Both the Soviet's and the Americans soldiers fought extremely well and very hard. The problem is that the Afghans never ever give up. It's near impossible to fight against such an an insurgency.

Well our idology is fight and come back alive, their idology is to fight and die. They don´t care about them o their families. You can not win against that kind of mind. Like in Vietnam, Afganistan is the same situation, thas why you can win all de battles and at the end lose the war.

Colonel Trautman: You expect sympathy? You started this damn war, now you'll have to deal with it.
Zaysen: And we will. It is just a matter of time before we achieve a complete victory.
Trautman: Yeah, well, there won't be a victory. Every day, your war machines lose ground to a bunch of poorly-armed, poorly-equipped freedom fighters. The fact is that you underestimated your competition. If you'd studied your history, you'd know that these people have never given up to anyone. They'd rather die than be slaves to an invading army. You can't defeat a people like that. We tried; we already had our Vietnam! Now you're gonna have yours.

Why in these Russian movies why in the thick of a gunfight, motor, artillery why do they get so worked up they must remove there helmets one of the most important pieces of armor?
Pluss no matter how much security they have set the enemy is upon them instantly.
But I still think there Russian war are way above Hollywood movies.
Every now and then America gets a platoon or private Ryan.
Russia puts passing by bullet and bullet impact sounds. America rarely dose that.
