Reed's voice is another instrument in his songs. He's not a pop vocalist singing made for top 40 pop songs which people are condition to think makes for a good song. That's entertainment. Reed on the other hand is making art.
His, like Leonard Cohen, could digress great emotion. Lou can still make you burst into happiness and tears, sometimes in the same song. Like Bob Dylan he was a true poet of incredible powers.
My older brother was in the army in Frankfort Germany in the 70s heard Lou was going to be performing a uso show at Wiesbaden and him and a friend drove there to see him. I was lucky enough that I got to chat to him about music for 15 or 20 minutes outside of a record store in Kansas city. No one recognized him bur myself and the owner of the store. I was front row at his show that night. My ears rang for 2 days after.
Lucky man, Al. I was standing front stage for his encore in the Ecstasy Tour at the Keswick Theater and got the "Lou Reed Stare." Ha-ha! The last song he did was Perfect Day. With an up-swing on the last strum of his guitar he let go of the pick and it went flying. I kept my eye on it and when he & the band left the stage, I yelled to a roadie, "Hey, grab that for me.", so guess what, I got Lou Reed's guitar pick that he played Perfect Day with. It's something I really cherish. Good times!
Like many things associated with Lou Reed, it may or may not be true, but this song was suppsedly written about a former manager of his that swindled him out of a considerable amount of money.
The cover art is awesome, the 3 things i ve notice 1-behind lou it s like the sun in total darkness 2-look with attention there s a reflection of a man in the shades 3-the bright glance in the shades being that lou is not in a place with lights more like he is alone Just an interpretation...

People who complain about musicians who "talk sing" clearly have never heard the brilliance of Lou Reed! This man's voice is iconic!

@@jameswarhol442 Well said. I would argue that Bob Dylan also fits into the “art” category as you defined it.

Love How King Missle kind of sings similarly to him

È passato tanto tempo
dall’ultima volta che ti ho parlato
era il momento giusto?
i tuoi problemi attuali
e sai che peggioreranno
spero tu sappia quanto me li sia goduti
Ce ne stavamo seduti l’altra sera, io e i ragazzi
alla ricerca della parola giusta
che meglio si adattasse e descrivesse
te e la gente come te
mai sfiorati da un principio morale
battezzati in nessun principio
Sei solo spazzatura
sei solo spazzatura
la parola giusta per te è spazzatura
è la sola parola che -
- Fa male, sei proprio spazzatura
questo è il tuo valore
spazzatura di basso conto
sai come ti chiamano
schifosa, schifosa, schifosa, schifosa
spazzatura d’alto borgo
sei solo schifosa, schifosa, schifosa, schifosa
spazzatura d’alto borgo
vali quanto un nulla
una spazzatura d’alta classe

All good song writers are smack heads
Actually Lou was a meth head more than anything else. He shot speed for a lot of his life not heroin.
Worst advice I ever heard.

I'd like to dedicate the song "Sex With Your Parents"to people like you, just so you know how Lou would feel about that comment of yours
