Before i was a professional homeowner i owned a Leatherman Charge and used it more or less exclusively for small home repairs.. whenever i go to undertake a job around the house its still the first thing i reach for even though i have a garage full of all the tools i could ever need. My Father in law is a handyman and he recoils every time he sees it but its never not been able to do the job. Sometimes he even asks if he can borrow it specifically because his tool wont do the job. Great bit of kit
I've watched many reviews on the wave plus. This one is perhaps the best. Why? Because he explained the advantages and disadvantages, as well as his experience in using the Multi tool. The reviewer just wasn't showing you the capabilities, Which many millennial reviewers do, And that's not value added; But rather a waste of time. Thanks for a great view and keep up the great work!
I've had my Wave about 20 years. A few years ago a friend made me a leather sheath which holds the bit set the bit extender and the flashlight. If I have pants on, I have this with me, it goes to church, it goes to the lake and the field. The only way I don't have this combination on my belt is if I'm in a place that won't allow it, like an airport, courthouse or some entertainment venues. Good video.
Been a user of a leatherman wave for 20 years. It's my third one already because I use it everyday and everywhere so it can get lost easely. I love it and i don't leave my home without it.
Multi tools should always be a backup or emergency option. Once worked some place where they took away all adjustable tools, because to many people were stripping or rounding off fasteners. The right tool for the right job...
@keeperoftruth5951 I dont wear gym shorts, and my truck is never more than a short walk away. I would rather walk to my truck and get the right tool than drive to the store to replace a rounded off fastener... you tell me which is going to save you more time.. Yes, they are handy. Yes, I carry one. Yes, in a pinch, they can save your ass. But they are never my first choice.
My Leatherman Wave is the earlier model that lacks the reversible regular/Phillips bit. But I have the bit adapter that slots onto the closed tool which accepts both the Leatherman “flat” screwdriver bits as well as conventional ¼” hex drive bits, so that’s not an issue for me. And as the adapter is on the centerline of the tool it makes driving fasteners easier. But accessories adds mission creep to the equation. A multitool is supposed to be the one tool that does it all. So it’s personal opinion as to how far you want to go with carrying accessories and extra bits. As for a flashlight: I tried several mini flashlights and ended up just using the LED on my iPhone. Used with the camera it makes a serviceable inspection tool.
Absolutely no multitool ever could ever replace my toolbox, and the ones that try to do the most end up being the ones I like the least. The fuse is as much multitool as i could ever need, I have tools and toolboxes everywhere, for me a multitool is just something to tackle small minor tasks here and there when it's not as convenient to go to the toolbox.
@@bladeinsider8997 Yes of course, but you still won't be replacing a toolbox with it and the compromises a multitool has to make will eventually catch up with you if you ask too much of it.
It depends on the profession. It can’t replace a mechanics or electricians tools but for me in the constructions my basic tools are far different from a mechanic. Sometimes though i need screwdrivers pliers saw etc for tasks, not job routine. So instead of carrying a toolbox “just in case” i have a multitool to back me up. I have a charge tti which is the premium line of wave plus. Recently I purchased a Victorinox spirit for edc. I have to confess that Victorinox is light years ahead on ergonomics and craftsmanship. If Victorinox and leatherman made a tool together it would’ve been the tool god used to make the universe lol
Their service is outstanding. I dropped my surge off a ladder, screwdriver open on the concrete. They gave me my money back and I bought a Charge TTI then.
I just use the tip of the serrated blade to open those horrible clam shell packs. The other great recent addition is the ratcheting driver. That thing is great in a pinch.
I still have my PST that bought in the 90's then there is the others SUPER TOOL , SUPER TOOL 200 , SUPER TOOL 300 , CORE , REBAR and a lot more MULTI-TOOLS .
Blade dude, I agreed, the right tool is everything. Take for example a fishermen not having a filet knife or a small blade knife in his tackle box? score 2 out of 5.
Dude I loved your video. Really good. And the tool is amazing indeed. I own one. But do I think it can replace a took box or tool bag? Probably not. Just my opinion. Thanks
always hated people making package openers a big deal, if you can’t use the other 20 tools or the 3 blades on a wave to open a package, than you don’t need to be walking around with a knife
I want to know where that 64 Rockwell H1 steel is hiding. The pacific salt I used for a while was so soft the edge would roll over just looking at it funny
I see you’re a NewTuber so I subbed. Hope the channel takes off for you. I have a bunch of Leatherman tools but agree the Wave+ is just about perfect as multi-tools go. Love it. But replace regular tools...no way.
Hey, awesome video. I had a question that I was hoping you could help me with. I purchased a leatherman surge and all the inner tools do not lock solid. They all have play, the screwdriver has the worst of it. It just wiggles back and forth, up and down when locked. Is this normal or are all the tools supposed to lock solid? Thanks
I do not own the Surge. However, all Leatherman's that I have used lock. And it would not be much of a tool if it did not lock. Take it back. Pick up a Wave +
That’s not normal. The Surge is just like the Wave but bigger. I would either tighten the security torx on the sides or send it to Leatherman you’re covered under the warranty.
Beware. Not all leatherman offers is rainbows and pink puffy clouds. I'll just stick with a small tool bag of nano tools. It will never replace my tool box.
I've had the Wave since 2004 and is the flagship MT hands down. Tools overlooked: crimper, wire stripper, pricision driver, 1/4 flat driver, also clip. I modded a Wave with Charge ALX blades( 154 cm, cut hook serrated also Tim Leatherman signed) and added tweesers. I call it my Wave A+ it's my work day pocket EDC. There's a gen 2 Wave in my work belt also. ruclips.net/video/ijhQPq7qqZc/видео.html
The Wave Plus replacing my tool box........ What? C’mon! Stop the nonsense! The wave plus is a great Multitool! It’s not going to replace anyone’s tool box! Instead of the Wave Plus, one should look at the Multiforce from Ozark Trails. Yes, it’s a knockoff of the Wave. It’s better and much cheaper in price!
Sorry man from experience I can tell you this is just a sell’s man trying to sell you products leatherman aren’t the best and the scissors are horrible on the wingman they can’t cut most things unless you force it and pull tight the string which is why you actually use scissors instead of knives
Oh wow lol. He is actually stupid, or he thinks everyone else is. "I don't like this ruler, I don't think the pliers are conducive to a good measurement." First of all, that's a nothing statement. Those words together do not make a sentence. Second, yup, really makes it difficult for me to measure because my eyes are so fixated on the pliers just sticking up all loose and dangely.
Listening to the way you say "Multi "Mul-tie" is doing my head in..Why can't Americans pronounce English correctly ie "Mul-tea" Bloody annoying !! O.S. The Wave+ is a cracking bit of kit..

I love my Leatherman Wave. I just bought a second one yesterday to keep in my car and will be ordering the buy kit shortly.

Consider the pocket clip for a carry option.
@@macgyverbryan1377 I just need to put it back in my pocket after immediate use 😆
Its the go to tool
Multi tools should always be a backup or emergency option. Once worked some place where they took away all adjustable tools, because to many people were stripping or rounding off fasteners. The right tool for the right job...
Multi-tools are just so damn convenient.
Not a stand alone tool yes, the tool you have also on you yes. A Wave is in all my projects, keeps my finger nails smooth also.
Good luck fitting an actual tools box full of dedicated tools in your gym shorts pocket

That’s my favorite tool! I carry it on the hip or use the pocket clip. I keep a bit kit in the house and one in my truck with a Surge.

Liked your overview.
Can be used to replace most common tools, for general use.
Great review! Just ordered my second wave. Lost the first! Thanks...new subscriber.
I think the Wave hits the sweet spot as far as value, and capability.
I beg your pardon, my black and chrome leatherman surge is beautiful
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Agreed.
Nope its objectively awesome

Yes but the wingman scissors aren't that good. The wave scissors is much more sharper.
I prefer the Wingman, The larger sissors work better for me.
The best MT Leatherman scissors still go to the Juice series, sadly retired.
