I bought this wallet based mostly on this review. I've carried it daily for a little under 4 years now, and absolutely love it. I got the chestnut and it's become a rich dark brown over the years.

I have a beautiful bifold black wallet from Saddleback. I have had it for three or four years and it is still lovely. The only downside is that I may never again experience the fun of a brand new wallet.
This was the only quality leather front pocket wallet I saw that has great options for cash and receipts, etc - with the two top vertical pockets. It really makes the wallet. I can keep emergency cash in one and other paper in the second pocket. Still can't help but think it is expensive for what it is but I'm hoping this guy pays his people a living wage.
I have the 'newer' made in Mexico version and it came this darker color and was much more broken-in than I was expecting. I was hoping for the lighter color and to watch it patina but whatever. People freaking out over the change to Mexico production on this wallet but people also have to realize Mexico's heritage in leather craftsmanship. It isn't China. I will gladly own Mexican leather goods as long as they are well crafted.

Bradley, mine came today 3/27/23.
They have totally redone the cash portion. It's not a full pocket for bills anymore. The wallet is open on opposite sides at the bottom so you can get to the bills easier. I think it's going to be perfect!

Your going to love this wallet. i'v had mine "dark coffee one" for two years now & still I'm happy with it. I just ordered there Large Belt Pouch in Tobacco brown to hold this wallet & iPhone together. Take care

Great review. I've got the same wallet in Tobacco as well. Once the leather softened it was perfect for my needs.
It certainly starts off rigid, but yes, it softens up very nicely.
Just ordered this and it's own it's way. I understand this review is over two years they cost about 70 bucks now 11/27/2016...which is fine made in Texas now too which is great!! Thanks for the review.

Nice!! Your wallet is starting to patina. I got my bifold last year and it's looking very nice and scratched up now. I also got their Credit card wallet that i recieved in June, 4. It's starting to losen up and beginning to patina. Do more Saddleback related video please!!

Hello Mr Things, I would have wagered that Saddleback uses chrome-tanned leather, not veg tanned? Also, seems that price has gone up from the time of this wonderful review of yours. Got the exact same wallet last week, it is TIGHT!
+Timo E - I'm pretty sure it's veg-tanned, and yes it IS very tight at first, but it will loosen up. I still use mine and enjoy it very much.
I got mine today and its real tight still and bills stick out. Are they suppose to or does it have to be broken in more?
patrick kelly - They do start out VERY tight, but it will work in with use. The bills will seat a little deeper too, but they still stick out a bit in mine. I haven't found it to be an issue.

I got this wallet and also the popov front pocket wallet. I love both but only used the saddleback for about 2 days because the popov came in. Seems like they're making the saddleback wallet thinner now which kind of sucks but oh well. I've been wanting to use the saddleback again but I love my popov! Do you change up your wallets every so often? I can fit more in the popov too
Any issues with this wallet bending or "staining" cards/IDs? I typically carry 3 IDs (DL, CCW, and a military ID), 3 credit/debit cards, and usually only a "just-in-case" $20. I keep it pretty minimal, just annoyed with cards getting bent and weird dull stains (for lack of a better term) of them.
Brad Parks - No issues that I've noticed. The leather seems to be very color-fast.
But as far as the credit/ID cards, no staining or fading? Or wear on the credit card numbers?

Only bad thing about those is that if u want a 20bill u will have to take them all out and with a byfold its so easy to get out the bill you want

they increased the prices for the front pocket wallets to $70 for no reason... its ridiculous they took advantage of the high demand particularly on this wallet cut of greed

What the hell is wrong with wallet makers not being able to make an ID window big enough to display the entire card? All ID and credit cards are 2 1/8 by 3 3/8 yet we constantly see windows 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inch wide which cuts off so much information that the window becomes useless. This wallet is the worst I have seen in that respect.
+Whatatay T - It shows name and date of birth, which is all that usually matters. Most people make you take your ID out anyway, so it's never been an issue for me.
+Stuff&Things Than what is the point of the window? If it was big enough to display the entire ID you wouldn't have to take it out 99% of the time. Most places want the state the driver's license was issued in. This wallet is a failure because the people who designed it are stupid.
Ha! You are REALLY angry about this scourge of too-small ID windows, aren't you? People make you take the ID out because it's usually policy to hold the ID in the hand and inspect its veracity. Like I said, the size of the window has never been an issue. If it bothers you that much though, you're certainly free to buy a different wallet. Thanks for watching.
+Stuff&Things Yes. It is just frustrating that so many designers screw up the same thing and don't research this. I just got a wallet that has a 3 x 2 inch ID window and even that cuts of the last letter of my last name but it is much better than the 3 x 1.5 inch windows. If most people make you take the ID out than what is the point of having an ID window at all. It is just stupid and lazy design people.
because it's not a window, but a hole. IME, if the hole is too big (i.e. big enough to present all the information) there's not enough "card" left on the side to hold it in place and it'll just fall out the hole. And again, it really depends, I've read people saying that in some states it perfectly displays all the info they need (perhaps StuffandThings lives in such a state), and in others it doesn't). In my case for example, if I had to have a hole that displays the full photo as well as the DoB (which for my license is below the picture) there'd be just over 1cm of space left on the bottom for the leather to hold the card - in my case specifically you can just have a thicker top and right side, and leave the left side and bottom leather very thin...but it depends, others would need "more window" at the top etc. Not saying what saddleback did is the best possible answer, but this is a "can't please everyone" situation (you have to remember, as well, that saddleback does have global clients).
Frankly I'm more angry at ID designers in various states and countries. Most people keep their ID in their wallet, and a wallet like this that has a window is fairly common. That being said, why wouldn't you put ALL the information at the center? That's just common sense, you can put things like license# on the side but, you can EASILY fit Name+Photo+DoB+Expiry in a compact format in the center of the license and at least IN the US come up with some sense of common "ID format" so each state doesn't do it's own thing. THAT's SUPER common sense, it'd make things so much easier for everyone, including bar bouncers cuz they don't have to familiarize themselves with 100 different ID styles, plus more people can use the commonly use window style ID display if everything is in the centre things are easier to see...and why not? it's not like it costs MORE money to print things differently.
