I'll never join Threads as I hate Facebook. But I just noticed that they don't even have a proper website. i.e. you have to go on an app via your phone that you downloaded. I think that is probably a big barrier as you have to download it and have it on your phone vs just going to the website on a computer.
Tbh adoption rates on new social media sites are going to be a hard sell. I think after Myspace, people don't want to move somewhere else. It reminds me of all of RUclipsrs competitors and nobody moved over to any of those. Facebook doesn't have the pull it had. Especially after Facebook screwed over Oculus with all that Meta bullcrap.

My software dev husband couldn't speak highly enough of Streams, based solely on the backend corporate features (IE data mining of customers for corporate partnerships). Not for the CEO or the new X.0 "redesign" of a perfectly good UI.

No direct messages is confusing because don’t they have multiple messaging features or apps. It doesn’t seem like it would take that long to add it to treads.
The only way people change social media platform if more 50% of the people you interact also moved to that platform. What happened gradually people will start leaving because the people you interact also has other people they interact that wasn't in threads and that string of people has other friends that are not there and just went back to where everyone was in the first place.
