This really is the rarest and best-looking jacket in the game! However, I'm sorry to say this, but I've made a video on how I got that jacket, and all my cores were full and golden, so it doesn't appear as though cores have anything to do with this request being available or not. I've never been able to get the request while Kieran was tied to the tree behind Pearson's wagon, but I've seen videos in which players got the request when Kieran was still captive. The only thing that seems to be common to every single method I've seen is that it happens before noon on sunny days. What actually triggers this companion's request is truly one of the greatest mysteries in this game!
But you know what I tried with full cores more than 20 times & failed to trigger the request. Then I drained my cores & I was able to trigger the request 3 times. It works 100% Try it 😁

I tried this a few times, draining my cores, saving and reloading if pearson finished the stew, and got it on my 3rd attempt. Seems like the empty cores really help with the triggering of this task! Thanks 7

Pants - Everyday (black). Boots - Wingtip Gaiters. Spoiler... If you dress John in this outfit he looks so smart that you forget it's him, and it feels like you're playing as Arthur again.
I think a better combo is Gray rambler coat White French dress shirt Blue ascot tie Blue opulent vest Black fancy pants (gambler outfit in rhodes comes with them) Dark Sportsman's boots with white laces, icon is slightly green (under pants, use the 'modify' button in the wardrobe)
I mean if you spend long enough time on the camp, it eventually plays out like usual, it's around 10 am and before Pearson prepares the stew. It triggers after taking Kieran to six point cabin and if you don't get the quest by then, just sleep it off and wait for tomorrow. I got this jacket in my 2 out 3 playthroughs (on my first playthrough I don't even know this jacket exist and was rarely at the camp)

If you want a cool outfit you can get from shop bought stuff, try this combo (it's the closest I've got to the 'boat gambling mission' outfit) - it looks great even on John, even makes you forget and think you're playing as Arthur. It's not about the cores! It's about being UNDERWEIGHT; i.e., "peaky"! You need a few things; save the game at about 10 AM, be underweight, have Pearson making the stew behind that table and drinking a beer, and have him say the right thing. He doesn't always have the "peaky" conversation with Arthur. Sometimes he goes on a rant about when he was in the Navy or he'll just say hello back. You don't need the cores red or to jump off cliffs. Just be underweight. At the start of the game it takes a little time to be underweight.
I have the perfect way to do this. In the morning, around 10-11 am (pearson needs to be preparing the stew still) fall down the cliffs around the camp. Do this until your health core is red. Then approach pearson when he is leaning against the table with a beer and you can start the request. Works every time!
has absolutely nothing to do with health cores and everything to do with the fact that you didn't unlock something through a mission. you have to do this before gaining any vices. no gambling, no drinking with lenny, no hunting with charles. you can only get it in the very beginning of horseshoe overlook, although it's supposed to be able to be gotten in colter although it is reported that it may be bugged in that area due to it being an early chapter. much like dutches pipe request being triggered after he talks to hosea in colter about how cold and dangerous it is, you have to wait for him to walk around outside with a cigar before talking to him.
I've only had this happen once, and I found the best way to trigger it is after the mission with Lenny, "A quiet time." Escape the law at the end of the mission, and head to camp right after Arthur wakes up, be sure to NOT eat anything before doing so, and you'll have at least a better chance of being able to trigger it. I've had times where I did that, and it didn't trigger, so I cannot promise it'll always work, but from what I have experienced, the odds are a bit better. That said, I cannot say that it is my favorite scout jacket, in fact the aqua blue jacket you can buy at the general store is just as good. Its basically the same jacket,, the only difference between the aqua blue scout jacket, and the denim scout jacket you can get from Pearson, is that the former is brand new looking and has a white collar, and the denim is worn looking, that and the collar is orange.
I have literally played this game 4 times all the way through. And I have never even known that Pearson had a thing where you have to get him something I never even knew that
The cores mean nothing. You just have to trigger the request before you rescue Sean and fulfil it before end of Chapter 4. Just keep loading a save around 10 AM at camp, then keep walking around until the pot is on the fire (then you'll have to reload the save).
I tried this for literally 2 years. I finally decided to replay the game for the 7th time recently and I FINALLY got the dialogue and I wasn’t even trying for it. Needless to say I was hyped to kill that rabbit.
You forgot 2 things. You have to play poker and have Pearson ask for the navy compass, or the jacket will not trigger. Also, it can't be a perfect rabbit bc it'll go towards crafting.

You need to: have low cores (if youre underweight is better) it needs to be between 9:00 to 11:00, and pearson has to be drinking behind the darker table, if it doesnt work sleep and drain your cores, its just a matter of reapeating

Can confirm it's got something to do with your cores. Though, I believe t's the STAMINA core not the health core. Method that worked for me was saving the game at 10 AM, jumping off a cliff at horseshoe overlook, and draining stamina because of the exertion. Emptied it by smoking. Then I ran back and I saw I could only "greet" Pearson, which triggered the request. I don't think it works if you actually die and respawn, even if a core is melted.

you don't, you just have to NOT complete certain missions to unlock vices. if you do the mission to rescue reverend, you won't be able to do it. being that that mission is how you unlock gambling, it's pretty obvious why people fail at getting the request. they're impatient.

I'm on my 5th playthru now but likely to start ove as I've discovered thing needing to be done in ch[t2 and usually stop in 4 before Guarma and the last chapter of the game. I like John but, as with the frst gme there s a point to stop and just mess around without progressing into Johns/Jacks storyline.

idk why people think this has to do with health cores when it's literally just scripted to only be able to complete before a certain mission is completed. once you do the mission you will no longer get the request. it's also supposed to only be able to be done in chapter 1-2, which is why it's such a hard mission to trigger. people don't realize that its got to do with how the camps set up, and that unlocking your vices through missions will literally keep you from doing this request. you're getting a winter coat for colter, but you're at horseshoe overlook. as for why people have done it with keiran tied up and not tied up, that's because his mission has no affect on the progress of vices.
It is possible to trigger the request with full cores but it is very hard. I spent hours to trigger the request with full cores. I tried reloading the save multiple times but failed. Then I tried with low cores. if you do this with your cores drained then it will trigger the request instantly. Try it.
Here’s a video idea: Rescue a kidnapped lady, hogtie the guy, take her off the horse but don’t untie her until you put him on the back of the horse then she will ride off with him on the back. 😂

I'm not gonna discredit this guy cause whatever works most consistently for him. But I didn't have to do a lot of that. For one thing u don't need your cores low. All I did was start a new game and as soon as I got to free roam, I made a save exactly at 10 am, jumped off the cliff on far side of camp, wen loaded back walked into camp and if Pearson is by the pot drinking, is wen he'll give u mission
That jacket is pretty lame tbh.. imo.. but pretty cool encounter nonetheless.. This game is literally perfect in every way possible. A gift from god. I’m on my fourth play through now and it’s still just as enjoyable as my first time playing it.. Thank you Rockstar for actually taking the time to make this game the absolute masterpiece that it is.. Bravo!

If it didn't work right off the bat reload the game at that save again, rinse and repeat.
Also u have to b in your tent wen u make that save

That jacket is pretty lame tbh.. imo.. but pretty cool encounter nonetheless.. This game is literally perfect in every way possible. A gift from god. I’m on my fourth play through now and it’s still just as enjoyable as my first time playing it..
