Jaco Pastorius to Hadrien Feraud to Me/You | 3 KILLER BASS GUITAR LICKS With Breakdown |
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2018
- Without a doubt, Jaco Pastorius and Hadrien Feraud have had the greatest influence on me as far as bass playing goes. There are other names to add to the list but these two are at the very top of it.
In this lesson, we're taking a look at drawing inspiration from our favorite musicians rather than copy-pasting a phrase (note for note), which defeats the purpose of being expressive and creative.
I decided to take a classic Jaco lick, morph it into something Hadrien would possibly play finally leading up to my take on the phrase. Hopefully this gives you an understanding of what can happen if you PRACTICE RIGHT.

Stank Face Movement, your new band🤗😁
Anthony, you are one of the most versatile, talented, and creative musicians I have ever seen. I wish you lived near New Jersey, I would love to take a lesson or 12 from you. God bless you, and thank-you for sharing your video's. I have been inspired to be able to play things I never thought I would be able to by watching you.

Super cool! Anthony. It is very cool to hear some classic-fresh ideas. You look like Kim Thayil from Soundgarden lol.
Thanks man and haha! I hope I look early Kim and not him right now hahahaha
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great video man, I appreciate you going into depth. I’m going through a similar thing having learning so many Janek tunes and listening to him the past 2-3 years. And before even watching this video, I’ve strayed away from playing his tunes or seriously listening to him the past couple months to attempt to build my own vocab/sound. Also, I’ll be that annoying guy and ask what pickups are those? They look remarkably similar to the DiMarzio model j p/us I have in my four string Squier, and they’re easily my favorite passive pickups.
Hey, for those of you who might have missed it, Anthony gives the harmonic context for his phrases at the very beginning. Try using the same phrase over different chords. It's great ear-training and it opens your mind to other sounds...
Like your way of teaching but just one suggestion start playing those frases slow at the beginning and then start building up till it reaches the faster tempo.
He Collabored with singer French Michel Polnareff on Album Coucou me revoilou great .
I'd like to see you tackle some Deicide, Necrovation, Obscura. Very curious to see how your playing would transition in a metal context. Been here since the beginning and my knowledge of the bass guitar has increased immensely. Thank you!
I love Obscura! I used to listen to a ton of necrophagist, cannibal corpse too haha. Good times. I come from a metal background (mostly thrash and progressive though) and tbh it’s deeply engrained in my heart and soul. Easily one of the most expressive styles and I feel that carries forward into my “jazz” playing.
Thanks btw! I’m glad you dig the channel. Cheers man!
😎🔥🔥great lesson man
thanks my man! much appreciated !!
Thanks for contribution, it's great when good players share their wisdom! Do you think that creating your own lines containing different musical content, or creating lines of consepts you're trying to internalize is the way forward?
Thanks man! And yes, that is absolutely it! Get creative, explore. Take what you like and milk it then throw it away. That will help develop vocabulary AND help you find YOUR sound. Cheers ;)
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎶🎶
STANK FACE!!!!! HAHA Love it!!!
... actually I prefer Your phrase! :D :D :D
And I DO LOVE A LOT JACO!!! :D :D :D :D
Well, there you go. Don't like licks, creating licks. Hilarious 😂
Love your tone. Are you using flats? Or just tone rolled back? Great work
Dane Alderson, check him out if you haven't already. He has a real nice sense of space and pacing/drama in his bass lines and solos...
Im trying to slap since 1 year. Try help me fix my problem. And my ibanez gsr 200 sucks in tone😭
Out of curiosity what do you think of Federico Malamans playing?
I think I’ll have to watch this back at 3 quarter speed. That’s a spicy tritone.
Thank goodness for the playback speed settings! haha. I want to condense the information into a smaller video rather than run my mouth for 20 minutes. And yes, the tritone is spicy indeed!
Anthony Muthurajah your vids are great btw. Glad I took the chance when one of your vids popped up in the suggested videos section. Keep up the good work mate.
Thank you! Much appreciated and glad you found the channel :) Cheers man and thanks again!
Hi Anthony
I had a sugestion a few videos back, about metal bass playing (Dream Theaer, Meshuggah...) I would like to remind you of that :)
And I have a question: What are the albums by Hadrien Feraud that you would recommend? Like a must listen Hadrien Feraud list
Thanks
Cheers from Portugal
And keep doing a great job
Yessir. I still remember! Just trying to find the right material to put into an educational context. Check out Hadriens 2nd record titled ' Born in the 80s '. Some serious grooves in there! AND check out this group called Spirit Fingers. Their debut album is out and is self titled. Hadrien smashes it to bits. Such a beast!
Where can i get your book??
I loooove your tone, and i know it's your fingers...
Thank you! And as cheesy as it sounds, it is definitely in the fingers for the most part :) Cheers
I love gary willys too
清晰、简单、有趣、有用
谢谢 !
Anthony Muthurajah If you come up with a textbook this way, I'd be happy to buy it
Anthony Muthurajah I think this way of teaching is very unique, very simple and vivid, and contains many key points in jazz, which will definitely be in my book list
One dislike probably came from the guy looking for the tab link :D
Or someone who wanted actual “licks” lol 😂
Sunny Dsouza Or a lefty bass player.
😂😂😂
In your dreams 😂
BOY BAD
Anthony I saw an interview where Hadrien said that he encountered younger players who sounded like him and at first he was charmed initially but quickly grew tired of it and found it highly annoying. Thats one of the reasons he enjoyed playing with Federico Malaman because he finally encountered someone who was gifted with great skill but did his own thing. By the way, what do you think of this young girl from India Mohini Dey ? And yes I know its hard for a guy on your level to be put on the spot and asked about others. Thanks again for the great video it reminds me how much I need to learn but its a fun journey!
In all fairness, early Feraud sounded very much like some players ( i don't want to name them ). It's like a rite of passage before you find yourself. To me it'll always be an honor if someone chooses to play my lines but there's a side of me which wants them to move on from there, not out of spite or annoyance. In my honest opinion, Mohini is a talented bass player but it's just not my vibe at all. And yes, it's hard to be put on the spot and asked about my opinion about other bass players hahaha
Timi Rama
This is disgusting. I love it.
Haha! Cheers James!
Killer
Cheers man!

Ok
Phrases, not licks. THANK YOU!
Glad i found you. A little bit nasty :)
Fail... Never
Haha!
Yes!! not licks. Learn then unlearn and rearrange phrases. Use the alphabet and be creative. Don't just recite licks strung together.
That's it!
Those hair need to go please 😂
You got your wish
