  • I did a video a few weeks back on five canvas kicks that were better than Converse. Don't get me wrong I love the look of a pair of Cons. I don't think there's a better style of trainers to go with a pair of selvedge denim jeans.
But converse, how can I put this. They are kinda crap. There are better alternatives out there.
I had a lot of guys reaching out and saying, yeah, they were shit but with the Chuck 70, they fixed it. I had so many guys reach out that I thought. This is something I need to check out. So we are going to check it out. We are going to check it out with these. This is a brand spanking new pair of chuck 70. We are going to see if Converse really did fix the Chuck Taylor.

this was a really fun video, and i thought i'd share my experience with my Chuck 70s after almost 1 year of wear (as well as some months of skating in them)
my absolute favorite thing about the 70s is the tongue construction. the two lateral stitchings you see on each shoe is actually because the tongue has a winged shape that hugs your toes. that creates a 5 layer of canvas region for your toes. to me it just feels so amazing, so tight, rigid and secure, it gives me a lot of precision when skating, a lot of lateral support and gives the feeling like the shoes are just an extention of my foot.
then i also love the memory foam midsole, that blue foam underneath the insole. it just makes this shoe the most comfortable sneaker i've ever owned. i also love how durable and tough they are, they have a lot of rubber and the canvas upper has still not disappointed me even after a lot of skating and cleaning. they still feel like they have a brand new structure.
finally, they are absolutely the most beautiful pair of shoes in my opinion. they look so mature, so tough but also so casual and cool. so many small details and textures, but such a simple and classic sillhouette. they've held up amazing for so long under many rough conditions and they are as comfortable, durable and beautiful as ever.
and just to correct some of the things you said in the video: yes, they are definitely vulcanized, and being vulcanized does not mean that you need to be able to see the rubber melted onto the upper. in fact, almost every modern vulcanized shoe has tried to not have that happen, i'm surprised the Novestas still do. and second, please do not put your shoes into the washing machine lol, Converse themselves tells you to avoid that at all costs.

I have owned my Chuck 70s now for about 9 months and they are beginning to fall apart around where your foot bends as you walk. However, I can’t say that they are not a durable shoe, as I have worn them every single day to college and work. So basically if you wear only Chuck 70s every day for about 12-14 hours a day, you can expect them to last you about 9 months. I also would say that if you have extremely flat feet like I do, you are going to need some sort of insert that gives arch support but also one that will actually fit the silhouette of the shoe.

I switched to the 70's a few years ago but the 70's always fail in the midsole/ outsole.... the glue that holds the outsole to the midsole fails and I end up with a hole between the brown rubber on bottom and white sidewall rubber. This has happened with every single pair of 70's that I own. Earliest was 3 months in.... longest it took was 9 months.

My inner canvas of the chuck 70's mostley fail around the one year mark (heavy wear). being where my big toe is and at the heel. But I never got and discomfort from that. I cannot wear them for full walking days in them too flat and after a while the insole loses some of it's squishiness. I'm on my second pair now, and only had to get rid of my first because I wore through the bottom. First time that ever happened to me with Chucks - the old pairs would always die from sidewall separation.
Regarding sizing - I went a down a half size with my first pair because they felt a little long. They were snug at first but got more comfortable as I wore them in. My second pair I ordered my normal size, and overall I'm MUCH happier with them.

I don’t think people buy canvas shoes for support reasons. It’s all about lack of structure, flexibility, lightness. I recently bought a pair of novestas and I’m trying to think what I can replace the insoles with, they are too heavy and the arch is so high.

Chuck 70s were never for me either. Mine squeaked and creaked when I walked or even just stood up and moved my feet slightly. They fit very long and narrow as well. They look amazing but Novestas are just so much better.

I've had both chuck 70s and Novesta. For me, the novesta are a far more durable shoe. However, the chuck 70s are decent, but the sole did wear away after a year, and the tongue kept twisting.
Winner, Novesta. With an added bonus of looking premium and not having the majority of people knowing what you're wearing.

  • @BrianVonClick
    @BrianVonClick 2 года назад

The lack of the lace loop on the Chuck 70’s is such a bust for me. The tongue may as well be a silverware linen. Otherwise, it’s perfect. Just a frustrating omission to a more expensive and “upgraded” version of the bare bones All-Star classic.

I wore converse all through the 90s and my last pair was in 2010. I recently bought a pair of classic chucks and they were total crap. The canvas is different and crappy and the lining is spongey. They’re more crap then they used to be. So I grabbed some Chuck 70. They’re significantly better. Yes. But the sizing and fit feel different. Like the 12s are too big and the 11.5 too small. It’s maddening. Adidas Nizza fit great

I always have a chuck classic in my rotation ever since i can remember wearing shoes and yes i agree that the 70s are better than the classics but i still have a classic in my wardrobe and only use it for special occasions(example: i wore them in my friends wedding with a suit. I also wore the classic with suit combo whenever I do a presentation in the office, i am known in the office as the "sneakerhead"). But on a regular day mondays - thursday chuck 70s and friday(or sometimes saturday) other fancy sneaker(or trainers). Ans so far my last pair of 70s had been with me for 3 and half(from the time i post this comment 04/16/2023) so the build quality is significantly greater than the classic which only last me 1 and a half year(2 years if i am luck).

I don't care: I wear the Classic version, customized in the custom part of the Converse official web site. And the custom version has the lace loop and binding to finish the sneakers.
There is NOTHING that compares to classic Chuck Taylor Converse All-Stars. I've been wearing a new pair EVERY DAY, all day, since February! The sole is nice and squishy. And I clean the rubber with toothpaste and a discarded old brush.
A new custom pair of pastel tie-dyes for summer is on its way (after they finish making them) and my shoelaces are already here! I'm happy! They have wide-widths! For little feet like mine! (I'm a lady.) I have A COLLECTION from the 1980s!!! They are now too small and some unusual styles will make MUCH MONEY on eBay to pay for my new custom Classics!!! They make me happy. 😁

Agree. They started on making new models like the 70s, chucks 2.0 and other more. But sadly the original chuck taylor all star was left behind infact the quality became really poor. Maybe its a strategy of nike to lessen the quality for the other models to shine.

The Chuck 70 has an older model with a marginally thicker canvas and a slightly different, more rigid insole. The older model has a dark grey and more firm insole while the new model has a softer more squishy lighter grey insole. The laces on the older model are nicer and thicker. I prefer the slightly older model because the shoe is slightly more rigid and actually weighs slightly more.
