@John Doe yup. The sentinels. They are the ones Doomguy met in hell after Doom 64. They trained him up and gave him extreme power. They unfortunately fell under the hell priests. There was a civil war and the civilization fell
@@Tortilla_Pizzeria_Pixels The Sentinels didn't enhance Doom Guy's power to the god like levels we know, the Seraphim did, betraying the Maykrs in doing so.
@@Tortilla_Pizzeria_Pixels No bother, the Sentinels have powers of their own, granted by the Wraiths from the worlds spear, but Doom guy was never granted these. Indeed, much like Argent D'Nur itself. It was once a proud and mighty civilization, forged in righteous battle and unyielding tradition, with hundreds of other worlds flourishing under its guidance and protection. Now, it is but a shadow of its former glory. The Night Sentinels, once an order of holy warriors that might've broken the power of Hell forever-if not for the betrayal-are scattered remnants, loyal either to the spirit of King Novik or the Khan Makyr. The great city of Exultia and the capital of Taras Nabad are little more than ruins now, populated only by ghosts and stray demons. The holy arena of Sentinel Prime, once a place for prisoners to reclaim their honor and for prospective Sentinels to earn their spurs, now only serves to provide the Hell Priests with blood sport for their twisted and perverse entertainment. The Wraiths-the Firstborn emerged from the womb of the world to guide and embolden the Argenta people-are gone, killed in mercy by the Great Slayer to deny Hell their power and end their eons of torment. The myriad worlds under the stewardship of the Night Sentinels have either been abandoned or consumed by Hell. No wonder the Slayer hates the demons and the Makyrs so much, after what they've done to his adopted homeworld and people. As a lover of Sign of Evil, this sounds way closer to Aubrey Hodges' Breath of Horror from Playstation Doom in my opinion... Just a drum beat instead of baby cries, hell even some of the moan like chants are in the same rhythm of the Demon groans in that track.
That's the best part is that it takes huge influence on Sign of evil, Mick gordan did an incredible job in incorporating the original doom soundtracks, and making them fit with the modern Doom franchise, likely do that old school Doom gamers can get a huge sense of nostalgia.
So haunting and mysterious it reminds of a cloudy day or a foggy or misty morning or better yet a snowy day the more I listen to it, it gets kind of sad
I envision quite the opposite (specifically from 12:10 - 12:20. So fucking beautiful). This track reminds me rather of something fiery, of a suffering crowd within the cages of Nekravol DOOMed into Eternal torment, of hell itself. Not sadness, but the manifestation of hopelessness.
I see this as representing the horror the supporters of the Makyrs felt, as they realized, far too late, they were little more than a means to an end for their supposed Gods, ashamed of how they had forsaken all they, once proud and mighty warriors, stood for. And that makes their chants to the slayer during the gladiator fight all the more epic. They aren't just telling you to kill the demons, they're begging you to forgive them, to avenge them, to ensure earth does not fall as low as them.
Man, this thing hits hard, like something you have embraced and have embraced you...changed and betrayed you and itself. Don't forget the Sign of Evil vibes too. Mick is definitely a musical genius.
