Once again, sheer genius making something very difficult look so easy. If you have an apprentice they must think all their birthdays have come at once. Thank you again
Amazing as always Steve. The trouble is I would need at least 10 times the time it took you to make that and both sides would certainly not be the same. Well done!
You inspire me. You mention "your grind" on the skew, can you do a video describing your grind and sharpening methods? Also can you do a video showing practice exercises so us mere mortals can follow in your steps and get good with the skew?
Thank you Steve, I sharpen on an 8” ruby wheel. I don’t hone my Skew. I grind freehand and an accumulated angle of approx 30 degrees 15 degrees Skew angle. The best practice is straight dowels and rows of ball and beads.
Superb work and video. Can I ask - were you using the skew way above centre height, it looked as if you were almost cutting on top of the piece.Wherever it was, it certainly worked, I like the way you to spend hours of sanding to get a great finish. Chris
Really nice job. Just in time for valentine's Day. Can I ask you about the chisel you used? Looks like a skew but alot beefier. Could you provide a link for it please?
Sorry for my English, but I've a question. How do you cut the two wooden parts in a way that the two cuts fit on each other? I'm linging to make a few of these hearts for myself. Its really nice. Compliments
Thank you, I feel like I was born with the skew, my family have been woodturners for 300 years and I watched Grandad from a very early age. I never wanted to do anything else. And yes it is my favourite tool.
a must say you look as one with it if i can come ant thing near that just a bit i would be happy just awesome it's becoming mine to big thank you for your videos
Thoroughly enjoyable video.
Brilliant work 👏 👍🏽 👌

Nice video. Like to see the shavings flying with the sharp tool. That video should have more views.
Thank you

Great project, just wish you had added the angle for cutting.
Thank you, sorry I’m not good at these sort of videos and I never measured it as I do so much by eye it didn’t enter my mind.
Beautiful work!
Thank you

Chris
Thank you, the tool rest is slightly above centre and I cut very high up on the work.
Now I know what I'm making my wife for Valentine's Day!
(Probably another bowl. 😊)
Lol, and why not.
👍👍👍👍👍....
Thank you
My wife saw your FB post so now I'm on the hook to give it a try. I hope it doesn't look like a butt. Any advice? Lol!
Really nice job. Just in time for valentine's Day. Can I ask you about the chisel you used? Looks like a skew but alot beefier. Could you provide a link for it please?
It’s a standard Skew from Ashley Iles with my grind. www.ashleyilestoolstore.co.uk/turning-tools/chisels/flat-section/25mm-flat-section-skew-chisel
woodturner21 cheers Steve. Will look into buying one. I really like the skew but mine is only ¼" thick
This one is only “1/4” thick. If you want a thicker heavier skew Thompson tools do one.
Sorry for my English, but I've a question.
How do you cut the two wooden parts in a way that the two cuts fit on each other? I'm linging to make a few of these hearts for myself. Its really nice. Compliments
It is done as shown on the video. and just make sure you cut both sides starting at the same point on each side.
So you're marking a spot on each 'egg' and cutting them at 45 degrees with the miter?
It’s approx 35 degrees and on my bandsaw
Thanks for that info.
Can you use any part of the tree or just the Hart wood 😉
Lol,
Lovely. I think I might have had concerns, personally, with cutting it on a bandsaw in case it rolled.
Thanks
James
Thank you
awesome just awesome are you sure you was not born with skew. lol. is it your favorite tool.
