- Wildland Firefighters are a dying breed. Retention and Mental Health are at their lowest. Wages are barely meeting minimum. Check out @grassrootswildlandfirefigh3033 to help 🙏
First short…..lemme know how I did 😅 - Спорт
They should get at least 100k a year
Atleast. My brother n law is a firefighter where I live and I make more than him it’s insane.
The hotshots do with overtime and everything but there pay definitely sucks for what they do they get about 20 dollars per hour and the people you see in construction zones holding the sign get paid closer to 30 there’s a big difference between the two in risk levels
200k. Dude there literally saving lives and property its insane how low they are paid.
soldiers first. their lives are way harder than firefighters
@@TheSpencer033they both have hard jobs no need to compare
I'm feeling this. Worked 1,020 hrs of OT last season and made 67k in 6 months. A lot of people think it's good money but it's not all. You can't miss a single roll because you will lose 4 to 8k. You're constantly away from family, countless days with no sleep, hiking 2 hours up a 40 plus degree slope and cutting line for 14+ hours. I love it but they gotta change pay and TSP (retirement)
Damn. Thank you for fighting them for the common folks. Respect 🙏 . As for pay, absolutely you should be paid more. Risking your lives
Where do I start to look for joining a hotshot crew because when I’m out of high school in 2 years I want to go into wild land firefighting
Well my Fiancée of 7 years left me for a f16 pilot vet a week before my birthday last month so I got nothing to lose. I'm joining. It's better than what I'm making now Less than 40k a year.
@@tylershaw4880try looking up ffrp
@@kry0-c00per2you'll be alright brother what makes it more worth it is your men an woman to your Left an right your crew
They really need more respect
The states they’re utilized definitely respect these men and women. Unfortunately to thd federal and state agencies that hire them, they’re classified as “unskilled labor”. I know there was a bill proposed to increase their pay but I’m not sure what happened
Been doing it 5 years now never gonna stop
anywhere i can reach you?
Hell ya.
Same 2nd year let’s go
Can confirm, I swear I want to jump off a cliff every time I get the tuna MRE
But that thing is stacked with protein
@@4estmoreland I would rather eat old ass oatmeal with no water
@@4estmorelandHey man thinking of getting into this any tips for me?
@@vikingsfan1233if your between the ages of 18-25 and live in CA, you can join the California Conservation Corps and they can set you up for a career in wildland and even structure (I don’t know about career paths from other state conservation corps). But if you don’t live in CA or are older than 18-25, you can still apply off the street. You can apply to join a hand crew with the feds like the USFS, BLM, NPS and even local state agencies and municipal departments with fire crews (though it’s hard to get accepted into the latter). One thing I’d suggest is to progressively overload on hikes, adding more and more weight through time. And when training, start committing to a hybrid split with weight lifting, calisthenics, circuits, and going on runs. Cardio is a big thing. But yeah, the fire season’s coming up in a few months, man, so be prepared. Good luck!
This genuinely needs to be giving to a commercial company
getting ready for my first season. cant wait for the hard work and fun experiences
Great attitude. It's a blast and will get in your blood like no other job. Travel, commeraderie, best office in the world, character building ... best job out there. With long hours and H pay, you do well. Try not to eat too much smoke. When in Rome, do like the Romans do.
Let me know how it goes for you. Striving to get in next season.
They dont do it for the money, if they were they wouldn’t have been so brave and willing to risk their lives and sanity for others 😢
In between fire seasons call your fire brothers and sisters and check on how they are doing it can mean more than you know for them and you …be safe
Something about the end part of the video has made the risk of lung cancer and disease and also the low pay always worth it to me, I love the adrenaline of cutting hotline
As a military vet all these listed benefits sound great Im signing up!
😂😂😂😂
What was your MOS and how long?
The stats are grim. Our country needs qualified, wildland firefighters.
Our forest depends on these brave men & women. Too many times forest fires are started by sociopathic arsonists. It’s heartbreaking to see beautiful forest ruined by fire started by domestic terrorists.
Our Sacramento Mountains in New Mexico started burning yesterday with multiple small fires scrambling and stretching resources. Tell me sick fire bugs are not involved.
Edit- it was 2 people that started multiple fires in this fire. Rumor it is a wild land firefighter and spouse. Sick sociopaths.
Meanwhile 23 yo girls working at meta as project managers make 2 - 300k a year and are completely detached from reality. Thats what i call wage inequality
I got a late start into season but heading to do my pack test this week and then hopefully getting to work my first line
Been a wildland firefighter for 3 years my home state in AK Up here in the bush you’ll get eaten alive by mosquitoes while working and sleeping hiking though Mother nature armpit I can confirm my whole left side of my body just feels like they need W-D 40
The saddest part is that some people wold rather have the firefighters save their property and don’t think about the risks behind it. The Yarnel Fire, 2013, 19 hotshots died trying to protect a ranch. The worst part is that there was not a civilian in harm’s way.
bro the 100k pay rate comment it should be 120k or 150k bro they fight fires with trees that can fall on them, fires that spread easily
Going on 8 years contracted wildland FF still love my job
What state? I’m thinking of joining here in SoCal
Cant wait to join you guys. moving out in a few years.
What is the fitness requirements ? I’m in shape but just wanna train towards it
One guy said just legs and cardio
The bare minimum fitness requirement is called the “arduous work capacity test,” AKA “the pack test.” You have to be able to walk 3 miles on flat ground while you carry 45 pounds on your back in 45 minutes or less. That is the minimum standard. Mind you, real life wildland firefighting is way harder than the pack test, but at least the pack test will get your foot in he door. Good luck!
I do the job not to be a hero or whatever i do it because i love it ,and i know im small out there compared to the trees but ill put my self between them to protect and help anyone i can
Mo.get ready mo is calling!
6 years and still going strong, but knees starting to hurt a little 😂. So in the process to lose a little bit more weight. Definitely a job for the strong it will make you or break you.
Pay is a congress act. Us who do the work take the risk but it outweighs its unnoticeable rewards
Great video, looking forward to seeing more from you!
If you live in America please call your congress representative and ask for higher for wildland firefighters
The payment is way too low.
👊💯💪🔥RARE BREED OF BADASSES🔥💪💯👊
im not going out like that i promise!!!
looking to join
Don't forget that wildland firefighters and firefighters are also dying due to human error like they're always being told to just go in and conditions should be okay and then would you look at that 19to20to40 to whatever many firefighters lose their lives cus they were basically cooked alive or suffocated due to the harsh environment that's why i feel firefighters deserve more respect and money than anyone else
Many of us back in the day started in prision.diamond was my first fed crew to give me shot.
What music on this video, Sir? It's awesome
Folsom prison by Johnny Cash
Paid in Sunsets
I hope I get the job I wanna a real life
What's the sound used in the background.
Yo WTF PAY THESE MEN SAVING OUR FORREST GOVERNMENT!!! DAMN THE GOVERNMENT SHADY AF!
Becuase the USDA pays us like dog shit...while cdf aits atound making 100k + a fire season
Pay was raised up to 31 dollar and hour and 34 ot but I still think it should be raised still
nope
That's a fair wage. Ppl complaining about that?
I was wildland fire fighter in southdakota from 2009 to 2017 prisons 😂❤ im 39 and was on many fires ... got zero praise 30 sumthin cents an hour and risked my life much quit bitchin
With the absolute most respect, if it's that bad don't do it.
Someone's got to do it not everyone can have a bullshit fake job where they sit in zoom meetings talking about nothing all day. Somebody has to actually work and I think with this next generation we will see a great reset where the people making money off the internet will have their wages plummet and it will be the plumbers, construction workers and jobs like this that make the real money because people are so soft and out of touch that most of the new generation can't even change their oil or hang a painting let alone fight fires in the forest or build the things society needs to function. The world can't live off podcasts and pointless apps.
@@Lizzzzzzy921thank god for the white men who do this type of work 🙏🏻
Someone has to do it
Self chosen for varying reasons. Myself, it was simple. I couldn't sit back and watch or pretend that my state wasn't burning. So I left construction at 40 to start my new path of being a wildland firefighter. Each and every person I've met, on average, does what most cannot do or are unwilling to do. The weakest of any wildland firefighting crew works harder than 90% of anyone. My respect to all who have taken on this challenge. Look in those men's eyes. Tell me that is unskilled labor while sitting on your L shaped couch pretending that your blind opinion or understanding is even close to accurate. These people, are the unsung, underappreciated , under paid, misunderstood bad asses of our time. I'm honored to have had the opportunity to meet such amazing people.
My husband just got hired
In what state?
I’d do it if the government cared as much as I do, as it is I’m not sacrificing myself for an indifferent administration
Song?
folsom prison blues - johnny cash
Song name?
It's some sort of cover/remix of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues
Just like are country to leave are hard working folks behind wile spending and giving away the money we work for . I’m getting sick of it !
😂😂😂😂
But yet burger flippers bitch about their wages. If your job could be done by a 10 year old you shouldn’t be able to live off the wages you earn from it. Period!police, military and these brave men deserve a thicker wallet
everybody should be able to live off their wages whether they flip burgers or fight wildfires
You get so close to the point and then miss it. Everyone is getting fucked over by those at the top. These fellas deserve a serious fuckin raise for sure
Speak for yourself. As a Marine AND Soldier who fought in Iraq AND afghanistan, Pay was not important. I do not go to war for a fucken paycheck. You cannot place a dollar value on sacred military service in war time. With pay or without pay or even food, the fight against radical Islam that attacked us on September the 11th 2001 was a fight for the survival of American western civilization. As a fighting man in the US Army at the time, my life was not for sale. I was not concerned about the dollar amount. I was in this war against my enemy as a matter of principle. Honor Courage commitment to duty is not for fucken sale.
These men deserve happy burger flippers to serve them when they want to sit down to a burger
@@agapon2023😂😂
Why are ppl doing this for no compensation. Are they all ex cons?
They are men
Thats why you should never work for the feds.
Because they realize they are federal employees
