I'm trying my first rope lure for a live this week. Been catching them on rooster tails in Missouri but it can be tricky as you have to let them take it a bit before setting the hook. The bigger gar won't even hit the lures anymore so I'm trying the rope lure for them. Hoping for a record gar this week or even the solid black gar that broke me off last week. Lol
WRONG, they are by no means “invasive” in Missouri. They aren’t a game fish but they aren’t invasive either. Don’t kill them, throw them back, they’ve been there forever
Gar are pretty necessary for all water systems, they control baitfish populations and often just kill smaller bluegill and baitfish, Alligator gar are probably worse because they have a big enough mouth to kill a trophy largemouth or Bluegill.
No they more easily eat carp or large shad. I’m not saying they don’t eat LMB but they probably eat more sucker species because there are not as many large fish in rivers
Gar also help fresh water mussels to develop new mussel beds, and that in turn helps the entire eco system. They are not "trash" fish. No such thing as long as they are in their natural range. Missouri is definitely their natural range!
Awesome! I never knew this. Thanks for sharing
Thak you very much for showing me how to make them.

excellent diy !!
🎉great info thank you
Spotted gar are not an invasive species and are actually a threatened species in Canada and some northern states
Thats up there. It's different in each region
They are native to North America my man, they aren’t invasive in any state. Pricks kill them out of spite just like they do Bowfin and Bullheads.
I agree, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. If they are invasive, where are they from? Where I am in New York they have been here forever.
Good video Ima try this out let u know how things go!
Will the rope lure work on alligator gar
I dont thing so their teeth are a little different
I just bought a cheap box of treble hooks and stuck it in the end o the rope and melted the rope around it

I am sure that they often are eaten by bass and other fish.
