  • Quick bit of positive news: Sony did rectify the situation regarding the internal clock/cmos battery bricking both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with a firmware update that prevents that from happening, ensuring that both consoles will be preserved for future generations. This is proof if any was necessary that vocal protest of anticustomer practices works and that we should absolutely keep pressuring sony to remove its artificially imposed online requirements from Gran Turismo 7!
How are people actually defending Sony for forcing internet requirements into GT7? If you have any theories as to why PlayStation fanboys and Sony ponies are taking the time out of the their day to argue in defense of online requirements that are only going to kill the game in the end, please let us know in the comments!

Any defense of a reqired online connection for most of the game, and Jim Ryan's mindset regarding old games really puzzled me.
Having talked to some of the defenders, it felt like they don't even care if anyone couldn't play their favorite games anymore.

Jim Ryan definitely doesn't care about videogames, at least not any more than he needs to in order to extract money from them! As for the "hardcore playstation gamers", I don't think they even know what they think and are more than happy to let Sony do all the thinking for them!

As a fan of the series, it is quite sad to see these kind of things happening to games now. It's also very annoying to deal with those requirements if your connection is fluctuating every second. Gran turismo is not gran turismo without its career mode and other features. When they pull the plug on the servers it will disappear into oblivion. What if gt7 was a good game? What would be the point of playing it when you know you can't play it anymore? Gt sport was my least favorite and it made me dislike even more with the online saving crap. Imagine doing a 24hr endurance and your internet goes off mid race. Just make the save data for internal storage! It's that simple.

    • @dankswank9088
      @dankswank9088  2 года назад

Exactly! They could have easily made two separate saves (one offline on local storage for the career mode, one online on cloud storage for the multiplayer mode), so choosing to make everything dependent upon the internet is at best poor design and at worst (and more likely considering Jim Ryan's power at the company) a deliberate choice of built-in obsolescence meant to pressure players to buy the game's eventual sequel.

In 2047, I can't play my 25 year old Gran Turismo 7 on the PS5.
If you're born too late to be a part of an older generation, and want to play old games, but not too old, then that's too bad. "Come back in -25 years and you can play the game!" - Polyphony Digital, 2047

This is modern gaming post-2019 in a nutshell. It's a damn shame that Sony is doing this and especially more so when fans are unironically defending bad business pratices. To be honest, I'm glad I've started playing older pre-2015 games as of late since too many games to count since 2020 have been nearly over glorifed broken live services.

A lot of games since even the beginning of the prior gen were hamstrung by these practices, but that’s not to say there aren’t exceptions. Check out GOG to find a lot of games that aren’t hamstrung by drm. Also, for games that are no longer being made, there’s no harm in finding cracked versions of games with drm in them!

Its honestly a disgusting way of thinking about things. People like that are the reason we are going to see Online only DRM games be pushed even more aggressively going forward. 😒
The whole "who dont have internet these days?" excuse dont work here. Its about preservation and being able to play these games whenever u want to. Regardless of online or off. I am so f*cking sick of this bullsh*t!!!

Excellent video once again, Dank Swank. I voiced my concern in your last video. I voiced my concern on GTPlanet and even signed some petition on changedotorg knowing it wouldn't do anything. Hell I even complained before GT Sport released and I complained when NFS 2015 came out with it too. It's just about the most annoying thing to implement in a game for me, more so than MTX. And unlike Sony/PD, at least EA/Ghost Games made sure their next game (Payback) wouldn't require an always online connection; they even announced it right before they were about to officially announce the next game knowing full well of the backlash of NFS 2015.
These days I'm no longer a fan of Sony like I once was and I think it's mostly because of the current leadership. Censored Japanese games, price hike, and mixed messaging on what will appear on PC. I'm still a fan of their games and GT has always been at the top of all of Sony's franchises for me, which is why it hurts more with this DRM nonsense.

    1. That fiasco with Miles Morales where they said this is a PS5 exclusive then they backtracked and said no it will be released on PS4 aswell I believe Jim Ryan said we believe in generations making games on PS4 would hold back the PS5 versions. To be fair he may have a point but given how much of a pain in the ass the PS5 is to get your better off putting them on PS4 aswell so that way Sony can have a larger player base and everyone will be able to play your games
    2. Spider-Man PS5 remaster you can't transfer your PS4 saves it took Insomniac to correct them saying yes you can transfer your saves
    3. Horizon Forbidden West free upgrade programme we did get what we wanted in the end but it does make me wonder if we didn't speak up we would have got screwed out of it

@@dankswank9088 Personally I have no problem with Miles Morales being available to PS4 owners. I also don't believe it's massively holding back the PS5. PS5 owners still get an enhanced version of the game. I think that Sony ( and every other electronics manufacturer ) were well aware of the chip shortages in advance. Cross gen had to be done because otherwise they wouldn't be able to make money from the low next gen sales. The attempted £70 per game charge also points to this. Essentially by charging that much they are taking the equivalent of 1.5 sales for every copy of a game sold. Got to hit those sales targets some how

It's great to be able to obtain and afford the latest consoles but why should others who are not as fortunate be left behind? Just so people can justify their purchases? They will get the best version ( outside of if the game is either an arcade port or has a PC version available ). Chances are no matter what certain developers say the game also started life on previous gen hardware ( wouldn't be surprised if this were the case with GT 7. I know they have said the opposite but still. Same with Ratchet and Clank. I think it was Travellers Tales who went on record to say it was a good game but nothing technically that couldn't be done on PS4 outside of quicker loading ). There isn't going to be a quantum leap between previous and current gen but I'm sure we will see exclusives that everyone is happy with eventually
