  • As a busy family of five on Long Island, the Kelly's work hard to provide love and support to their three children, including a set of twins, one of which has Down syndrome. A home renovation that prioritizes the organizational needs of both children and parents is necessary, but the Kelly family can’t do it on their own, and that's where George to the Rescue came in.

Children come in all shapes, sizes and colors. If we all come together, all children can climb that mountain no matter how high.

That little boy is so precious. Why do people always think they did something wrong when they find out they have a Down Syndrome baby? They are gifts just like the other children. Great redesign and addition, George and team!

They have made so many insights into down syndrome and start doing therapy very young so these children benefit very early from the extra help which I feel as a teacher makes him just as human and special as any other child. Often they learn to read ride bikes and do many other activities with their peers. They have even controlled the weight issues that were in the past.

The biggest blessing for Ryan is Sean. Having an example of what he should be doing physically is of immense value as babies copy their siblings.

The best part of this story was the gift basket for the big sister at the end. Sometimes lost in these challenges of a disabled child is the impact on the siblings. Finding a balance is no small task so was glad to see someone acknowledge the sister. Second best part was seeing the scaling down of the chaos into manageable proportions. Again no small task. Making better use of less is so much more effective than poor use of too much stuff no matter how well intended. Big cheers to this family and to Brittany and George for supporting them.

Those boys are the same age as my nephew he was born in July 2020 also. He is hitting a lot of growth milestones faster than others but he is super shy and today he was scared of me because he hadn't seen me in a long time, those boys being so happy to play and just being happy in general made today a lot happier for me. I can tell you how much of a rockstar that mom is because even though I don't personally know any families with children that have down syndrome but as a preschool photographer I see children dealing with autism, hearing loss (complete or not), down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida so I get to see how these kids interact with each other and kids who don't have the same circumstances and they seem to not notice a difference because they are still playing together. I wish the Kelly's all the best and I hope you guys had a Happy Easter and enjoy playing in the new room.

Multiple births can lead to other disabilities in kids including cerebral palsy. Down Syndrome should really be called Up Syndrome because these kids are really happy and they are such outgoing and intelligent people at times.
Never underestimate a kid who has a disability, their abilities might just surprise you. How do I know this? I was born with spastic hemiplegia cerebral palsy on my left side. I also have ADHD and possibly on the autism spectrum.
