 Learning ways to gain advantage and succeed is the challenge of a lifetime!!
😂 Thanks Micah! It TRULY is a fight! And I think this year my realization that I can’t maintain “weed free” in the large area we are trying to plant was a leap forward. Just weed wack it!!
Great advice Niki!! Those pigs fertilized good 😆
Lol! That must be the problem! 😂
LOL you crack me up! The pollen here from the forest in MO is so thick everywhere is yellow.
Glad to make you smile! This is the 2nd year I’ve had a reaction to it. Miserable!
Hello there, new subscriber. I was watching McGhee's family channel and came across your channel. Awesome videos. Thanks 👍
Thank you VERY much! I appreciate your subscription. Micah is an amazing fellow isn’t he!
@@arusticrenaissance yes ma'am he sure is that. His family also. Thanks again
I feel ya on the weeds. I've used woven weed barrier with success, but weeds will still come up where the plants are. I've finally won the battle so far this year by using a double wheel hoe from Hoss Tools. It is an amazing tool.
Thank you for the tip! I’ll do some research on that tool for sure 😃
Have you had a go at other cover crops?
As a matter of fact, yes. This year I planted Might Mustard Trifecta.
It’s a non gmo biofumigant. It’s supposed to:
Suppress soilborne pathogens
Suppress broadleaf weeds
Suppress nematodes
I just cut it down yesterday, chopped it into pieces to release the glucosinolates and watered it in. Trialed it in our onion bed to see how it works. I’m excited about the notion that this can help lower the nematode population! It’s the glucosinolates that take care of the pathogens & nematodes. The shear mass of the plants help suppress weeds. Fingers crossed & thanks for asking!
Hey no worries! Also attracts a ton of beneficial pollinators, Crimson Clover is also a great one to add@@arusticrenaissance 🐝 I've only got that plus Lucerne (alfalfa) was thinking of chucking in a some Peanut for more soil food 🌱
@@growinau love the idea of peanuts. They are supposed to grow well here. Still have to harvest the trial crop of those. Just a few bushes. We are bringing in a gentleman, next year, that specializes in regenerating pastures. It’s such a large job for two people & I want to spend money on what really works for our land. So many options out there! Love what you’re doing, keep up the good work!
