You might not get this a lot from strangers on the internet but you sir are one hell of a humble human being. Stay blessed.
I appreciate kindness in any form. Thank you.
I've been reading on phones and tablets for years... I got me a Paperwhite on Prime Day... I'll never look back.
I just did that too. Love it!
I've had a KIndle since 2008. I love it, love it, love it. I cannot read on a computer or tablet. The Paperwhite is really great.
I'd rather play solitaire than read off of a computer screen.
Is working now?
i read almost exclusively on my iphone
Erik Baskin god bless your eyes
Erik Baskin do you have a Kindle? If you live in/near ATL I’ll lend you one. If you like to read it’ll make a difference.
I swear by my kindle now, I am constantly moving so having a large collection isn't ideal for me, sometimes I do miss having a physical book but man do I LOVE my kindle. Would recommend to any and every person on the planet
I love my Kindle as well. When I do miss physical books, which is rare, I'll just go to the library.
I’m 3 months in and love my Kindle. It’s increased my reading ten fold and it goes everywhere with me. I’m 52 now and it helps my eyes. You’re looking good for 41.
That original kindle video is how I subbed to your channel. Been loving the channel ever since
Happy to hear it! I'm still stunned how that video took off as I didn't think I took a real stance on it and device reviews isn't really my thing.
LOL me too
Same
Same!
Same! Love your humor!
The last video convinced me to get one, haven’t looked back since
It's a gamechanger. I take it with me everywhere now.
The battery is surprisingly good also
Jawanza McCutcheon the battery is awesome
I have a Kobo Libra. It is gorgeous and has optional yellow backlit screen for night time, which is softer for the eyes than blue light and looks like parchment. It's lovely. Also the Kobo doesn't lock you into the Amazon world, you can use a good old Epub from any source.
I almost went that way when I was doing all of my research. Sounds delightful.
I have had my Kindle for about a year and I love it. I am a book hoarder so I buy whatever looks interesting to me (sometimes I'll never even get to those books). My bookshelves filled but quickly and my bank account was suffering... Now with Kindle I've managed to get my book hoarding under control and my shelves are happy because they are now only filled with books that I adore. Also my bank account is happy because ebooks are half the price of a paperback, sometimes even cheaper when on sale.
I use Amazon Prime and choose the "no rush shipping" option and get free digital credits a ton. I use all of those on e-books. So convenient.
You should try getting the Libby app by overdrive and go to your local library (check if it supports overdrive app) and get a library card (it’s free) and you can use your card on the app to rent free ebooks through your phone and you never need to go to the library again after you get your card. Libraries have always had ebooks but not that many people think to go to the library anymore so there are a bunch of free ebooks waiting to be read. I’ve saved a lot of money with this!! You can rent new books and not just titles that aren’t really known.
@@Josh-vk7qu you are so right!!! I've been using Overdrive which is the same as Libby for almost 5 years. I have saved $100's of dollars just using this app. It's so cool to be able to read new releases for free and who cares if there is a brief wait. I constantly tell people about this app!
Ebeezee it’s amazing right?! I’ve saved a lot of money as well and yea the new books have a small wait time but It’s cool you’re able to put it on hold but still get to read new books for free 🙌
Yes, have an Oasis and like the buttons and bigger screen. Being able to deactivate touch (so you can use your finger for underlining while reading, if you want) is also quite nice. I'm not sure if the new kindle paperwhite also supports inverting black and white for reading in dark places - that's also a nice feature. If money is critical, a paperwhite is perfectly fine, too.
I only just came across you for this specific video and I just wanted to say how engaging your presentation skills are, you fully entertained and informed me for the duration of the video. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
The best Kindle Paperwhite review I have read!!! Comprehensive yet concise!
I've dropped my Voyage pretty hard on concrete when I took it out while walking. It flew out of the 'origami' case and fell facedown. The case was damaged in one corner (where the initial impact was I guess) and the Voyage itself was flawless. Man these things are sturdy.
I wish they'd apply this kind of durability to smartphones.
Would you consider the screen to be mostly scratch and shatter proof?
@@zainshaikh527 That was my only real drop, but the screen is perfectly fine. I'd assume the rubberized back of the Voyage help absorbs the impact of most falls on top of providing excellent grip. Can't comment on scratch resistance since I keep mine in the case all the time except when reading lying down.
@@Arcynite Thanks buddy!
I am on my second Kindle. I got the keyboard initially as I have RA and can no longer hold paperbacks. I upgraded to the Paperwhite 3 years ago & like mine goes everywhere with me. I also read every night & the built in light is so good for that. I wouldn't be without mine. Only con for me is that I keep buying more books & currently have 130 yet to read! Wouldn't be without mine for sure.
Ha ha I never let the fact that I have hundreds of books I haven't read stop me from buying more.
I've purchased it some years ago and I think is one of the bests investments that I could have done. Very practical to read in English. I read in paperback when I read in my native languages though
I do like that the shelf life seems to be really long.

Love my Kindle! I recommend a book called “The Whisper Man”
I believe my wife either read that or has it on her TBR list.

I've had a paperwhite since they came out and it is fantastic. Love the back lit screen.
I’ve been on the fence about it but now thanks to you I found out that it will be better for my eyes so thanks I had no idea that reading with a black background was bad for your eyes.
Hope it helps!
I love my kindle! I’ve had 3 different models over 6 years and I only recently discovered how to checkout library books on it. What a convenience!
Such a great feature.
how do you do that
I love free books from the library !! I love my kindle
@@MandyGood The low cost of FREE makes anything better.

I just found your station. Man i LOVE it. Love the fact that you talk about books. It seens that in todays day and age books dont get the credit they need. Thank you.
I have a Kindle Voyage and I don't know why I stopped using it. It's a great e-reader! Instead, I have been using my Galaxy Tab S6 tablet for reading. After seeing both of your videos I plugged in my Kindle to charge so I can start using it again. My eyes are not getting any younger. I also subscribed to your channel; looking to expand my reading repertoire.
I've had a generation 1 kindle paperwhite for like 6 years now. It's never going to break down, I can promise you that. You could never drop it hard enough. Just save your money and buy an upgrade when they come out every other year or so!
I’m sure when they inevitably come out with the Kindle Color I’ll have to upgrade. So you’re probably right.
I love my Kindle paperweight, one of my investments. I am 52, and have been reading on my tablet and phone and was having eye strain especially in sunlight. Thanks for the review.
i was thinking of getting a paper white a while ago, but then i went to a local tech repair shop and had my old kindle’s screen replaced and i’ve used it so much since then! i love the buttons so much 🥰
I have the second generation Oasis and I read everything on it. I had a Nook Simple Touch before that. I haven't read a paper book in years. Being able to adjust the font and sizes is a major plus. The only drawback is that it's a little too big to fit in a pocket, but the extra screen size makes it worth it though.
I don't think complaining about the placement of the sleep button is nitpicking. You're correct, it's a design flaw that hurts usability. It's ridiculous that they didn't fix it in Paperwhite 2021.
Thank you for your contributions to my brain!
I sometimes use my Kindle for listening to Audible books. It works with wireless earbuds but I mostly use my phone for Audible since I have everything also downloaded on my phone and earbuds automatically connect to my phone.
If I was the audiobook type I think I'd prefer my phone, too, since it has more space and will probably always be with you.
I bought a kindle paperwhite after seeing your video. I was very skeptical since I love physical books, but this has helped me read more books. I really love it and how I have it hooked up to my local library to get books downloaded all the time! Thanks for this update video! Love hearing your opinion!
Glad to see I didn't steer you wrong. I already read a ton but being able to almost always have that thing with me only increased that output. Being able to read outdoors while my kids are at an activity is the best.
Just bought my first Kindle (Paperwhite) and I really enjoy it! My greatest challenge is to navigate the Amazon Kindle Store - I find it a bit hard to browse and look for inspo - and best, if you are searching for a specific book. But Im Scandinavian and not used to Amazon in general, so maybe it just takes some time! Thanks for the video!
I love the idea of ebooks. Carrying an entire library in one small device is a modern miracle, and so convenient. If book publishers ever do the Blu-ray thing where they couple a free digital copy with the physical copy I’ll finally start doing ebooks. I refuse to pay for both.
My biggest complaint about digital books is that they should be WAY cheaper than a physical copy. There is zero reason to charge the same as the physical book costs when there is absolutely ZERO production costs after the first copy sells. It's robbery. I'm not saying they should give them away, but no digital book should cost the same or, in the case of MMPB, more than the actual book. I hate it.
@@mikesbookreviews Totally agree there, they really should cost significantly less. I'd also like a free copy of the e-book when I buy a physical copy. I always felt that bookshops should maybe sell little usb data sticks and let you download an ebook onto it whilst in store,
@@boxoffrogs9712 That would be a great idea. Or bundle the e-book with the audiobook since that market seems to be blowing up now.
I love my paperwhite and treat it as a child as well lol. The closest I've gotten to testing if its water proof is when I haven't dried my hands well enough and a drip falls onto it. I suggest you get the Official Amazon paperwhite case for it. It'll automatically put the device to sleep when you close the flap, it's waterproof as well and I personally love the fabric feel and look of it.
I think that's the one I have? When I bought it, it had an option to get the power adapter and case with it.
I love that you also get hit in the face when you fall asleep reading. 😂😂 My husband thinks I’m a freak. I’m glad to know there are others like me.
I love my Kindle Paperwhite 10th gen! I also viewed your first video regarding the Kindle. Nice to have a update video. :)
Btw, you look like a EDC guy man. 🤙🏻
*Googles EDC*
I saved up and purchased the Oasis (Gen 9) a couple years ago. I love it. I bought it for the ergo grip section in the back and it still fit in my small purse. At the time, it was the only ereader with the audible option and waterproof. Unfortunately, I don't use the audible feature at all since I have my phone. Just a guess, your paperwhite doesn't have a jack b/c it's probably bluetooth only. It's the same with my Oasis.
Yeah, it connects via bluetooth. Didn't realize until I was recording that this was a section I didn't know anything about since I don't audiobook. I didn't care for the back of the Oasis. But I have little girly hands. Maybe that matters, ha ha
Luv my Kindle Oasis I take it everywhere I go.
Once you get hooked on them, I think about bringing them with me before even my smartphone.
I also take my Kindle Oasis everywhere with me. I have a lot of books, and I get more from KindleBuffet (a daily list of free, bargain, and new release eBooks).
Donald Strader kindle buffet? Never heard about that I’ll check it out.
How do you like your Oasis? I kind of want to trade in my Paperwhite for one.
Laura B I really like it. It’s my first kindle. I like the larger size as opposed to the paperwhite. The long battery life is amazing. Being able to turn the pages with the side buttons is nice.
I got my first ever Kindle device yesterday and I've been obsessed with it. ❤️ I enjoyed the review, and looking forward to watching more of your videos! 😊

I just bought a Kindle Paperback during Prime Day a few days ago and saw your Update Video (then came to see this one) because I was concerned about the "Jankiness" of the Paperwhite and I am glad to know that it's normal. I bought it with Ads after another reviewer on Amazon said we can buy it with Ads and pay afterwards to remove them (and not get taxed on the difference). I have a Kindle Fire as well that I got as a gift and I agree, those Ads can drive you crazy but you can pay $15 to remove them from your Fire ($20 for Paperwhite) through your Amazon account under Devices. So far the Ads on the Kindle haven't been noticeable much especially if it's left on an open book page, which I always seem to, but I love knowing now that I have the option of removing them when they do start getting annoying. Thank you for these great reviews!

I still have my Kindle Voyage and it still works as well as the first day. My only problem with it is my phone fits my hand better. So I usually keep it on dark mode and read on it at night so as not to disturb the hubs. Every now and then I pick up the voyage and recharge it. I may use it for a while but go back to the phone. I like the audiobooks I can switch between for in the car. I don’t have to stop reading while I’m driving. I read in line also.
I love my paperwhite. I got the 10th generation as an upgrade for my 30th birthday. I have bad eyesight so this is the main thing for me, I can read, read, read, read all day and I don't hurt my eyes.
I also like the huge selection of books available, I get lots included in my prime subscription, and every month different books added in the monthly deals for usually 99p. Brilliant.
That was the biggest selling point for me. Eye strain is very real.
One of the things I love the most about my Kindle is the amount of free or cheap books available for download. I got the entire Three Musketeer series for less than $1 and there are several books online at Project Gutenberg for free.
I love my papewhite, I had nook didn’t like it. Had tablets , to much eye strain. Great review
My first ereader was a nook and it ruined ereaders for me for about a decade. Eye strain was the main reason I decided to give the Paperwhite a go. It has really helped.
3:09 Hi! *U should put it* at level 6 (or similarly low, *at the lowest level that u find the most comfortable for your eyes when reading) when in an all dark room.* (Give your eyes time to adjust, if needed). *Very pleasant for the eyes, no strain at all.* Just perfect. And u don't ever need it any brighter, because if there r other light sources in the room, u don't need more brightness from the kindle itself anyway.
The Kindle paperwhite works like a regular paper book too (if there is light in the room, u don't need any back- (or 'front') light at all from the device, so I always keep it at level 6, which is quite low, but perfect in the night and otherwise, at other times, like I already said, the light will come from other light sources anyway)
1:40 His kids watching this video: “Daddy, what are my cons”?
Good luck with that convo. 😂
I still have my Kindle Touch from 2012 and it doesn’t have a backlight but I also have a wonderful case for it that has an LED light, and t still works perfectly. No complaints at all. I’ll be holding on to this, and will switch to a new Kindle only when this dies. I think the Kindle, any Kindle, is just awesome.
I’ve had a kindle since the first edition. The simplicity is what makes it just as good of an experience as a book

Getting the new 2021 Paperwhite. In about a week. My first e reader. Great review! Eye strain is a problem for me also. 👍
Hope it helps!
I dropped my kindle in the tub and it was fine. Definately waterproof.
This review rocks! And it’s a booklover review and not some random tech guy review. Thank you for this!
Happy to help
I am so glad you have posted a video about it. I have kobo because amazon site is a headache to access from my country
That would certainly be a deciding factor for me. I flirted with the Kobo before I made my choice. Great device.
I just bought the brand new 10th gen Paperwhite with 32 gigs about a week ago I, and I can’t even express how much better my 52 year old eyes feel! My 30 year old son asked me why I bought this thing instead of just using my 2018 iPad Pro for reading, and I pretty much said the same thing VERBATIM that you said. I love my iPad so much, I’ve 95% given up using my laptop, but when it comes to reading, it’s all about the eyes, the weight, the portability, the screen, the front light, the ability to take a HUGE library with you wherever you go, not to mention NO DISTRACTIONS! Love, love, LOVE my Paperwhite, and don’t even care about the Oasis.
this is a really good follow up review, thank you so much!
Thanks for the update of your experience. I was on the fence but just purchased after watching the review.
I have had a kindle ereader for well over a decade (multiple generations), it was finally time for a bigger screen. I JUST BOUGHT THE KOBO FORMA : ). Picking it up tomorrow, can't wait!
The Forma is pretty sexy. I flirted with it before I decided on this.
I used to have an older Kindle touch and moved to paperwhite when mine bit the dust, but I'm still annoyed by one thing. Early on, Amazon experimented with allowing you to load your own audio to your kindle so you could read and play music on the same device. Given the large battery life, it was great and I used it all the time on long plane trips. They called it experimental. Now they brought audio compatibility back for audible, but not for any other kind of media... no non-audible audiobooks, no podcasts, and no mp3s, which makes me have to drag 2 devices around so I can read on a plane AND drown out all the ambient noise. I wish they'd bring that feature back.
That seems cruel. Check out this awesome thing this device can do! Oh, by the way, we’re stopping that. What?!
I have had four Kindles so far, use an older Paperwhite and a large screen Kindle Fire at the moment. Love them both. Never leave the house without the Paperwhite. I love hardbacks as well, but when traveling (and when not) you can't beat curling up with a kindle. I would kind of like an Oasis, but do not really need one. I am I think a Kindle junkie.
Should add I have dropped all of them countless time from chairs and sofa's and they have never broken.
I'll always love my heavy tomes. But it's a no-brainer when traveling.
When it comes to story books, I think a lot of it comes from a nostalgia / habit factor. When it comes to physical version, Since i got used to reading on a kindle, I still get mentally super hyped about getting a physical copy. They look awesome and makes me way more excited about the story. but when it comes to practicality, my paperbacks end up all bent to shit cuz kindle got me used to have all the words coming at me from a flat angle so i fold them. And the word angles and holding position from hardcover has become awkward . So after a few chapters I end up being like screw it, ill buy the kindle version as well. When it comes to non fiction/encyclopedia where you often go back and forth between pages I still find physical books more practical though.
My wife got me one for Christmas 2018! Not looked back since, easy to lug around with you and can store so many books also the battery life is insane rarely charge mine great stuff :)
I don't even keep the charger by my bed. That's how little I even think of charging it. Even remembering to do so once a month it still has like 65% left. Such a great device.
Just got mine today. Luckily I had setup calibre and side loaded some books when it got to my door just before heading to work. I’m halfway done with my first book. Man I love it. I had a nook stolen ten years ago and never got a replacement and in turn the amount of reading used to do took a huge dive. I used to read so much on flights as a flight mech with the marines. I wish I had gotten a replacement one sooner.
Thanks for a clear direct style review
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, I just ordered one and am so excited to get it! New subscriber too.
Awesome. I hope you enjoy!
I bought my kindle last month and read books like 'The little prince' and 'Voyagers of hell'. It was excellent.
I love, love, love my Kindle paperwhite! I also take it everywhere!
I love my Paperwhite.
One thing I have to agree with is that it isn't the fastest device in the world. Sometimes the touch interface can get a bit finicky as well but overall, its an 9 out of 10 device for me.
Oh, it's sluggish as hell some days.
After playing with the fonts, loading up a load of different fonts and experimenting with recommended downloaded fonts (Literate Book, Baskerville, Neuton, optima etc) I always ended up going back to Bookerly and font size 3 - forgiving enough if my variable focus glasses aren't perfectly lined up/focussed.
I find it annoying that people angrily defend smartphone useage, though it's okay to catch a page or two on the phone it's just not good for extended reading - and can't compare to an ipad for stuff that doesn't work on e-ink.
Right? I always go back to one of the stock font options.
@@mikesbookreviews I know I'm a little late to the game here, but I recommend the Google Font - Merriweather. It's perfect for e-readers, high x-height, a good base font weight (thickness), great overall readability. An improvement over Bookerly, IMO.
I wish I can have an e-reader, but by now, I am content with my tablet. And as I am not a collector, having a device where you cna get wherever you want to go and read, is amazing.
I put it off longer than I should have. Wish I had made the plunge earlier.
Be careful with your eyes. If you are a reader in the long term the tablet will damage your eyes
@@karopi sure, although I try to minimize the light and use it in night mode as well. But I think that, by being able to make the fonts bigger, it has helped too.
That video was how I found your channel. I was looking at reviews for the new kindle paperwhite to decide if it was worth the upgrade.
I am a Kindle addict...I started with the kindle keyboard, and then got the first kindle paperwhite, I got the first kindle Oasis - HATED IT! Now I’m back on the new kindle paperwhite and got my daughter one too.
I love the syncing feature between audible and kindle and the apps on different devices, but I don’t use it that often because I get a lot of my book files from other sources.
I also love Calibre. Most of the MOBI books I get have this [Pdoc] tag that I usually delete to get it to identify as a book rather than a document.
For the Audible you need to use Bluetooth earbuds. I prefer to use my phone for audible rather than the kindle.
Amazon products have great durability. Fire tablets are practically indestructible and so are the kindles.
I agree about the sleeping thing...I fall asleep reading all the time and I used to lose my place because the book would fall. I love that I don’t lose my place when the kindle falls.
Are you able to share content between the devices without a link up? Because if so, that's amazing. I hate having to put everything (in a different format) on my wife's Nook. You're right about the Fire Tablets. Got those super cheap ones with ads when they were toddlers and they beat those things to crap and they still work perfect.
As far as I know, only between kindles...family sharing. Never really tried it though. I just would pull the file from my kindle onto my computer into Calibre, and then put it on my daughter’s kindle. That is one area that iPads have a bit of an advantage over kindles. Easier family sharing of content.
Although I read that some nooks now have the google play store, so if her nook has that you could download the kindle app and sign in with your account and then she could easily download anything that is on your amazon account. (Probably be easier to get her a kindle though...lol)
I love my kindle paperwhite
I feel like it's superimposed onto my hand at this point.
I loved this video!
For me I have a lot of the Apple products but when I read, I do not want all the texting or trying to go and check email etc. It’s just focus on one thing. I adore mine! I actually have two!!!!
You are probably the best RUclipsr I’ve ever watched. You’re the real deal my friend. Some RUclips influencers will tell you all fancy snancy words because they are getting paid for it. I do not care if you get paid or not. Your didn’t forget being human like other RUclipsr. Thank I just bought myself a kindle 5 minutes ago. And I hope Bezos watch this video. Thank you. BTW Are you in from Canada?🙏
Apology I meant *you didn’t forget being human😊**Thank you I just bought kindle 5 minutes ago🙏
I was resistant to going digital so I got the Kindle Fire, instant regret because instead of reading I was using apps and playing games. Switched to the Kindle keyboard and upgraded to the Kindle Paperwhite. I'll probably get the latest Paperwhite on Prime day so I can listen to audiobooks too. They even have Paperwhites for kids now. My kid is still on picture books and relying on me to read so I'll wait several years before getting him one.
I remember that when the Fire first came out and realized it was just Amazon's version of the iPad. Prime Day last year had them for $75, IIRC.
@@mikesbookreviews My cousin was going to get a Paperwhite but got a Fire as a gift for Christmas. Tried hooking the Fire to my computer. Nothing. Our Paperwhite and Oasis readers act like another drive. I don't recall having to "install" them. Am I missing something with the Fire?
I love my Paperwhite, but I have broken two Kindles in the past. A 4th gen and the original Paperwhite. They don't take damage directly to the display very well. Both of my casualties were from tossing it in a bag and letting it get knocked around against something much heavier and harder. Even with a case it *can* happen.
Oh, I guess I was lucky then that mine survived the crash onto the hardwood floor.
How’d you manage to break a Kindle? They’re pretty durable
@@lewis9950 Like I said, tossed in a bag alongside something heavier/more solid like a can. A decent bang against the screen can crack it and once that happens it just doesn't function correctly. It's a bummer but it can happen.
Thanks man, I caught both your videos, subscribed! :-)
No problem. Thanks for watching!
I had a second edition kindle in high school that didn't age very well but about six months ago I got a kindle fire and absolutely love it. I miss paper backs sometimes but it isn't a deal breaker for me
I got the standard kindle due to room shortage and I enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would. I definitely miss paper books sometimes though
It's a great device, but I'll never choose it over a physical book. It's more for the convenience and portability.
Great video man! New subscriber and can't wait to check some of your other videos out. I've had a Kindle ever since they first came out and have loved them. Remember the original clunky one that cost about $400. Wow, how they have changed over the years. I'm currently using a paper white 2013 (gen 2 I believe), but got an unexpected small financial gift and I think I will use it and get the newest paperwhite and I can gift my old one to my wife or one of the grandkids.
Welcome!
I would love to download the 'Dyslexie' font to read books!
it's already on there!
I have had a Kindle since they came out. Can't beat them.
Dresden Files! I just started the series and tore to the third book on my new Kindle in the 3rd day around
Audible file size can be deleted once you finish reading without losing the book from your library, so it’s only an issue in terms of storage while you are listening.
I think the same can be said for the books. You can delete them from your device once finished, but still have them on the Amazon Cloud. That's what makes it advantageous. I just found this out recently. I've had mine for 7-8 years but never really invested the time in actually trying to use the device, until recently.
You are the coolest and best book channel I have ever seen here on RUclips glad I'm not the only bookworm I couldn't imagine not being a bookworm because there are so many wonderful books out there to enjoy. I like to do video reviews here on RUclips and I also enjoy doing written reviews on my Instagram love being able to do reviews two different ways
My Kindle Paperwhite is my baby. I take it with me everywhere. It's always in my hands or in my purse. The only time I buy physical is if there's a Barnes & Noble exclusive content in the book. Other than that I stick to my Kindle. Also it's great that my library loans out ebooks. Some books take a while when there's a waiting list. But, I've got so many other books to read it doesn't matter.
Computers use Cleartype or similar anti-aliasing that makes fonts look softer. I don't use extra fonts on my Kindle, the Amazon font 'Bookerly' is definitely my favorite. Btw, the Kindle uses Bluetooth to connect to your speaker for audiobooks. I also just made the switch from an older Paperwhite to the Oasis and its great. I got a good deal on it too. It's not too wide, it has more screen space, the buttons are nice, it holds in one hand much better because of the thicker back and bezel on one side combined with the buttons so you dont need to move your thumb. But the best feature may be the orange light. I thought the Paperwhite was perfect for reading in bed, but this is even better!
Audible books work in the Paperwhite because it connects to Bluetooth sound devices, not the audio jack found on older Kindles. And this brings up my only complaint about this device. My old Kindle Touch had text-to-speech mode as a standard function. It wasn't great but it mostly worked well enough. The Paperwhite also has a TTS function, and it works MUCH better.
HOWEVER!!! The Paperwhite's TTS is NOT a regular book-reading function like the older Kindles had. Instead it is the VoiceView Screen Reader on the Accessibility menu. It is supposed to be able to read _everything_ on the screen to sight-impaired people. I don't know how well it works for them, but as a book reader it really REALLY sucks. It is clumsy and convoluted to start up, is hard to control, isn't simple to restart if anything stops the reading, and is very inflexible. (I still haven't found a way to make it go back a page, which was pretty simple on the old Kindle Touch.) Yes, I know that there are "screen gestures" that are supposed to handle all those functions. But I can't remember them, and when I have an instruction set to look at, the gestures usually don't work as expected. I can't imagine that it works well for blind people either.
I somehow was lucky enough to find an unused paperwhite on CL for $20. Best find ever. Still worth retail price
You are very funny. I appreciate your sense of humor. Thank you for your review.
Would recommend reading manga on it. It works because manga supposed to be black and white.
Interesting. I've never really read manga but I do a lot of comics. That's pretty much the only reason I have an iPad now.
Yep, only 2 colors, ink and not ink.
@@mikesbookreviews there are so many great mangas out there, so try one.
Vagabond, berserk, vinland saga, monster, akira are some of my favs.
i highly recomend Berserk
I bought a Nook during the Sandy Superstorm when I lost power for 7 days and all I could do was read. When I almost dropped Stephen King’s 500-pound book, Under the Dome, on my head, 🤣🤣I knew it was time for an E-Reader. Nook used to be great. Now it is crap! The new one is cheaply made (I am on my third one in just a few years)🙄 and I am unhappy. I think I will try a Paperwhite next. Thank you for this!💕
E-reader is a true gamechanger, although for my case it's not specifically on Kindle. I'm a university student living in a dorm so I don't have much room to put my books but by using Paperwhite and Kindle app I don't have to worry about running out of space anytime soon, rn i have dozens of books on my account it's crazy. One thing that's more on the controversial side tho, I'm falling in love with the Kindle so much that I'm not comfortable reading on a physical book, crazy right? It's just not right to hold a book with one hand while sleeping on your bed, unlike a Kindle. Now I'm buying physical books just for my favorite ones that have significance for me.
Using this thing for school has helped me a ton. Using digital books for school, I don't want to read them from my PC screen or my iPad, so I've been doing that for 2 semesters now. So convenient.
I love my ereader too-I use Nook
My wife still swears by her nook e-ink.
i have the basic 10th gen kindle with front light, first kindle. to answer the question about the audio functions mine had bluetooth built in i would expect the paper white to have it as well. i still use my lenovo tablet sometimes for my kindle books
Others have mentioned the bluetooth thing. I totally dated myself by mentioning the lack of a headphone jack ha ha
I looked into getting a kindle but I have an iPad mini and was like well ill just use that since I don't use it much for anything else since I use my phone for everything. Then your videos popped up and it's making me reconsider the kindle but I think I'll wait til prime day. Appreciate the videos thank you for sharing!
I just bought the Onyx Boox Note2, I'm new to ebooks and that seems to be a great option. 10.3" screen and it runs android 9 so you can install apps if you want and surf the web with e-ink. Color e-ink is coming later this year.
I just order a kindle paper white. Any tips?? I can’t wait.
The removing from cloud option is really the only thing I wish the Kindle had, otherwise I love everything. Also, you mentioned buying a second one in case you break yours and honestly I don't think it is necessary. I've had mine for four years now, I let it drop more times than I can count and it's still perfect. As long as you keep it in the case you should be fine. =)
Yeah this sounds about right. I just have a problem with the “well, it was such a good deal...” ha ha. I might do it just to make my wife finally upgrade her old nook.
Paula wrong mines has sleep issues I touch it any where and it goes to sleep I even turned off sleep and it still does it. Any touch on sides so I went back to my 2014 nook white e reader
I just bought the oasis after YEARS of refusing to change....but once I saw the prices + the convenience of it I changed my mind.
I really like my paperwhite especially since I had to downsize my living circumstances and had to get rid of tons of books because it wasn’t his room for them which was very sad because I had quite the collection. Anyway what I don’t like about the paperweight is that I am left-handed and I have to reach across the screen to turn to page. The Kindle oasis has the buttons so you can use it left-handed. However it is ridiculously expensive for my budget. So I stick to the Kindle paperwhite but I do love the feel of a real book!
I've found myself reading a lot during the pandemic. I travel a lot for work so bringing paperback books with me is too much. So I've been looking into getting a kindle. I hear the prices are best around the holidays.
One thing that helps me to avoid eye strain when reading that you may not have tried: read on iPad or the Kindle Paperwhite with yellow tinted sunglasses.
Heh. Quite a plan.
Whenever I use my 4th Gen and then go back to my Basic 10th Gen, I miss the page turning buttons for a while, as the mini swipe I do to turn can be a little glitchy, but that's a minor complaint.
I''m chuffed that I bought it and am reading for at least 2 hours a day, sometimes more.
The overwhelming majority of books I read are on Kindle! 😉📚
