Hi Cliff, wondered how your BOT would be towed without a release mechanism and the answer was the tug released instead. Always great to see an aerial view of the North Devon countryside. You even hit the target 👍
Thanks Carl, yes, I didn't realise that tug release was an option, the bungee wasn't available as it turned out anyway. Targets are a lot easier to hit with brakes, I deployed full brakes but half would have been better 😁
Fantastic video Cliff. So pleased that you visited and had a great day. The weather that particular day was absolutely brilliant. The guys from DSSC always make our aerotow days a real pleasure. Hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Rob Okehampton MFC
Really interesting video, great to see the towing process, particularly good to see the rope in the air. And what can I say a beautiful part of the world, I love it around there, somewhere I have spent some time in the past working and on holiday, but not an angle I have seen! Lovely, thanks for sharing
Hi Cliff! Another great vídeo! Nice footage of Dever from top, very good indeed! In a note side "bird of time" is a little bit old but as far as I know it has one of the best gliding ratio around! And for new guys to the hobby it is easier because it doesn't have ailerons to control! Very nice plane that of yours! 👍🏻
I was a guest for the day at their club, it's about 60 miles from me so I've not made the journey before. Within minutes of arriving they felt like mates for sure 🙂 The towing sure gets you up there quickly... I was worried for the wing joiner 😁
Hi Cliff, another cracking video thank you. Listening to the audio from the onboard camera it sounded as though your airspeed was oscillating like a stall - dive - stall - dive: did you notice this from your pilot’s perspective? If so do you think it was a CG issue or linked with the draggy tow line? (love the pan and tilt by the way - you just need a small video transmitter and corresponding receiver and screen at ground level now! Doesn’t have to be goggles but at least you’d see what the camera sees while it’s up there). I have several models intended to be tugs and a couple of gliders intended to be towed aloft but have only ever managed it once so far with a Panic biplane and my Dad in the sticks of a 100” Flair Albatross (like you’re BOT - no ailerons so a bit wavy on the tow!). I did have a towline release fitted to the glider and jury rigged the tow line on the Panic from the upper wing mount dowel with a wing hold-down rubber band. Great fun but not repeated so far alas.
Hi Nick, I think the main problem was me holding onto the elevator, I'll try to keep my finger clear in future 🙂 I do like the idea of an airborne tx to a phone, my wife could enjoy the view as I flew 🤔
Hi Ruckus, it wasn't my last, but it was my first, my last came when I landed in a big tree on approach with my Ka8, linked at the end of the video, cheers 👍
Thanks for commenting Paul, that flight was 30 seconds up and 10 minutes down but I was conscious the lads were waiting for the tow line which I had attached to my plane for the launch, it was a thermic day though so could have double the time easily🙂
Nice one Cliff, I would have been 1st comment @11 mins after you published, but I was having a pint out and my phone said 'restricted mode' and wouldn't let me comment? And I looked on the settings on my app and restricted mode was off. Weird? Anyhow, to get on with it, that looked like fun. I also was wondering how you'd release! Flying with a tow line still attached to the nose must have affected flight a bit through drag? Maybe not. You said it would be your last? And what lessons did you learn? (PS we know what those views are like first hand don't we 😉 )
Hard luck Bob, the prize went to Paul on first comment, the prize being first to watch 😁 It was great fun actually and a friendly bunch to boot. I wasn't particularly aware of any drag although there must have been some? I was aware of not skimming over the hedgeline though on approach ...now that would have been worth videoing. I said it may be my last if the wings had folded thankfully they held up so definately not my last. The views were great but it's not the same as the wind in your face 🙂
@Cliff Harvey RC Planes ah, I see. I read that as 'my last' because you didn't enjoy it! And I was the first to watch at 11 mins after you posted it! 😋 Maybe I should try towing one of these behind my paramotor, though significant prop wake!

That flamingo is stunning. And the pan and tilt makes a real difference.
Thanks Oliver, it's all good fun 🙂
Great flight and onboard video Cliff! Beautiful countryside. Fun with the boys, that's what it's all about!
Thanks Ricky, definitely fun is the name of the game 🙂

Thanks Rob, it was a great day for sure. I forgot to mention to you by the way DSSC stands for Devon 'Slope' Soaring Club 😉

Yes that view is usually the privilege of full size glider pilots, lovely scenery as well 🙂
Just great Cliff👍really beautiful countryside . I love that not one field is square 😊
That's what comes of centuries of carving farms up I suppose, very pretty 🙂 Thanks for commenting CK
Nice flight, beautiful flying field, lovely countryside.
Thank you Irwin.

👍🏻
Thanks Carlos, I bought her a month or two ago, very happy with the way she soars 🙂
Looked like great fun Cliff flying with your mates, would like to try towing, looks like fun, Jeff in LA USA

Very nice. Took me a while to work out that the tow plane dropped the line not you!! Well done.
It was a means to an end but works well 🙂
i will trying this soon...
Go for it Pixie 👍🏼

Why your last that was amazing 👏

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes oh ok I will check that out iam trying to set up a tow system from my fms pa18 super cub to my valantex asw28
Brilliant to see her back in the air where she belongs.
Thought you would appreciate seeing the video Jon, she's a lovely 'bird' for sure 👍
Wonderful!
Thanks Mike 🙂
Great vid, how much airtime did you get on one tow?

Incidentally, that first aerotow of yours went a lot better than the maiden of my twin boom Lidl! 😱 Video to follow.
Blissfull 👍😄
Thanks Ian, it was great trying something new as well, keeps you invigorated 👍
