    Threads. Remember MySpace? Threads has been called out as being AGGRESSIVELY anti-conservative. So there goes a lot of their possible user base. Add to that the HUGE number of liberals who post on X targeting consevatives, in (accidentally hilariously) attempts to piss the right off. On threads there is no one to taunt.

    People seem to be leaving social media at all rather than just switching apps.
    After years of building networks which finally got taken over by adverts, they probably are tired of doing the same thing over again, and just realize it isn't worth it.

    from what I recall, Threads basiclly opened at some peak twitter drama time which pulled a lot of people in over to look, in part to at the very least reserve their name or to jump over away from twitter, but the thing was missing so many basic features; Know a few people who generally said that they couldn't even manage to make their wall useful as the tuning features where generally useless

    I'll never join Threads as I hate Facebook. But I just noticed that they don't even have a proper website. i.e. you have to go on an app via your phone that you downloaded. I think that is probably a big barrier as you have to download it and have it on your phone vs just going to the website on a computer.

    Tbh adoption rates on new social media sites are going to be a hard sell. I think after Myspace, people don't want to move somewhere else. It reminds me of all of RUclipsrs competitors and nobody moved over to any of those. Facebook doesn't have the pull it had. Especially after Facebook screwed over Oculus with all that Meta bullcrap.

    I've been losing interest in FB proper (didn't have any interest in Threads). I barely post anymore, my friends and family hardly seem to post anymore, and I'm sick of them pushing political/social engineering ads/pages at me. It barely feels worth my time anymore. If it gets any lamer, I'll likely shut down my account entirely.

    I noticed that the Threads logo looks a little like the swirl design that was on top of the UFO that was being housed in an abandoned missle silo in that one old episode of The X-Files.
    The "black oil" lifeform was using Krycek to get it back to its ship then at the end it was oozing out of his eyes, nostrils and mouth and pouring itself onto the design and seeping into it like it was a drain of some kind.

    My software dev husband couldn't speak highly enough of Streams, based solely on the backend corporate features (IE data mining of customers for corporate partnerships).     I have always believed Facebook's success was more about the right basic idea in the right time (serendipity) rather than extreme genius on Zuck and Co.'s part. They just rode that initial wave but don't have a special finger on the public pulse or know what people want. At the end of the day it's like RUclips, people are there for the individual/small creators and their content that appeals directly to their shared interests. Not for the CEO or the new X.0 "redesign" of a perfectly good UI.

    The only way people change social media platform if more 50% of the people you interact also moved to that platform. What happened gradually people will start leaving because the people you interact also has other people they interact that wasn't in threads and that string of people has other friends that are not there and just went back to where everyone was in the first place.
